  1. Hello, Purpleshell~ I would think one glass of wine would be fine as lond as it's not sparkling/bubbly. Vicky~ You did great eating out! Heather~ I think mushies are a little more advanced than pureed. Pureed should be blended with a blender, mushies are soft like scrambled eggs and soft cheese. Today is my last work day until January 3rd, YAHOO!! Have a good day, Joan
  2. Hello, Dave~ I had the stomach flu a week before surgery and was glad it was then and not after surgery! Glad you are better! Nate~ Things felt like that to me, too. I have had a bit of trouble now that I am moving ahead a bit with eating some bread type things I shouldn't. Dry, butter toast is fine. It's the doughy type bread I need to stay away from! I ate part of an Olive Garden bread stick yesterday, bad idea!! Tlawre2~ Lots of people have shown a weight GAIN after surgery due to the swelling and IV fluids causing Fluid retention. Don't worry about it! Today is my husband's and my 15 year anniversary! It will involve either eating out or bringing in (my choice since it's really yucky out). Take care, Joan
  3. Hello, I have been doing well with work and eating this week. I have had the pain like there's a plug stuck in my pouch, (OUCH!) and I think it's from me advancing my diet a bit too much. Try to walk around as much as possible to get the gas to go away. Be sure to sip all day lond and at night when you're awake. Glad to hear things are going well! My favorite mushie is good old scrambled eggs with melted cheese and red chile. (I live in New Mexico and we eat chile all the time!) Joan

