Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful that I won't have to cook this year. We're going to my sisters house and she is a great cook. I've only lost 45 lbs in two years, but that is more than I could have done alone.

My lap band doctor is a banded surgeon and is at his goal weight. (cinncinati weight loss) In his case he is a living advertisement for the band since he has done so well. The band shouldn't interfere with how you practice. It's not like the bypass where you have to be concerned about diarrhea interrupting your day. My husband is a doctor and has the bypass and that was a concern at first but he has worked through it. I think that if you lose weight it will inspire your patients to do the same. Good luck!

Frustrated..restriction in mornin hardly any..
annieM replied to Mariposa's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I sounds like you need a fill. Most people are tighter in the mornings, but you shouldn't be getting so hungry later. Congrats on your continuing weight loss! -
Myoplex is a good one too. I like the french vanilla in ready to drink cartons. GNC charges much more for them than target or the grocery store though.
-
I agree, call the doc. You may have a slip or an erosion and it need to be checked out.
-
Yes, call the doc. You may need a temporary unfill. Don't delay making the call, you could get very dehydrated very quickly.

Question for those who have had lap band
annieM replied to YellowLily's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
What an odd story. If she does have a lab band she will have 4-6 small scars on her belly. If she is as skinny as you say, those might be very hard to find. I think she probably does have one because otherwise how would she know about slipping and the other details and since she is thin she can just have it removed. If the slip is as bad as it sounds she would need surgery where they would unclip the band, put the slip back in place and re clip the band. A really bad slip won't fix itself. The docs in Mexico do a fine job installing the band, but proper care and follow-up after surgery is essential. If she wants to keep her band she needs to get in with a doc here who can follow her. I hope this helps. -
How long have you had your band and are you still happy?
annieM replied to Beka's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm two years out and recovering (i hope) from a slip. I lost 40 lbs and then stopped losing. Now I have to diet, and I am obviously not good at it. I know I would not have been able to lose anything without my band, so I guess I am "happy-ish" about it. -
I've been on two cruises after banding and didn't gain. All the fresh fruits really fill you up fast and the fresh air and sunshine leads you to not overeating. Not to mention the bathing suit thing.
-
I guess it depends on metabolism. The first 40 lbs came off and I give the band the credit. The next couple of years, no loss, and I take the blame. I need to count calories and exercise in order to lose now. (weell, I did lose when I had a slip and couldn't keep anything down for a month, but now that I am unfilled that weight is back with company...)
-
It sounds like you just need a tiny fill to get to your sweet spot. Watch the PB's though, so you don't get a slip like me.
-
By now you should have seen your doc. What did he think? You didn't mention how much time went by from your fill to being miserable. If it was a short time, I'd say it's too tight and take a bit of fluid out and if it was more than a few weeks, I'd suspect a slip and take all the fluid out to let your stomach rest. I am now doing the latter. (empty band after a slip) I am gaining weight, but no pain...
-
I have a slip after weeks of not being able to keep much of anything down. The stupid part was that i was finally starting to lose weight after being stuck at this weight for over a year, that i didn't go in for an un-fill. After a barium swallow showed the slip, i am un-filled, gaining weight and waiting for another barium swallow to see if my slip has corrected itself. In summary, my slip symptoms were: throwing up all food, stomach pain that made me want to throw up, and pain while eating even after the un-fill.

Hi, i just found your message. The doc said i have chrones disease and i am taking meds for that. The anemia seems to have resolved.
-
What kind of overeater are you? If you just don't know when to stop at meals and everyday is thanksgiving, the band will help a lot. If you sneak at candy, ice cream, and cookies but eat normal meals, don't bother with the band because it won't prevent you from sneaking sweets. Great job on your weight loss! good luck in whatever you decide...
-
I had to have a total unfill today. I had been not keeping anything down (pain and misery involved) for a couple months, BUT at least I was losing weight. I'm two years from banding and have only lost 48 lbs. Most of that was in the first few months and the last 10 were lost in these months of not keeping anything down. My surgeon scolded me for not coming in sooner. He warned me about slipping and then gave me the un-fill. The thing is, I'm really sad about it. I know myself from years (decades) of dieting and I don't buy this you can't lose weight in "starvation mode" crap. For me to lose weight I need to eat next to nothing. That ability has been taken away from me. Now I'll be dreading the scale and watching those numbers pile on again. I'm thinking I also need to take a break from LBT. If I read about another person whining about not losing after only a week of banding I think I'll scream. The band doesn't work for everyone.
-
Thank you for your reply Nancy. Why did you have your band removed? How far are you from your goal? I gained 2 lbs in one day after losing my fill. I hope that doesn't continue.

Not filled yet and struggling
annieM replied to jkend50035's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It sounds like you are ready for your first fill. It's great that you are exersizing and maintaining your weight. Some people even gained before their first fill, so you are ahead of the game. I was in a honeymoon period after banding so I lost, but I was also dieting. Once you get your fills underway you should start to see some steady weight loss. good luck -
i get dizzy when i'm dehydrated. Try pushing the fluids and see if that helps.

I think that McCain won. He was wise, informed and knew his foreign policy. Obama was a big mouth, slogan slinging INTERRUPTING idiot. Anyone with me? Jack?

Just getting stuck once shouldn't cause too much swelling. Try a yogurt later and see how that feels. Go slowly with your first bit of solid food. I don't think you need to resort to liquids. good luck and good job on being too busy to eat (just like a naturally thin person)
-
I just had 0.1cc taken out of my 4cc band yesterday. I hadn't been keeping any solid food down (and sometimes liquids would come up too) for about a month. Don't try that at home... Anyway, after having a tiny dinner that stayed with me, no pain, i gained 2 pounds! I'm so distressed. Not being able to keep anything down was great for my weight loss. I was losing the two pounds per week. Now that I can eat even the tiniest bit, I start to gain. I'm so frustrated! Talk about a slow loser...

Too funny Pam! Really though, here in Ohio we only get sloppy seconds of any tropical storms and Ike has knocked two good sized trees down in my yard. I have loads of sympathy for those of you who go through these big storms first hand. Good luck Texas!

So- Do You Sit Down and Eat Like The Rest of The Family?
annieM replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the same stuff, minus anything that would give me trouble, like bread. I give myself a salad plate instead of a dinner plate so my food doesn't look as small as it is. I also pass on the drink. Today I have been really thirsty so I had some ice cubes to suck on after dinner. -
So Does This Really Work For Food Addicts(experienced bandits please)
annieM replied to speck's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree, great post. I like the digging the hole analogy. I myself have hit a rock shelf... The band only helps me control how much I eat at meals. Eating in between meals is my problem and the band doesn't help at all with that. I have, after nearly two years of being banded, lost only lost 35 lbs and am back in the lose-one-gain-two cycle. I know it is all my fault. I'm addicted to sweets. The band is adjusted just fine, and is even a bit too tight at times. I don't regret getting the band, my blood pressure is down and I feel better than i did, but i am no where near my goal.
