    why????

Now that i'm halfway there it's been very slow, even if i exercise alot and eat the right food. I think i've lost around 11lbs in 3 months now that i'm halfway there. I'm not really impatient and in a hurry, i know that i eat alot less than pre-surgery and i'm exercising plenty(started jogging) so i know i'll eventually get there  I'm just so happy that the lap-band changed my lifestyle completely!
  2. I can't eat soy sprouts or bambu ,so i guess asian food is a no no for me :/ I also can't eat cauliflower and chicken if it's very dry. Anything else i can eat, some things a bit harder to go down than others. Oh and bread is very, very hard to go down and usually ends on a PB, so i stay away from it also.

    thanks She!

I just started running last week, but was silly and jumped right into a 5k(i thought it would be ok since i can't really run all the way, i walked also). Didn't get proper leg rest the next days and went to run and now here i am with torn ligaments in both knees! It's not so much the pain that's killing me, but the fact that i can't go out and exercise. I never thought i'd say i can't wait until i start running again(this time i'll try not to kill my knees).

    omg I jogged!!!!

That's fantastic! I started jogging outdoors yesterday as well! I've been training and preparing my body so i could start running and i did! It's such a victory! I'm sore as hell today but will be going back later in the day  Just have to be careful when it comes to injuries. I also have a back problem but my doctor said i could run as long as i stop when i feel pain in the back. So far so good!
  5. Well i don't know if i have gout but after reading this maybe i do! Ever since getting the surgery i can barely put my weight on my left foot when i wake up. It really hurts in the plant of the foot and it gets better throughout the day. I just thought it was another symptom of being overweight.
  6. I have a question for all the runners. Recently i have been upping my exercise and feeling great, i'm feeling full of energy and i'm actually enjoying my workouts. But once i get out there i start wanting to do more and more, but the thing is i got a herniated disc since i was 16 and i was told not to do any type of exercise besides swimming or walking. Last year the herniated disc popped out again and i had to stop any exercise for around 6 months. Now it has healed but my left leg is still a bit weak(i am hoping it will get better in time). At the moment i am biking 30 minutes a day(it's a bike for people with back problems), doing some weight lifting for my arms and walking for 40 minutes to 1 hour 3 times a week. Now my question is, when you were heavier did it feel like running would do you bad? Should i risk it and run?Because i really feel like running but i'm very scared of my herniated disc. I've been thinking about starting to run once i am able to walk the entire 40 minutes at a very fast speed. This should build some endurance to the muscles of my back and stomach before i start the running. Advice would be great, thank you!
  7. I've only had one episode of this since being banded. I ran to the bathroom because i knew i was about to vomit, started getting very weak and dizzy like i was about to faint, and all of a sudden i had these huge hiccups, very strong ones(i believe these were vomits) but nothing came out. It was instant relief though, i no longer felt nauseated or like i was about to faint. It was all very weird and i hope it never happens again.

How do you handle an 8 month plateau?

I was at a plateau for a year but ever since i upped my exercise, and by that i mean doing half an hour more than i used to, the weight is starting to come off :3 If you haven't found proper restriction it's better to go for another fill, no?

    Eating slow...

I find that if i eat next to my family(and thus see them eating fast) i tend to try and eat fast also for some reason. So usually i just sat in the sofa watching something on tv and that helped me relax and eat very slowly. I believe that as time passes a person gets used to eating slow all the time, without even needing to think about it.Now i eat with my family and don't have that problem(maybe sometimes, but i get back to normal pace quickly) I know that after 3 years i rarely have trouble with eating too fast.

    Liquid Diet = Stupid!! Why????

They just told me not to eat or drink anything the night prior to the surgery, that's it.

Pain at left rib cage area

Well i started having that pain after my first fill. That particular fill was very hard, the doctor was a bit rough and i ended up all bruised. I continued having that pain at the end of my left ribcage, it was really hard to breathe at some point. When i went to the doctor to get it checked, he said that my port had migrated to under the ribcage and was irritating the pleura, only way to get it fixed was by having a small surgery to place the port back in place. After 2 years the port hasn't moved and i feel no pain.

