Is there a chance this will happen to me?
gracierose replied to camann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I don't understand is if you are eating less, even if it is the same type of food, why can't you lose? Sorry for the ignorance. -
Ohhh So CONFUSED!!!

I was required to have all appts (8 total), b/4 I can even meet the surgeon. In a holding pattern waiting on insurance. -
What exactly is Bandster Hell? Does not sound pleasant  Is it possible to lose weight before fills:blink:
-

Prilosec OTC - great stuff

Knocked of 4 more appts today and am now waiting for insurance clearance. The scales tipped at 231 an all time high. I feel awful:sad:. I have to attend my husband's family reunion this weekend and had to buy new clothes just to make it through 3 days. I want to proceed with banding asap and find the waiting to be very hard. Is it common to be down on yourself prior to surgery? I am so mad at myself for getting to this unhealthy, uncomfortable weight in the first place:mad:

All time high and feeling low

The weekend went fine. Of course I felt fat and out of place. I was with people who love me :blushing: -
Seasoned Bandsters October is my month for the rest of my life. Most everyone seems so positive about their decision and would do it again. Anyone out there with regrets/ If yes, can you share why. Thanks all for your inspiration.

Yes, I am from the MN. -
I have the option to stay the night post-op or go home. Any advice?

I work on a very busy unit/12 hour shifts. Shift starts at 7:45 and ends around 2100. Breaks do not exist, however we do get 30-45 minutes for lunch (sometimes not until 2pm) and 30 minutes for dinner (as late as 7pm). I am on my feet, walking fast, standing, pushing wheelchairs, boosting patients, crouching, bending and twisting for a great deal of my day. Cutting to the chase, how much time should I take off post surgery? We are cut little to no slack and will be called in if unable to keep up. By the way I am not telling anyone except for 2 close work friends. I'm really afraid to go back to early, particularly since my job is physically demanding and my diet will be so regimented post surgery. Any advice would be so appreciated.

I am a registered nurse who will be banded sometime in October. I'm being selective on who I am telling, only close friends, my sister, niece and sister-in-law. Not mother or mother-in-law (they would drive me crazy with questions and concern. I couldn't take it!) My dilemma is my co-workers. A couple of nurse colleagues have had bariatirc and were very open. I on the other hand am more private. Co-workers are going to know without a doubt due to my pre and post diets along with absence from work and weight loss. Should I just get it over with and send an email the day before or endure answering questions later? For the most part we are a supportive staff, however, many are very health conscious and will judge me that's for certain.

How about the rest of you nurses. How much time off and did you go back full speed. I'm scared.
-
Joonbug, I too am a nurse on a very busy unit and also work 12 hour shifts. How much time are you taking off? Are you going back to twelvers or cutting back initially? I'm afraid to go back to early. I won't be allowed to slack at all. Our manager is a bulldog.

Very good question. I too am interested. Thanks for posting.

Seems I'm reading posts that state some banders have lost minimal weight prior to their fills. I don't understand how you can be hungry with a small pouch. Does the food just go through and you can keep eating including the kinds of food that are high in fat, sugar, carbs etc? I think it would be really discouraging post op. Can you share your experience? Thanks K

I'm torn about telling
gracierose replied to gracierose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks all. It may come out eventually, I'm just not ready to "talk and tell":tt2: -
If all stays on track, I should be banded in early October. I have a wonderful 11 day cruise vacation planned with my sister 1/3/11. I can't even tell you how much I would like to lose weight prior to our trip. How possible will this be since I will only be 3 months post-op prior to the trip and only a couple of fills will have occurred? Is 30 lbs out of the question if I eat as designed and exercise? I am required to do a 10 day pre-op with Carnation Instant Breakfast only. I suspect this may get the ball rolling. I am starting to panic:scared2: My sister has had bariatric 3 years ago and looks wonderful. I would hate to feel like a fat pig and not enjoy myself due to feeling self conscious and unattractive:crying:

Am I Kidding Myself?
gracierose replied to gracierose's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for responding gingerjane. I don't really understand why a person doesn't lose alot at first since eating is so restricted with liquids, puree, soft etc. Is it because there have not been any fills and so you eat more? Is it because your body is holding on to fat since it is in starvation mode? -
hello all just joined in mn

Happy to hear you are doing well. Did you go home same day? -
Has anyone gone home the same day as surgery? If yes, how did you do?

Knocked 3 appts off today, 5 more to go. Not a slam dunk process that's for sure. My BMI came in @ 40.7 today which is on the line for lapband according to this facility. I was encouraged to start an exercise program now, vitamins, increase h20 intake etc. I'm wondering if my BMI creeps down, could I disqualiy myself. Surgery will take place sometime early October. I would just cry if I came up a 38 or 39 and was told no:scared2:
