I am still in the beginning stages of my lap band journey.  I have been thinking about this for quite a while but my old insurance didn't cover the surgery and I didn't have the money to cover it so I figured it was something that I would have to plan for much later.  About a year ago, I changed jobs but I made the mistake of assuming that my insurance didn't cover the surgery based on my prior research with my old insurance company...boy, was that a mistake!  A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I were watching TV and I saw an ad for Lap Band surgery and it said that a lot of insurances were covering it.  My husband looked at me and said, "are you sure that our insurance doesn't cover this?"  The next morning, I contacted my insurance - United Health Care - and was told that they cover 90% after you meet your deductible as long as I meet their requirements (which I do) and use a surgeon and a hospital in their network (no problem).  Our deductible is pretty high, but I had knee surgery in April so I have already met it for the year...lucky me!  I did some research on surgeons and am currently scheduled to attend the Informational Seminar on July 27, 2010.  I can't make an appointment with the surgeon until I attend this seminar so I will be making my appointment later that afternoon!
