I was a "super healthy" fat person until surgery changed my life. Was it worth it?
lfw57 replied to LipstickLady's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
LipstickLady - What a wonderful, honest, well written post! You described so well the little things we deal with on a daily basis. I'm 52 and also considered a "fit-fat" person (but that's really an oxymoron, right?). My cholesterol and blood pressure levels are fine and I'm not diabetic . I swim. I've done CrossFit. I do yoga. I spin (and can keep up with women half my size). But at a high of 280 lbs these activities take a major toll on my body and I have to pop a couple of Advil because my knees are swollen, my back aches and I'm exhausted. The rest of the day I'm on the couch feeling like a failure wondering why I can't get this problem under control. I'm exactly 1 week post-op today. The week has been a physical and emotional challenge, but posts like yours are so inspirational, and such a huge help. Your photos show someone who is living a life full of joy and it helps me to see that this could be my future too. Sending you a huge thank you! Lisa -
Anyone from Rhode Island/New England area?

I had my surgery on June 6th at Mount Auburn Hospital with Dr. Julie Kim. Have received excellent care there and am doing pretty well. 12 lbs down since! -
I just has the sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair on Monday. The gas pain has been horrible, but is getting better every day. I didn't want to take the oxycodone but the nurse told me not to be brave and take it. I feel much better after a couple of hours. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Any June sleevers out there?

I was sleeved on Monday. Had problems getting any liquids in, but today is better. Getting 40 oz at a minimum is a real challenge. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

My surgery is Monday as well. So far just coffee and Protein shake. Am very nervous but will try to keep busy, as well. Am making my own chicken broth. My coworkers gave me a beautiful bouquet of flowers and a card, which was so nice. I started all this in January...I can't believe it's finally here! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Calling all... May/June 2016 Sleevers
lfw57 replied to LadyWarren's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
June 6th here. Am glad I have more time since my diet still isn't where I want it to be and am working on it but am also getting increasingly anxious/nervous about it, which I know is normal. -
Congratulations! We share the same surgery date. I got my date two weeks ago, and am excited.

Question for those of you who have Dr Kim or Mt Auburn/Tufts: What did they instruct you to eat right before your surgery date and for how long? I didn't see instructions in my binder. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Oprah ate my inner skinny person.
lfw57 replied to katieroybal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've watched Oprah struggle with her weight since the 80's, and I've come to the conclusion that having money doesn't mean you have better access to information than the rest of us "mere mortals". In my desperate attempt to lose weight I researched nutrition for years but I never even looked into understanding the facts about surgery, because I thought, like most people do that it was taking a drastic and "easy" approach. Then a close friend had the sleeve and my doctor, who I trust suggested I look into it, and I learned the facts. I was surprised that with all my work to educate myself, I was ignorant about this. So I'm guessing Oprah my not be aware or have strong biases, like I did. My surgeon told me they struggle to influence primary care doctors, even with several quality, peer reviewed studies that prove the success of WLS. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
When do you tell someone new you're dating you've had WLS?
lfw57 replied to gpmed's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I agree with Alex. You are under no obligation to tell. Your body and surgery is very personal and is your business. I'm pre-op but have thought about this, as I'm single. I can't imagine I would get into a relationship with someone who has a bias against this to begin with. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

Wow... Fantastic news on clearing all the conditions! Who would have thought only after 20 lbs since your surgery. Sounds like you have a good attitude about your eating challenges as well. Is temporary and I'm sure will gradually improve. Got my surgery date last week: June 6th! Am excited and nervous as well. Has been over 4 months since I started and is now very real, if that makes sense. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Quick update. I think it was caffeine. Had been increasing my coffee consumption without realizing it. I cut back to one a day and they decreased significantly. I also cut back on the amount of whey I was consuming at once to 30g or less. Thanks all for the reply. I had them checked and they are benign. I also have reactive hypoglycemia so this could also contribute. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I'm pre-op and have been having a protein shake daily for about a month. Is a high quality brand: BlueBonnet. I've been experiencing heart palpitations and abnormally high blood pressure. I read that it's a common reaction to Tyrosine, which is included in the list of ingredients - part of the amino acid profile in whey. Has anyone experienced this side effect from whey? Glad you're doing better. I was at that session at Mt. Auburn.... heard Dr. Goldberg say all those things. Is helpful to read your journey as I'm about 6 weeks from my surgery date. Have my final nutrition appt with Sarah this week before submitting paperwork for insurance approval. How much time did you take off from work? Am thinking two weeks... is amazing to me when I read people going back the next day or days after. -
Thanks all - Glad I'm not alone. I've had very minor palpitations for years, but they sprung up in intensity and frequency... along with my blood pressure. I thought it might be Vitamin D or something else, until I read this: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=106852601&page=1 I have an appointment with my nutritionist this week (my last one before submitting for insurance approval...yay!) and will bring it up with her. I'll post a follow up. For now I'm taking it out and replacing with Greek yogurt in my morning smoothie. Have been checking out vegan Protein powder options but none look very palatable, although I do like the idea of getting more plant nutrition this way. Again.. thanks for the replies...love this forum!

Hi all - Going through the pre approval phase at Mt Auburn. Had my immersion day in late Jan/early Feb and have my first surgeon appt in two weeks. They estimate early May, although I wish it was sooner. So far I like Mt Auburn... am glad to be able to connect with others here. Lisa Watertown
