    Long Island Surgeons ?

I had the band removed in oct 2013. Dr Castro will not do revisions in all in one surgery because he wants the scar tissue to heal. He says he gets better results that way. It didn't matter to me cuz I was still doing my whole approval process. Anyway I was afraid since the band and the sleeve were both restrictive devises I would have the same issues. Well I was sleeved on March 31 and I feel the difference immediately. I have never felt restriction like this! I love it. I am between purée and full liquids now. With purée a few bites and I am full... Like all you can eat buffet full. With full liquids I can only get in 4oz. I haven't felt this good physically in about 2 years. I am down 15 pounds since my surgery date and hopefully more when I weight in tomorrow. If 15 pounds down feel this good can't imagine how 50 or 100 will feel!

    Long Island Surgeons ?

I originally did the band with New York Bariatric group but I wasn't happy with the band or the staff. I been with Dr Castro out of New York Hospital Queens in Flushing. I Love him and the staff!! He removed my band and did my sleeve. Anyone who does bariatric surgery in the hospital does it with him. He is very skilled and has excellent bedside manner. His clinical coordinator Amy is also excellent she works with you and the insurance company aggressively to get you not only to surgery day but to successfully be on the losing side.

    April 2014 pre-op group

My date is April 8. I was expecting March but the communication between the nurse coordinator and OR booking broke down. So coordinator had me on like the 3rd week of a liquid diet before she realized the surgery (due to surgeon being on vaca in March ) wouldn't be until 5 weeks later. So I was told to stop the liquids and then to restart them 2 weeks prior to surgery. Smh! Anyway it's been a long journey for me had lapband 1/11/11. Made the decision to revise 12/12, band removed 10/15/13 and now I'm here.

    March 2014 Surgery!

Uh I'm so disappointed... Instead of a march date that I expected my dr is going on vacation so my surgery date is April 8 7:30am. I was told to stop the liquid diet but continue to eat high protein low carbs and losing weight then I have to restart a week before the surgery. The wait is killing me!!

    March 2014 Surgery!

Day 5 of pre op liquid diet...I hate everyone!!! Lol!
  14. @ sweetcheeks14 after having the band I really didn't give much thought to the sleeve. I feel since I have a large amount of weight to lose I would benefit more from the malabsorbative properties of RNY. I discussed both options with my Doctor and he agreed with me. Also after I had my band removed the Doctor said that my stomach had so much scar tissue that the sleeve would have been a poor option for me anyway.
  15. So I got the call on Friday I was approved for RNY surgery. I feel like I have come a long way in the past few years. I originally had lapband surgery in 2011. My highest weight was 360lbs ( I think?) and around 336lb surgery day. I went as low as 259lbs in 6 months and that was it. My band was never adjusted in a way where I felt restriction. Then due to insurance and financial issues I left the first Dr I had. I had continous pain at port site and in my stomach. The weight slowly started to creep back on then more quickly. I gained almost every pound back. I felt like a failier and that I had wasted my chance. All the food that were healthy were the hardest to eat andI reverted to high cal slider foods. I had lost the mindset I developed that helped me lose the weight initially. So in Nov of 2012 I found a new doctor ( came highly recommended by several people) and had a consult. I spent almost a year after thinking about my decision. In June I started to see my private dr to do the required 6month appt and started to see my cardiologist and etc. (I had many cardio visits and tests due to a heart condition I had in pregnancy) Anyway in Oct 2013 I had my band removed. My new Dr is one of those who follow the practice of not doing a revision in one surgery. ( which, although I was disappointed was the best decision because I had tons on scar tissue) So after all that I am glad to say I was approved last Friday!! : ) I had my last pre op appoint today and tomorrow starts the liquid diet which I am so nervous about. I mean I guess I gotta do what it takes cuz my dr says he will not do surgery till I drop 20 lbs.It will most likely be in March. ( a week after my B day! ) I am looking forward to this new chapter and lifestyle but I still feel like I'm morning food instead of my old fat body ( and its inconveniences) SOO Anyway thats me...Any tips and advise would be more than welcome.
