Those Last 15 Lbs Are The Hardest To Lose.... (Wondering If I Should Try Lo Carbing It)
lawismylife replied to marfar7's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think after a few months you stop craving it and can manage without all of it. It depends how bad you want to lose those last pounds. Either you eat less or exercise more - the low carb thing will get you there because it puts your body in a fat burning state of keytosis. I would recommend exercising more to keep it off by building muscle. But ultimately - its up to you how badly you want those pounds off. Good luck! -
Those In The Green Zone... Do You Eat Breakfast?
lawismylife replied to sylviau's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have coffee 7 am and usually want a shake or protein bar at 10 am. I am usually not hungry before then. I also don't want to have to concentrate on eating when I am rushing in the morning. I need a hot coffee to open me up in the am. -
Psychologist Appointment
lawismylife replied to AbbieL's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
They want to be sure you are of sound mind, know the consequences of your actions. That you are not a binger, abuse alcohol, etc. and need other psych help before getting a major life changing surgery. Most likely whatever eating issues you have all banders have had so don't worry about it. Be honest. -
Confused. Can Eat Anything And Nothing... Help!
lawismylife replied to SashaWLS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Ok here's the deal: I am almost banded 2 years. Some people are very right in the morning and can eat a truckload at night. My doc says to tighten to adjust to the nighttime volume. There are ways to deal with the morning. I drink a very hot coffee 7 am when I get up. This keeps me until 9:30/10 am. It opens up. The stoma. Apparently when you lay down your body fluids can settle in the band area and make it tighter. The hot liquid relaxes the muscle and lets it drain the Fluid. I choose "safe" Breakfast foods like a Protein shake or Protein Bar. If you are tight before a meal have a hot drink or Soup to prime the band. That's why you can have a bite of hamburger and be full, then plow through a bagel. Your band was not primed. Used to happen to me all the time. Bagels can also be slider foods as they are carbs. Try to avoid carbs and focus on protein by drinking hot first. Good luck! -

Slimed; What is it???
lawismylife replied to Patti.Ramsey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have a hot liquid to "prime" the band and you will not have as much of a tightness problem after not eating for a while. I eat at 10 am, 1 pm, then like 8 pm. For dinner I usually need to have a little broth or tea to start me off. -
Try the high protein oatmeal (quaker weight control) and make it very thin with milk for a change.

I had a stomach bug and I couldn't throw up. Just retched over and over and nothing. I had to wait for it to pass through my system. Was terrible

Omg What Did I Do?
lawismylife replied to aferreira14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The pre-op diet is not normal and very difficult. You have a regular stomach and you have to drink just a few shakes. Not fun. So you cheated. Just get back on track and get your liver in the best shape possible. The pre-op diet helps you to get your liver more solid and less fatty, which helps the surgeon place the band because he has to lift it to reach the stomach. However, each surgeon has their own protocol. Some say liquids 3 weeks prior. Some say a week or less (I had 5 days). My mother only had one day Clear Liquids and she definitely had a fatty liver and was ok. Do your best and be honest with your doctor as to how you cheated. You will likely be ok. Just try to give yourself the best chance for success from now on. -
I don't understand why you would even think of goin back to the same doctor if there is another dr to go to. Obviously you need a better working relationship with your doctor. Your doc is your partner in this process.

Fills done right don't hurt at all. Don't worry.
-
It depends what yur financial situation is like and how much your fills would cost with the band. Fills can be VERY expensive when done right. I have a doctor that just takes my insurance, and I have gotten a checkup once a month for the first year, and every 2-3 months on average the second year. If you are paying $200 each time for a fill, you may skimp on them. My last fill was only .05 cc's which made a big difference for me because I was in the green zone and every 5-7 lbs at this stage I need a slight tightening. If I were out of pocket maybe I would be cheaper about it and it would affect results. My husband plays games in terms of waiting too long for a fill, then overfills, then needs unfills. Not out of lack of resources but lack of diligence and that is a factor with the band - it is more up to the individual. Good luck to you.

Cons of sleeve (why I chose band): Stomach can be stretched over time and no adjustments can be made to it. I can go back to eating a lot if I choose to on a cruise (do I, no, but before surgery I wanted to know I could if I wanted to) No control over how much or little you can eat - band is more controlled Less potential complications. Also, losing slower is better or you and loose skin. Fast is worse. I like the idea of restriction. With sleeve its often too late to tell when you are stuffed - you can eat fast. With band you can tell you are getting there("soft stop").

207 Lbs Gone... 10 Lbs To Go
lawismylife replied to FLORIDAYS's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Incredible!!!!! Now you are stunning inside and out thanks for sharing! -
I don't have any appetite after Zumba for hours. Just don't want to eat. Maybe our insides swell from being active with heart pumping? Who knows. I just drink a lot of water.

And I am happy that some people here NEVER experience Unsupportive family members. The whole point of these forums is to have support. To bash someone for airing out their frustration over not having the support they need on an Internet forum when the point of it is for support is just ridiculous. So I am officially not soliciting comments from you and unsubscribing from this thread. Thanks again to all those who genuinely tried to support !!!
