dreamskin replied to dreamskin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for that, I have had a nice bath with almond oil and lavender and pepperment oil in it, some ice to chew because Chinese food makes you so thirsty, and about 6 trips to the loo. I am starting to feel a bit better so I will go to bed, and never ever do that again. I have only had my band since the 2nd August so I really am still learning.. Thanks for the advise. -
That is harsh and I disagree, who wants friends that make no time for you at all? I think your reply to a genuine concern was super aggressive.

It is so weird, isn't it? You wouldn't think it would make any difference.

Thats a good letter.

All of the above is the exact reason why I have told nobody except my two daughters and 1 friend. I have a lot of other friends and I haven't told any of them! I haven't even told my partner, we live together but he is is a fly in/ fly out job and away for 9 days and home for 6. Me not telling him is hard to believe I know, but I have my reasons. People are strange and envious and I am just going to make up excuses and never tell them. I have told all of them that I had my gall bladder removed (The old Gall Bladder removal trick, eh, Maxwell Smart voice) and that I was going to start eating healthy. I really do think the fewer people you tell, the better, unfortunatly, some people judge, or get jealous and they can make life miserable. Just be yourself, I don't know how old you are but in my experience, sometimes friendships just run their course. You are the one responsible for your life, they have their's to live and your decisions are no-ones business but yours.

How long after surgery did you see yout doctor?
dreamskin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my banding done on the 2nd August and discharged the following morning without setting eyes on my doctor, oh I lie, I glimpsed him in the corridor. I will not be seeing him till the 14th of September, which seems an awfully long time. I suppose I will get a fill then. Has that been your experience? -
How long after surgery did you see yout doctor?

I dont know, the nurses just told us the bandages would fall off and I think the stitches are disolvable. I just think that Australian hospitals are the pits. And they call us The Lucky Country!!! -
What if i never what up?
dreamskin replied to zeniada's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was my exact worry, and the fist thing I thought when I woke from surgery was "I am alive" The second was "Ouch" Like my anestheistist said, you are surrounded by medical experts and it is way safer than driving your car. The statistics are very very very low of anything going wrong. It will be over before you know it. -
Yummy recipe for soft food (mushies)
dreamskin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only 3 days into the mushies and I was walking to the store today thinking about what to eat and feeling so bored with the usual stuff and I remembered my Mum used to make this. Thickly slice 3 tomatoes and 1 large onion, dot with a little butter and top with breadcrumbs and bake it till it is really cooked well. I got so excited I nearly ran home and it is in the oven now and smells great. I am going to have a quarter of a lean cuisine with it. Yum! -

did anyone cheat on the post op diet?
dreamskin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on a 2 weeks of liquids, then two weeks of mushies diet after my banding on Aug2nd. I have had a couple of bites of other things today, day 13 of liquids. just a bite of cooked very soft apple and a spoonful of soft goats cheese. and now I feel guilty. And yet I read on here that some of you are only on liquids for a few days? I dont get it..... -
How can I get more protein?
dreamskin replied to Twinkles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it is so easy to do and this is what I was writing about on my "Did you ever cheat" thread. I dont think that any of us are getting enough infoirmation from the doctors and dieticans. We just have to try to figure it out for ourselves, and thats not so easy. -
Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
dreamskin replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 weeks later from being banded and I am feeling great. Listen to my music and dancing around the house like a looney again! The experience I had in hospital had NOTHING to do with the surgery, I hope I didn't scare anyone. I would do it again and just avoid those bitchy nurses! Good luck to all of you getting banded soon or recently banded, 2 weeks in, you will be really happy you did it. -

dreamskin replied to Twinkles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will get sick if you keep going like that, your iron levels will drop and you won't feel good at all. I know how you feel though, sometimes it is hard to fit any more in. Could you talk to your dietican? Your body will think it is being staved to death and just not let go of anything. I wonder if fish capsules are a good source of protein? -
did anyone cheat on the post op diet?
dreamskin replied to dreamskin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks and yeah, hot toddie (what a great name) I am being very very careful, but if someone would write a good book with kits of recipes, they would do really well. I bought a book from Amazon, very good at all the technical stuff but not so good at day to day things that you need to know. There were a few smoothie recipes in there, that all.I will not put spagetti bol. into a blender. It just isn't going to happen. I am just going to have to eat the same old boring stuff for a few weeks and use my brains from then on about what I eat. -
did anyone cheat on the post op diet?
dreamskin replied to dreamskin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know, the thing is, you go to Jenny Craig or Weight watchers or whatever and they give you ALL the information, it takes hours to just read through it all. I went to see my doctor and the dietican, no recipes, hardly any guidlines, just a couple of p*** weak pages of nothing. I think they do it because they know we are going to pay the money, why should they put any extra effort into it? -

Thanks for that and you are so right. My doctor is a man of few words, some say...I call it arrogant and I am left stumbling around in the dark half the time, trying to figure it out as I go. Do this, don't do that! I have learned more from this forum than I ever will from him. Hmm.... maybe bone up on all the info and start charging like the doctors do.....! -

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
dreamskin replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for that guys, things are defineatly not as good hospital wise here as they are there. I lived in the U.S for 2 years and have been in hospital there, as well as visiting aunts cousins etc. There is a huge difference. I was so shocked at how bad it was for me here, I put in a complaint and asked them to call me right away, but what do you think....no call. The thing that upset me most was the woman across from me, it seemed the more she cried, the more they bullied. I got p****ed off with them and told her in no uncertain terms not to push me, and she backed off considerably. I just felt that I shouldn't have to fight for pain killers in hospital especially when the doctor had written them up for me. Oh well, I am still happy I got it done, I will never go back there again though. American hospitals are about 8 years ahead of ours and that is from the horses mouth, a specalist told me that. -
This forum is so much better than the Aussie one I was on.
dreamskin posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love this forum. I have been on an Australian one, a yahoo group, and it is run by tyrants. You are NEVER allowed to post a new thread, you MUST go to the General Questions thread and just throw it in there and hope for the best. Which means the first pages never change, the same spotlight hoggers (us normal ones on the site call them the Thread Police) are the ones writing everything, it is boring and you are always getting yelled at! I come home and read my posts and it puts me in a bad mood, and I am sure you are not supposed to get in a bad mood from a gastric banding help site. The "police" are all nasty and judgemental, and Thank God, I am happy I came across this site. I love America! I used to live there, I should have never come home. Thank you guys for being the best! -
I am in a very stressful home situation, a violent partner and nowhere to go for the time being, and tonight was bad. I dont know what happened but before I knew it, I had eaten 2 small bits of bread with butter, 3 spoons of spaghetti sauce and a bit of soft fruit cheese. I am nine days post op and supposed rto be on fluids. Have I blown it?
