I don't know about everyone, but I needed someone to help me for a few days after surgery. Not all day long, but often enough. I was in pain and couldn't move without help. Maybe if you have a friend of family member who can check on you? Or a neighbor? Someone who can come a few times a day to make sure you are ok and refill ice and water and stuff, and help you to the restroom.

Ok all- I am 6 weeks out, and can't figure out how to post a photo. BUT, mine are still red and itchy. They drain occationally, but I also need to admit that I absentmindedly scratch at them. I probably caused some minor infection, but it doesnt hurt, just itches. Anyway, I have my 6 week post op tomorrow, so I will likely get fussed at for the shape of my incisions. Has anyone else had this issue? I do have one that is just a pink 1 cm line, but the others are all still scabbed.

My surgery pain was gone by day 3 or 4, but the gas pain lasted longer. It was also worse than the incisions, but not everyone gets that. Get gasex or something like that BEFORE it hits, and try to prevent it. I was fine by day 6, and most people think that is a LONG time recovery. You will be fine for court. Good luck!!

What Kind of Vitamins do you take?
machan replied to mbranham0306's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hair loss?! Help! No one mentioned that to me. I take the Centrum chewables b/c I was told to stay away from the gummies. I also use the liquid sub lingual b-complex and tums for calcuim. What is the issue with Barium?? -
I need Lunch Ideas Please
machan replied to use-to-be-cute's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hummos? pureed with roasted red peppers is really good. Use a veggie or low fat cracker for dipping. I actually like it plain, but that's me. I also make a simple lentil soup- I am still on mushy foods, so these 'real foods' make me feel more adult. (Lentil soup recipe on back of red lentil bag) If you want the entire rec., I would be happy to post it. -
Actually, I have less coming out than going in, which might be causing the horrible gas pain. OUCH. I can hardly move without stabbing pain.

I spent this week thinking "wth did I do to myself?" I have been in pain, from incisions, gas, throat, and back. When one cleared up a little, the others hit with a vengence. BUT... Tuesday was surgery, and today is Saturday. I am better, can move better with just a little soreness, and not crying at every step or turn. This might be TMI, but try to get the gas out the back end. You shouldn't be able to burp yet, and it needs to get out to make you feel better.

unjury is good about samples. You can order their sample pack and see what works for you. It is whey, which I also can't tolerate but Lactaid does come in chewable form. I swear by that- soy doesn't have nearly the same protein as whey.

This, too, shall pass. Relax and be positive. I know this is easier said than done, and I just got my band yesterday, so I know nothing about your frustration. I do know that there is a 'bandster hell' board for people in your situation. You are not alone.

Banded yesterday. Few Questions.
machan replied to msmith73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i got mine yesterday, too, and i totally get you. I don't know how long the pain lasts, but today is better than last night. I have to pee like every 3 hours. considereing i haven't had much to drink, that is shocking. and it hurts to go, too. My Dr knew what he was talkig about for preop, though. nothing but clear liquids and a liquid laxitive. nasty, but a good thing today. nothing in there to come out yet, so don't have that pain yet. i found that juice bags i use for the kids are easy to drink- i use the roaring waters by capri sun- only 10 calories per bag i think. the straw helps. thanks for this board- the support is great. -
Any franchise restaurants offer WLS menu's?
machan replied to Mr180's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Any place should be ok. Just order an appetizer, ask if you can order lunch at dinner (usually ok, sometimes an extra charge) or just order whatever and ask for a 'to go' box with your dinner. Put what you know you won't eat in the box as soon as it comes, and then enjoy. -
I attend online OA meetings. I do believe in God, but you don't have to believe to attend or even follow the program. You just need to believe in something more powerful than yourself- even if that is just the group of people around you. It is helpful to have all the support you can- talking it out in a group makes things feel more real to me, so it gives me accountablity to someone other than myself. I lie to myself all the time, but I tend to be more honest with others. Overeaters Anonymous - Welcome to Overeaters Anonymous