Coffee good/ bad effects on banded

My surgeon didn't mention anything about not being able to drink coffee. However i feel a bit stomach sick after drinking one cup or more and thus decided to stop. I have to mention though that it was milk with a bit of coffee and that alone already made me feel sick, so yeah i stay away.
  14. I've had a really bad one,but that's because i went there for lunch and i usually can hardly eat anything solid then. That time i kinda had to run to the bathroom with the food in my mouth...yuck. A few times i've had a spit out but that got fixed with a couple of napkins . Nowadays i always try to pick food that i know will go down. It's a pity because i liked trying out new things ._.

    Full feeling

To be honest, after 3 years i kinda lost my track. As time passed by the feeling of fullness didn't come, i always waited for the "Thanksgiving meal type of fullness" and that only comes after i eat a full plate of food. Now that i've stopped eating when food starts getting harder to go down ( a feeling that it will get stuck if you shove more food down) i haven't PB'ed at all. I also feel quite satisfied without feeling like i ate a brick or something. So yeah, i think these signs are different for everyone. After 3 years i finally found out when i should stop eating. You kinda have to put a lap-band in your brain also ; It feels so odd to eat so little doesn't it?

    Hoping for help

I, like most people with the lapband feel more restricted during the Am and lunch time, and then when dinner time comes i can eat better but not a great ammount. It seems that now you have a more decent restriction. Have you tried eating liquids or mushies for lunch only? I usually only have tea for breakfast and a Soup and a cracker for lunch, that way i don't have any episodes of PB'ing. Then at dinner i eat some solid food.

    Hot tea is WONDERFUL!

Tea just has a soothing effect on me. Whenever i feel nauseated, or that tight feeling in the morning i just drink some hot tea and it feels so much better afterwards.
  18. It happened to me one awhile ago. I was spacing out and for a moment forgot i had a lap-band and drank juice really fast even though i was kinda "stuck". I PB'ed so much juice, burped, i don't know it was so nasty i thought my stomach blew up. Needless to say i don't space out anymore when i drink

    Port Replacement with a local?

I did it under local. It was quite unconfortable because of all the pulling and it being done in your belly like that. I actually felt alot of pain because my port had migrated to the pleura. But if you are just having it replaced it might not be that painfull. If it is don't be shy and ask for more anesthesia XD

    People can be so mean!

Yes they are very mean. I still remember a few months after i had a surgery, i was trying to exercise and take longs walks by the beach and some group of 13 year old passed by me and one of them said: "If i was that fat i would be embarassed of myself, i would never leave the house. Aren't you ashamed of yourself"? I preety much felt like dying, especially because i was outside to try and lose weight and i was happy i was being able to with my lapband.
  21. Hello all! I've been banded for 26 months now but i've only lost 26kgs/57.2 lbs on the 1st year and on the second year i just stopped losing. I had a big change in my life(moved from my home country to another) so i kinda went into a depression and ate alot of junk food hehe. I even gained 6 kgs/13.2 lbs, but if i didn't have the lap-band i'm sure i would have gained 20 kgs/44 lbs or so. Anyway i just decided to post because after i found these forums i became so inspired again. I am finally eating right and doing exercise 5 times a week. So i'd like to thank everyone here for being such a great inspiration. *bows* :clap2: Now i need to lose those 6 kgs/13.2 lbs and keep going!
  22. When i had to do revision surgery to my port, i did it with only local anesthesia so i still remember how horrid the tweaser felt inside my belly and against the flesh. After that i kept having nightmares about the tweasers and belly getting cut x_x It was horrible! Sometimes i do get nightmares that i had complications with the lapband and that i need to have it removed.
  23. My doctor said that one of the things that was absolutely forbidden was drinks with gas. Of course i am a curious person and sipped a bit but it feels really bad. My stomach actually feels bloated so i stopped drinking coke. I thought it would be hard because i was such a coke addict but i don't miss it at all. I love iced tea now
