Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
Lap_dancer replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello Friends! Closer we get! Woo HOO. @Woofay- I am the panic Queen but therapy helped. I learned about "Rational Emotive Therapy". Look it up on Wikipedia. My panic attacks were not well controled but they are much better. Try not to schedule any events, relax more as in secret yourself off to your room, let the family get take-out, try to pamper yourself some. I've taken off from work (without pay) a few days a week because mobility is such a problem and I'm so done with pain. I can't take any pain pills because I'm detoxing my liver. That's going real well so far. Need to change my start weight. I was bigger! Woo Hoo girls. Almost there. -
Yes I was a member of OA for about six months. It was held at no cost at the Unity Church in my area. There is a book very much like AA and yes, Houstonwehavea said it right when she compared it to the twelve steps of AA. It was beneficial to me to a point and I would encourage anyone to try it. They have their own recovery language like most groups with addiction. Hope that helped.

It's April 1st and in 16 days I'll board my flight to Atlanta and then Denver for my banding. Words cannot convey how thrilled I am. The months of fighting with insurance don't matter right now. Surgery Date: Check Flight: Check Hotel: Check

What a great story. I can't wait to read more of it. I too was a Phen Feni. Did awesome, lost 60 pounds and my appetite was gone. First time in my life I could eat and feel full or not eat when I didn't sense hunger. (pausing to say "Melissa" by The Allman Brothers is such a great song ) I get reflective at times like these.

Let them talk. Go right ahead, I'll jog right past them, wave on my way to the bank where I'll withdraw some cash to do a "down sized" shopping spree. Your brother is ignorant. His words stand on their own. I have to get a snappy comeback in there always, something like " No guts hanging out here Charlie, my clothes are fitting so much looser these days but thanks for noticing." "You don't look so well" ... "Really? I feel great and not at all like the fat and winded me I use to be." and I'd have to throw in "I'm getting ready to go shopping...another size down!!!" "What if something goes wrong" ... "What if something goes right? Just think, in a year about be half the size I am now!" "The rest of your life?" ... " Yup! And I'll be thinner and healthier the REST OF MY LIFE!" "So much money!" ... "Actually long-term I'll recoup my money in savings on medications and co-morbidities". "But you won't be able to eat what you want"... "But I WILL be able to walk, run, bend, sit in a booth, go without total exhaustion, the list goes on and on" ......................... People that were gung ho for me four months ago, are sabatoging me now and they are mostly members of my own family. I wish it were for fear that something bad might happen to me but I know it is nothing but jealousy.

You have a right to a copy of your insurance policy. This is no grand request and no mystery that is exclusive for the doctor's eyes only.

Some of these folks are at a different place than I am. I'm detoxing but what is really confusing me is the post operatives who are consuming what I perceive to be solid foods. My doctor said post surgery Clear liquids for a month. I think that to be Water, broths and CLEAR items.

Click on the website for from one of the other's tickers. It's a direct link. At the website choose your ticker ( 1, 2, 3...) at 1 you can select by clicking directly on the item box to the left and then continuing by selecing 2. If you so not see an item you like at 1, there are numbered 1-12 different lines. Click 2 and select your little ticker tracker..bugs, sun, palm tree... and select the box to the left of it. Click next or 3 and type in your information. Is it a fertility check? Countdown to a date (last one)? select that one. add all the details you want. Click the generator and you will get your code at the bottom. Click and highlight the code, "copy" (ctrl + C ) and then go into your signature edit box on forum by entering the USER CP at the top left of Lapband talk. The USER CP is your control panel. You will see "Edit signature" as an option. Click that and then find a spot where you wish to put your ticker in your signature (much like a post box) and add it by (Ctrol +V ) SAVE CHANGES. and you are good to go.

Cost? I'm sure this has been answered before...
Lap_dancer replied to RAYSBABE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went surgery shopping because I am a self pay. Cheapest and best deal overall was Mexico, Dr. Ortiz. Husband was concerned about recourse if anything happened ( I doubt it ) and the doctor being in another country ( not my issue ) so we met in the middle and I went with Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. My surgery is in 18 days. My reservations are made and even with car rental and hotel and flight, I'm still saving money. Locally, I was quoted $15K to $20K. -

Great news here. Congratulations on your successes. Way to go! -
It's not like it's been five years and you moved and had some distractors there. Now that you are in a new location, find that doctor in your area and jump back on it. Hey! The worst part is over!! Best to you!

You give me great hope!

Rocko glad to hear that overall you are feeling great. You sound coherant. Congrats on now being a loser!

HACK! Lemons. That's the trick for fish. I see you are in St. Pete. I'm close but going to Denver. My insurance wouldn't pay. Best to you. Keep us posted on your progress.

I would go to the doctor and check your band. You may need a fill. If you don't feel any restriction, sounds like you are ready for a fill.

Should parents be able to smack children in discipline
Lap_dancer replied to flabuless's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There is already in place a plan for children who are abused. I don't see why the government needs to interfere even more. That is the part that scares me. If there is a law in place, and a parent has disciplined a child by spanking, that parent may be arrested if there is a law against spanking? I think not!! On the other hand, a parent who is abusive to the point of leaving bruises and calls THAT discipline, needs to be locked up. -
read my mind.

Should parents be able to smack children in discipline
Lap_dancer replied to flabuless's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Excellent point. I did spank my children but not before several warnings, not before a time out, not before a "one last time". If they persisted in doing what it was that they were told not to do, that crossed over from mindless child behavior to willful disobedience. -

Wow! did you say a lot. ........................................................ I work in a public school. The year I began, they had "paddling" that is a student acted out, they got the paddle or three, two or one whack from the vice principal. He did more yelling than anything and the shame of them walking up to the office was merciless but guess how many times he paddled a school population of 800 annually? One, maybe two students. The fear alone of having to go up there kept many kids inline. Now, take out that paddling and add government intervention and "child abuse"* and you have kids who have time out, loss of priveledge, sent home. Guess what? Behavior is worse than I have ever seen it. I've watched behavior deteriorate over the years. Parents are so afraid to be parents that they have to schedule play dates to make sure the parents of the other child aren't perverts. It has created an environment of over protectiveness to the detriment of a child's natural development. You have professionals making these statements who perhaps know what a natural limit would be giving instruction to the lay parent who doesn't. Spanking is effective and there is a difference between whacking a child who knows and understands what they did and one who doesn't. There is a difference between a swat and beating a child. If someone can't remember how many times they spanked their child, that is loss of temper being taken out on a child and that isn't proper discipline. That is abuse. -
I believe it.
