"FINALLY 100 lbs lost forever"
dk4k replied to mandyMO's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations on the loss, Mandy! I hadn't thought about this in a while, but your post reminded me that I realized I needed to do something about my weight when I sat down in a chair at the dentist, and when I got up, the chair came with me. NOT a good feeling. -
Be positive, eat slowly, drink water! Best of luck on your surgery day! Let us know how it goes.

That must feel ONEderful, Mary! Enjoy it!

I feel your joy!!!!!! Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

Joy, I just went from 13+ pound loss in one month, to 1.6 pounds the next month! I still didn't want a fill because I get a little tighter during my period so I told the dr. I would wait it out for another 2 weeks. I've lost 4 pounds since then! I didn't change anything. While I agree with what everyone has said so far, I think that's just the way the body is, especially after a big loss, it wants to protect itself and hang on to its stores. Don't worry, your loss will pick back up! Just stay positive because you know you are making yourself healthier!

Post-op Diet is Killing Me!!
dk4k replied to stevenjoec's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So well stated!!! This is 99% of the problem right here. Keeping yourself really busy, and putting some distance between you and food, will make it easier. Exercise helps because when you are done, you are usually feeling really good and in a positive frame of mind. I tried some things before I was supposed to, and I did fine. Refried Beans thinned out with some salsa and a spoon of sour cream might be good. Or better yet, replacing the sour cream with plain greek yogurt (I use Fage brand) gives you a bunch of Protein and the same consistency. I wouldn't go too far off your doctor's plan, but if you're dying for something different, just try to make it healthy and not hard to swallow. Before you know it, you'll be a few months post op, having success, and remembering this as one teeny bump in the road. -
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! I like the line in the song that goes, "I might steal your clothes and wear them if they fit me." Cute!

We've all felt the roller coaster of emotions that come with being obese, unhealthy, unsure, deciding to do something about it, taking control, etc. There's more to come too (most people get a panicky, what- have-I-gotten-myself-into feeling shortly before surgery), but it will all be worth it when you start losing weight and making yourself healthier.

This picture offers such great insight! I never realized how much our bones have to move to accommodate all that extra stuff! My joints hurt just looking at the way the obese person's hips and ankles have to tilt, compared to the healthy person's. Thanks for sharing.

1st post, needing some post op emotional support
dk4k replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well that makes a big difference Pam! That is not unusual at all for 4 days post op. It is HARD to do it by yourself, though! And I'm sure you don't have a whole lot of energy yet. Did you have the hiatal hernia repair at the same time? I think I felt the most discomfort from that part of it. It can hang around for a few weeks, but you should notice some improvement soon. -
NSV - I'm super excited!!!

1st post, needing some post op emotional support
dk4k replied to Pammy S Lewis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Pam, I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble. If I eat too fast or take too big bites (what used to be regular bites for me), I get a great pressure in my chest. I wonder if that's your problem? As much as I try to follow the lap band rules, I still do this once in a while. -
Yeah, I was amazed at how fast your taste can change when you take away those unhealthy things. I have tried soda and the first taste was like, "why do people drink this?" My son brought home a Sonic burger the other night, and I even hated the smell!
-
Cheers for both of you!!!

Where are my fellow November 2010 bandsters????
dk4k replied to Toohotfortv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded 11-23, and I've lost 38 pounds! I've had 2 fills but didn't have one at my last visit because I had lost 13 pounds in a month. Then I did a 5K (yay me!) and my knees hurt for 2 weeks afterward. So I was moving very slowly for a while and lost 1 pound last month. I'm trying to decide on whether to get a fill on Monday. I don't want to get to an uncomfortable tightness. I just got to where I can exercise without pain, so I'm hoping to start losing a pound or so a week again. My whole family is going to do a 5K together in a few weeks, so here's hoping my knees stay happy! My husband even starting running last week, and he feels great about it. Benefits all around! You all are inspiring and make me just want to keep moving forward! -
Congrats, TKW! Way to go. I never thought about what it might feel like to lose 100 lbs. until I read your post! It must be an awesome feeling.

I've Lost 157 Pounds After Lap Band Surgery!!!!! Yay!
dk4k replied to Jill10191130's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations, Jill! What a success. You look SO much younger, and I bet it doesn't hurt to move anymore! -
41.2 to 35.4 in 3 months! I track BMI and lbs. lost on my ticker. As a goal, I picked the nearest 5-lbs. within the "normal" BMI range. Getting there!
-
Congratulations on a year of great success!

Yaaaaaay!!!!!

I prefer "minion". "Whatchamacallit" is good too, but I use that regularly when I forget words, so my family would not know what I was talking about.
-
When is the climb? My only advice is to get outside for hikes, because I found out the hard way that being on solid ground is a lot harder on your joints than the treadmill. My knees still hurt 4 days after my first 5K. If I were doing it, I'd use the treadmill to build up endurance, mixed with outdoor hiking to get used to the terrain. This is not insane, it's a great goal to shoot for!

And now the failing begins?
dk4k replied to mattie7632's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had the same experience with my weight loss. It's SO up and down! I only record the new low weights, and I only weigh myself 2x a week. If I weighed every day, I'd be stressed out.
