  1. Well I thought I would die the first 2-3 days on the liquid diet! Thought about eating everything around me but I didn't. The popsicles helped a lot. I am 4 weeks post-op so I survived, and you will too. It is hard but it gets you ready for the "after", not just physically but mentally. If you start learning how to sip your shakes and Water now, you will not make yourself uncomfortable after the surgery by taking large swallows. Deb
  2. I have also noticed that my clothes are no longer uncomfortable. It's a great feeling! Also I am not squishing my insides when I sit down and bend over to put on sneakers. Yesterday, I put on a pair of jeans that I couldn't wear last year. They fit (and didn't hurt either)!!!!

    Finally!! 100 pounds gone.

What an amazing milestone! Celebrate your accomplishment.
  4. I'm finally getting to the point where I think I might need a fill. Until now I thought I was doing pretty great, but am starting to notice I am hungrier. Still eating small amounts at meals and I feel like it is enough, I just get hungry sooner. Next appointment is Jan. 6, so not too long to wait. Meanwhile I'm eating cottage cheese or almonds for snacks. My husband gives me a shocked look every time I put anything remotely unhealthy near my mouth (like recently sharing a hershey with almonds with him). I really don't need the pressure hon! I'm afraid to try bread, I think it's the only thing that may get stuck at this point. I'm having no trouble with small bites and lots of chewing, but still have trouble taking my time to finish a meal. Regardless, I'm not eating much and I am losing weight at a rate I'm very happy with.
  5. Had my first post-op appointment today! I have lost 21 pounds since beginning the liquid diet. I am feeling really great about that. On to mushy foods (I was trying lots of things already but now it's authorized). I have not been too hungry so this is pretty easy. I just have to get used to squeezing in all the Protein in a day.
  6. I was sent home from the hospital with a bunch of samples of Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins and calcium tablets. I am following all the band rules but I hate these things! Does anybody use a vitamin they really like? Please put me out of my misery!
  7. WOW!!! That is so great to hear. I started at about the same weight and size as you, so it is really encouraging to hear your progress! I wish you continued success.

    So, here's the issue.....

But beans are a low fat protein! I can't wait to have some refried ones and some smashed into hummus ones next week. I'm surprised at that one being on your 'No' list.
  9. Thanks for the input. I'm going to do some research and see which of these varieties comes anywhere near the vitamin levels of the Bariatric Advantage, and try that one!
  10. Powdered peanut butter? Who knew?
  11. Are you feeling healthier? Are you moving more and excited about your future? That's what you have to focus on right now, and the rest will come later.
  12. Hummus! It's just garbanzo beans, lemon juice, garlic and a little olive oil and salt. Yum....
  13. I hope you get some answers, quick!
  14. I am 5 days post-op and feeling much better. First 3 nights I could only sleep on my right side, but now I'm doing fine on both sides and back. My port area was very tender at first, hard to sit down, get up, turn, etc. That is mostly 100% better! My only problem seems to be burping. I burp a lot and it usually hurts! I have read of other people having the same problem though. It hurts in my diaphragm area, which I guess is due to the hernia stitching....? Is anyone taking a B12 supplement? What brand do you use, and is it chewable or liquid? I think the B12 has a lot to do with people's increased energy. I'm supposed to start that with the mushy food, I think. I'm REALLY looking forward to mushy food!

    stage 3 foods

Here are several great ideas--I'm especially looking forward to trying the baked ricotta: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html Sorry about the coughing! Have you checked with your doctor?
  16. I was banded today! The sweet nurse said Happy Band Day when I left. I am tired and sore, with just a little pressure inside, kind of like I need to do a major burp. So not bad. I can handle this! Happy Band Day, all! Deb
  17. Hi everyone! I'm Debbie, and my big day is 11/23, two days before Thanksgiving! I will be having turkey broth on turkey day. :crying: Wow, there are so many people getting banded in November, I will have to go back and catch up on all the posts. I read about halfway through but just wanted to chime in to say that I start my 2-week pre-op shakefest tomorrow. I bought BariEssentials from the dr.'s office. I REALLY hope it doesn't suck, since this stuff is so expensive and I didn't take the time to look around for other options. One year ago this month, I had brain surgery. Came through with flying colors. A week later I was back in the hospital with 3 blood clots in my lungs. Long story short, I am happy (and lucky) to be alive, and to be what I consider "moving on with my life." Last year the doctors told me that my blood clots were due to either birth control pills, or the surgery, or a combination. No one told me that the highest risk factor for blood clots is obesity. No one until the WLS doctor, that is. So while surgery is risky, I am reducing the risk by taking daily Lovenox (blood thinner) injections. And I am reducing my life-long risk by losing weight. Wish me luck, and I wish you all the same!
  18. I am going to try to keep myself very busy during the day when I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. I seem to go looking for something to eat a few times a day when I'm home alone.
  19. I think it is very normal. Once I committed to getting the surgery, I immediately got a little scared and wondered what the heck I was doing! I remember that was my first thought when I found out I was pregnant with my first child too, and I have never regretted him of course! It's just a MAJOR life adjustment. You can eat good food again, just in a different way. I can't give any advice on the fills, as my band date is yet to come, 11/23. Good luck though!

    Getting banded on the 15th

Best of luck to you! The 23rd is my big day.
  21. I'm glad you're feeling better! I've heard so much about that gas pain. I was telling my kids about this yesterday, and they said, so, you're going to fart alot? I said no, I don't think it comes out that way...they said, then you're going to burp a lot? I said I didn't think I'd do that either! Does it basically just have to break down inside you?

Hi Banded Theresa! Your post just made me think of a question I haven't considered yet...having a cold so soon after surgery, does it hurt to cough? Do you have to be careful not to literally split a gut?
  23. That's great news! I just looked up the word "patience" in the dictionary, and it said, "see babs 88!" :frown: Your extreme patience will pay off in the long run.

    Hello!

Hi Korilynn! I'm on my way soon too (11/23), and I'm nervous and excited and mostly nervous. :frown: My husband has just started asking lots of questions, so I know he is getting used to the idea of it all. Good luck, your surgery day will be here before you know it!
  25. I'm hoping for a positive outcome on a minor medical procedure tomorrow, because if it goes well, my Band date is 11/23!