    Vitamins

One a Day makes a small Vitamin, about the size of an ibuprofen tablet. It is called One a Day Essentials. I buy the store brand, Kroger, at Smith's. It has 100% of the RDA for the B Vitamins and Thiamine. Joan
  5. Hello, Did great on my first day back at work! When I got home I started eating some cottage cheese with tiny diced peaches. It formed a very painful plug. This has happened a few times with different foods. I immediately chew 2 TUMS and it stops. I also walk around, breathe deeply and relax.
  6. I tried to copy and paste a ticker but it didn't work.
  7. Hello, I hope everyone is well. I think taking the Gas X and moving around (walking) are the best things for the gas pains. Hi Vicky! I am glad you are at this new thread, too. Why did your surgeon put the port at your waist?! Hopefully it will feel much better as you continue to heal! My incision sites were closed inside with dissolving sutures and on the skin I have a plastic (dermabond?) glue that will fall off on it's own. So no dressings or sutures to be removed. I know different surgeons have their own preferences. Have a good Monday, I am back to work. Joan
  8. Hello, I am happy to have found you all! I had been chatting on the pre op site. I was banded on December 2nd and am doing great! I am glad that the majority of us are doing well. I go back to work on Monday, I am a school nurse. I'll work one week then I'll be off for two weeks, Yahoo! I am eating soft foods, eggs, canned chicken, cooked veggies... I have had a little toast with my eggs and tolerated it just fine. I have lost 7 pounds since surgery for a total of 14 pounds since I started my pre op diet on November 20th. I had surgery at 9:00 AM and was out the door for home at 11:30 AM! Have you tried the gas x tablets? They will probably help you out! Enjoy your weekend, Joan
  9. I think it's hard for me to NOT feel like I need to explain myself, what I am doing and why to other people. I know how you feel about people trying to talk you out of it. The bottom line, is it's not their choice, it's yours! You don't tell them what surgeries they should have! I am telling myself, (and you) that I don't need to explain and justify myself to them. If they don't agree, that's their choice, they don't need to have a band! But they will be singing a different tune when you are successful at losing and maintaining your weight and are healthy!! Joan
  10. The Jillian Michaels shakes fro Walmart are pretty good and meet the protein and carb requirements. Hang in there! I had a surprise hiatal hernia repair and have the usual incisions. Maybe the ventral repair caused them to need the extra incisions?! Yeah Jess! I am so happy it finally went through!!! I suggest you call the office and let them know how awful you feel. My preop diet was about 800 cal per day, 500 cal is insane! Hey, I'll turn 50 in March! Yeah us!! You will be fine! It is SO much easier and safer than childbirth (at least in my opinoin!) I felt worried, too. Even in the preop area a small part of me wanted to get up and run! But, I stayed, surgery went great, recovery has been easy and I am now one week postop. You can do this! Realize what a blessing this is! I had my one week post op appt. today and all is well. I am able to now eat soft foods, no beef or pork. This includes soft pinto beans and a cheese enchilada which I ate for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed! Have a great evening, Joan
  11. Hello, Heather~ I am now on full liquids and have 1-2 shakes a day plus other things. I agree that I just want some food! I got some bean with bacon soup last night and some lentil soup. I will blend them before I sip them. I don't want only the shakes. I had blended beef and barley soup last PM and blended chicken noodle for lunch. Gross looking yet tasty and satisfying! Vicky~ The other reason for the warm water first thing each AM is to prevent stomach spasms. Tomorrow is my one week post op check! Joan
  12. Hi, When I got really hungry during my preop diet I allowed myself to eat lean lunch meat. One day I had a slice of whole wheat toast. Hang in there! BTW, my surgeon said my liver looked great. I think lean proteins are OK to add if necessary, it's the carbs that need to be avoided. Joan
  13. Hi again, Vicky~ My post op directions said not to take metamucil, too bulky I guess. I plan to return to work on Monday, too. I am enjoying having this time to myself at home! Jess~ Hang in there! I hope you get the OK soon! Chocaltecity~ Any possible pregnancy news?! You had said the other the day that you might be? I am hungrier today which I guess means I am healing. Joan
  14. Hello, Vicky~ Have you been drinking warm water as your first drink of the day? My instructions say to start each morning with warm water t reduce mucous and to do this forever more. My instructions also say to take pepto for diarrhea. Have you taken anything for the diarrhea? Now my turn to share TMI! I have been without a BM since surgery until this AM. I took milk of magnesia the last two nights. When do you return to work? Joan
  15. Hello, Vicky, Renee and Sal~ So glad you all are doing well! I have been resting yet getting minor housework done (dishes, laundry). I went for a 30 minute walk yesterday and today. I am feeling good and the pain is minimal at this point. I had soup for dinner last PM that I pureed in my blender. Gross looking but tasty and nutritious! Good luck to this weeks bandsters! Joan
  16. Hello, Renee~ Wow, you're back at work?! What are you allowed to eat at this stage? Just keep sipping to get your fluids in. Sal~ So glad to hear things went well! I am now on a full liquid diet until my next appointment which is on Thursday. I have done fine with it. Farina cereal thinned with milk, apple sauce, protein shake, cottage cheese with pureed fruit. Wonderful after the 2 week preop diet and 2 day clear liquids following surgery! Christa~ What date is your surgery scheduled? Joan
  17. Hello, Vicky~ I am happy to hear that your surgery went well! I went to my first post op appointment this AM and everything is fine. I slept well last PM and walked quite a bit this AM, from the parking lot into the hospital and back. I am still on clear liquids until tomorrow when I'll advance to full liquids. Welcome to the new folks! Joan
  18. Hello, Well, I am an official bandster! I had my surgery this AM and was home by 12;30. I feel great and everything went perfectly. I asked how my liver looked and the anesthesiologist and surgeon said it looked thin and healthy. I had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time! I didn't even know I had a hiatal hernia and my surgeon didn't either. I have not had reflux or heartburn problems at all which are the usual symptoms! So hey, two surgeries for the price of one. I asked and received a bit of anti-nausea med in the recovery room which completely stopped my mild nausea. I did not vomit. My pain is minimal. I took liquid tylenol at 2 PM and 1/2 of a pain pill at 6PM. I am walking easily around the house, drinking plenty of Clear liquids and feel quite good! Sal~ You are in my prayers! Renee~ During the pre-op diet if I was STARVING I ate lean Protein, which is carb free. One day I felt really yucky and had one piece of ww toast. Hang in there! Hello to the new December bandsters!! Joan
  19. Hello, Just popping in to say hello, tomorrow is my surgery date! Keep me in your prayers! Joan
  20. Hello, Renee~ You are in my prayers. Check in and let us know how you are doing! I think we stay together as December bandsters and don't move to the post op section until January?! Sal~ You are in my prayers, too. Hang in there! I am wrapping up loose ends to be ready to go Thursday AM. My surgery is scheduled for 8:45. Joan
  21. Hello, Welcome to the new December bandsters! Ali~ I am doing nmy 2 week preop diet right now. It is challenging yet doable. Hang in there! I am counting down to Thursday! Yikes! Joan
  22. Hello, Judy~ I am scheduled for the 2nd, too! 4 days to go! I have lost 8 #'s on my preop diet. Joan

Cpap -- to use or not to use...

Renee, I have sleep apnea, too. I use the nasal pillows. They are MUCH more comfortable and less confining than the mask. The mask caused my skin to blister and that is how I found about the pillows. My brother, who also has sleep apnea, is using the nasal pillows and has adjusted to them well. He had tried the mask years ago and refused to wear it. He's been using the nasal pillows for 2 weeks and is comfortable. Ask your sleep clinic about the nasal pillows. Best of luck! Joan
  24. Hello, Jess~ I was a diet soda addict! I haven't had any in 8 days and I don't miss it. I have really enjoyed iced tea with lemon or a little Crystal Light. I am glad to hear you had a bit and had lost your taste for it. Vicky~ My date is the second also. I am in Albuquerque. I have lost 6# on the preop diet. I ate a Thanksgiving dinner but jumped right back to the preop diet yesterday. I am working on getting my house and Christmas shopping/decorating in order before my surgery date. Have a great day, Joan
