I have very thin fine hair and fortunately I did not lose any. I started using biotin shampoo and taking supplements a month before I had surgery. I don't know if that is why I didn't or if I just got lucky. I think there are several factors that go into the skin issue age, heredity and how and where you are carrying the weight. While I am not all that thrilled with my wrinkly arms and saggy boobs but I'll take them over the extra weight.

After the honeymoon period, could you live without sleeve
lunarose replied to originalrocklobster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I will be six years out this Aug. I still feel the restriction just last month we were on a cruise and I ate too much too fast and had to leave the table and walk around the boat until I felt better (30 min). It definitely is still helpful because while I still have to watch what I eat without it would be a lot harder to stay on track. I would not want my pre sleeve stomach for anything. -
I remember moving from the gurney to the operating table and the doctor asking me to count backwards next thing I remember is being in recovery.

The black and white looks fantastic on you

I am so sorry you are going through this he is totally unreasonable. Once you recover from surgery you may need to reevaluate things maybe look into counseling. As a preacher he should be taking his vows "in sickness and health" more seriously.

Mine was low too, I self paid because my insurance won't cover it. I even had one of the doctors at Kaiser who did WLS actually criticize me for doing it and told me I'd regret it. Five and a half years later I am still waiting on the regret.

Surgery Monday. I'm about to back out!
lunarose replied to frankenstein's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope by the time you have read this you are on the other side. I am over five years out and I eat normally just less. I do not chew my food excessively I can drink after a meal but just a little. It is scary and overwhelming and to be honest the first few weeks you'll probably think to yourself "What the F did I do to myself" but those thoughts will pass before you know it. It is hard to explain but your brain kind of resets itself some foods after the surgery just aren't as good but its not something you really miss. -

Sorry you are going through this hopefully it is a lipoma. I have a couple on my stomach and a few on my legs. I also had a lump in my breast that turned out to be gristle! -
Stalls happen. You'll get there, it is impossible to not lose weight if you follow the rules.

Post op day two, help
lunarose replied to jessmarie0122's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does get better with each passing day. I did not start to feel semi normal until day seven. I know you are tired but walking really helps with the gas pain. 40 ounces is not too bad for day two. You may want to try the chicken soup flavored protein I found the warmth of the soup help my tummy. -
6 months how much have you lost?
lunarose replied to jayali's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
80lbs is a great for month six. I lost an average of ten pounds a month and I was thrilled with it. You should be proud of yourself. -
What can I do with...Avocado?
lunarose replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
There are a couple things I love to do with avocados. I like to mash it and mix it with cottage cheese and I make a kind of egg salad with avocado, chopped eggs onions and if you like add chopped tomatoes and red chili peppers or jalopino (sp) making it a guacamole great in a lettuce wrap. -
There were several factors that made me choose the sleeve over the bypass. With the bypass you alter how your gi track works while with the sleeve you still process the food normally in your stomach. I also did not like the idea that I won't be able to take NSADs or certain cardiac drugs if I ever needed them. I also liked the idea that if the sleeve didn't work I could go the bypass.

Your surgeon sounds like he is lacking in the bedside manner department. I don't think you are a failure but there is something wrong here. What is your daily calorie intake? You should still be below 1,000 a day and exercising a minimum of 20- 30 minutes day. Where are you getting your Protein? I was 220 when I had my surgery in 2010 and I averaged around 10lbs a month for the first six months.

Alcoholism is not uncommon after WLS. Because of the surgery alcohol gets absorbed a lot quicker and gets into you blood stream at high concentrations. Most surgeons suggest skipping it all together after surgery some say small amounts after the first year.

Information overload! So many questions
lunarose replied to CanadaLoser's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ten years!?! Wow. I was self paid in California so the cost was a part of my deciding who and where. I had mine done by Dy Lyass and I picked him because he had it set up as a package price that included post op visits and labs for a year. Mine was done in a hospital but I would have been comfortable in a clinic. -
When did you start exercising?
lunarose replied to reesecup2626's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I went back to my work out of power walking after day ten when I had my drain removed. I just went slowly and worked up to what I walk today 2 3/4 hours a day five days a week. -

Veterans....#1 thing you miss / don't miss
lunarose replied to Kindle's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am five and a half years out. I miss not feeling nauseous if I over eat or drink too soon after I have eaten. I definitely do not miss shopping for plus size. And I love being able to buy online and not having issues with the fit once they arrive. -
How to get out of mental weight-loss mode?
lunarose replied to LumpySpacePrincess's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am four years out and still have that mentality. -
Hi All, I had my 4th anniversity this past August. I still feel the stricture but do need to keep from grazing. I am about 10 lbs from my low so I am happy with that but I gain if I am not careful. I lose any creep ups easily. I do have a problem with my Protein and carb balance. The surgeon wanted me to get about 120g a day based on my age and activity level. I find that I need to stay below 1400 cal a day to maintain my weight. My problem is I frequently end my work outs in ketoneacidosis. To correct this I need more carbs but I am not sure how to get them in. Any suggestions? I continue to drink Protein shakes daily.

My work outs are intense in that they are long I walk 2 1/5 hours a day 5 days a week and have been doing it for 35 years. Exercise was never a problem diet was lol. This time of year when I wear layers I get home and the bottom layers are sweatsoaked and smell like they were dipped in amonnia. I test my urine after my walks and the ketone level is higher then the strip can measure. I know in the early stages you actually want this as you are losing but I worry about long term. Other then that I love my sleeve. I never feel hunger and it is still easy to trigger the stricture feeling which is great this time of year.

I know the amonia smell I have when I sweat during my workouts is from high protein and low carbs. No matter what I do nothing seems to elimnate it. I was told by my surgeon based on my age and work out I am suppose to be getting 120grams of prtein a day something I rarely make it much above 80 - 90 a day but now I am wondering after reading over the years that everyone else's goals for protein are a lot lower. Could I be taking in too much protein and that is why I sweat amonia? Second is this harmfull?