ice cream addiction has me stalled long term
machan replied to kyethra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I, too, am addicted to ice cream. I think cold turkey is the best way to go. I can't control myself around the stuff, so even a little, or even diet stuff. It took a few weeks to get over the withdraw feelings, but it is ok now. I even had a party last night with an open sundae bar, and didn't even want it much. Just try to avoid all around. -
I am nervous, and scared. Is this really going to work? Is this what I want to do? This has been so hard- I have to get 1-2 more pounds off by then, so wish me luck!! I have lost more than 14 so far, and it still makes me almost cry to see food. I need to get over that. Maybe not being hungry after surg will help. I have worked all year for this, I can't believe I am having 2nd thoughts. Maybe I am just being silly. Thanks for listening.

I have surgery on the 7th of Sept, a Tuesday. I teach, so getting time off is hard. I am hoping to be able to go back Wednesday. I don't have to do much except stand a little in class, but sitting is ok if I need to. Anyone able to do this? Is there anything I can do before to make this more likely? Thanks.

I have assignments ready, but this will be the 2nd week of school, otherwise I wouldn't worry. I will play it by ear and see what happens.

What do you use to moisten your meat?
machan replied to Kristy29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try marinating in the light salad dressing. -
We just chatted about my weight history and stuff. Just making sure you aren't crazy or anything.

I had an ingrown toenail, and my PCP told me they would not do surgery if I had any cut or infection. Get it looked at just in case, at least by the nurse at your bariatric surgeon.

My therapist suggested, strongly, that I find OA meetings. I have two kids, which gives me a good excuse to not go, but I have done some online meetings. They help some, but not much. I really just feel out of control emotionally since I am so hungry all the time. I don't like this, neither does my family. I just want to cry all the time. I just need to vent. There is a local meeting tomorrow, I plan on going.

I was supposed to have surgery on the 24th, but due to complications with a poisonous spider bite, it was postponed until the 7th of September. I am really concerned about how well this is going to help me. I mean, I stopped almost all processed sugar three weeks ago, eat 1000-1200 kcal a day (approx) and am crabby all the time. I use food to keep me from being angry, frustrated, afraid, etc. Now that I am not eating all the time, all day long, I don't know what to do with all of these emotions coming out. Banding isn't going to make this better. any advice? Oh, and I am already in therapy.

Oh, and my doctor is only at the hospital my insurance covers on Tuesdays, so I can't move to a different day of the week. But I also don't work Fridays, and Thursday is the same schedule as Wed, so only a few hours.

Ok, I teach college, so fights and so on will not be an issue. I wouldn't worry about taking time off if I taught k12. But classes meet only once or twice a week, so taking of more time is hard. I was supposed to do this before the semester started, but that didn't go as planned. Mine is also outpatient, so I won't be in the hospital overnight. I only have to teach 2 classes, from 9-12:30, and then can go home. My husband even works nearby, so he can drop me off and pick me up so I won't have to drive. I really am more concerned about pain than anything else. I was in class when I went into labor, and finished class before driving myself home. (1st child, long labor).

Charged for 6 Month Med Supervised Diet??
machan replied to nallygirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine has been a little here and a little there to add up to a LOT. My Dr has a $500 program fee, and I still am not sure what that covers other than the support groups and educational materials. Nutritionist was not covered, so paid 100 for that, and the psych eval was covered but I got charged an additional 100 for that. The med supervised diet was also NOT covered, which I didn't realize until month 4 when I had no other issues. The 1st 3 appoints (with PCP) I had other questions or problems in addition to the diet stuff. The one time I didn't have anything else, insurance denied it. I made sure to be sick for the next two appointments!! (or asked for RX refills, etc.) Insurance gave no further trouble. -
Just registered in need of friends
machan replied to sarabay's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am on the 24th also. We can all work together. I got all stressed out this weekend and didn't lose anything, (only 8 lbs to go before surgery) but I am ok. Hope all goes well for you both. This board makes me feel better.
