This should answer all your questions!!! 30 Things You Need to Know About The South BeacH The South Beach Diet -- despite sometimes being referred to as one -- is in fact not a low-carb diet plan. The South Beach Diet is based on eating the right carbohydrates (i.e. "good carbs") and fats. Eventually, you will be satisfied without eating the carbs you normally do, as your body adjusts to the good carbs you are eating. It is completely acceptable and recommended on The South Beach Diet to eat until you are fully satisfied. The first two weeks of The South Beach Diet are called Phase 1. Phase 1 is the strictest part of The South Beach Diet and provides the fewest allowable foods as compared to the other two Phases. The purpose of Phase 1 of The South Beach Diet is to adjust the way your body reacts to sugar and starches. You will lose the most weight during Phase 1 (up to 14 pounds), especially belly fat. During Phase 1 you will not be eating bread, rice, potatoes or Pasta. The first few days of Phase 1 are the most difficult part of this diet. Baked goods, sweets, and fruits are completely off-limits during Phase 1 as well. Alcohol of any kind is not allowed during Phase 1. During these two weeks you'll be eating high-fiber foods such as vegetables and salads, as well as fish, meat, chicken, eggs, non-fat yogurt, low-fat cheese, and nuts. The South Beach Diet allows you six meals a day: three main meals, two Snacks, and one dessert. You'll find a variety of recipes in the book, such as Marinated Flank Steak, but you don't have to cook to follow the plan. The science behind this diet is the Glycemic Index, which measures how a food impacts your blood sugar. Since salads and vegetables are naturally low on the Glycemic Index, you can consume virtually unlimited amounts of them on this plan. After Phase 1, those powerful cravings for candy, baked goods and "bad carbs" like white bread will be a thing of the past. Eventually, you can eat anything you want and still be considered on the program. If you feel hungry during Phase 1, increase the amounts of allowable foods you are eating.<SCRIPT>zSB(3,3)</SCRIPT> Eliminating "bad carbs" from your diet is a way for this diet to give your bloodstream a fresh start, free of those insulin-spiking starches and sweets. You can quell your sweet tooth: sugar-free Gelatin such as pre-packaged sugar-free Jello cups are an easy and recommended dessert during Phase 1. Dr. Agatston provides recipes for a number of Phase 1 Desserts that use reduced-fat ricotta cheese. (This really curbed my appetite, so I ate it as a Breakfast and evening snack most of the time) Obese individuals may choose to stay on Phase 1 for longer than two weeks. Most people should advance to Phase 2 after two weeks to prevent getting burned out. Phase 2 is much more liberal than Phase 1. You will return previously "forbidden" foods such as whole grain breads, fruits, and sweet potatoes back into your diet (albeit a little bit at a time) during Phase 2. Weight loss will slow down significantly during Phase 2. Phase 3 is the maintenance Phase of The South Beach Diet. You can add any foods you wish unless you find that you are gaining weight. You can start over in Phase 1 again if you see you are gaining weight during Phase 3. You can start over in Phase 1 again if you see you are gaining weight during Phase 3. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

-
I weighed this morning because we all know that we weigh heavier at nigt and I lost 2 MORE POUNDS!!!:clap2: I know I will fluctuate and maybe regain a couple, but I have NEVER had such success in my entire life!!!!! I am happy that Dr. Ortiz cuts out the mushy stage, since that is when he says people tend to gain some weight, then start to lose when they go on solids!!! I start solids tomorrow!!!! I am going to try to have an egg for breakfast! How are we all doing?????????????
-
I love that!!! I think I will take that suggestion too!!! We would have a blast! Only I will designate Sunday after church since it is our family day. I have been so much happier lately. My husband and kids all notice it. They have a fun mommy, the grumpy one is gone!:clap2:

Thoughts and Prayers for Marz88 and family
BabyGotBack replied to kim2bhealthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am also a believer and will keep the marz88 family in my prayers, For a peace that passes all understanding. In these times, that are such tradgedies, only the confort of the arms of the Lord will do. -
Hi! How are you feeling?? What kind of post op diet are you on? Welcome!

THAT IS AWESOME!!!! What a motivator!!! I missed you!!! I am glad you are back!
-
I also tried to buy all the food I'd need for myself and convenience foods for my family for 3 weeks!
-
I only used the Gas X strips!! That gas trapped in the chest sucked!!! I hated it!
-
The one I used and I must say is SOOOOO good, is Anderson's Split Pea.It has no chunks and is completely smooth!!! I ate it everyday as I tend to eat one food too death, till I get sick of it!!! I need to work on variety! That was my confort food for over a week!

One more day to go!!! I get to start solids tomorrow!!! Ruben made me weigh myself since he said I looked so much thinner. Well, I started at 190, the day of surgery was 186. Last night I was 175 and this morning I was 173!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: So, for a total loss of 17 pounds!!! How's that for a lower bmi bandster!!! I am also taking Quick Slim 30 which is supposed to assist with weight loss on top of suppressing the appetite. It stimulates the metabolism, so even if I was eating such low calories, I know it helped! I feel really good! I am on my way! And tomorrow I start the South Beach Challenge! So, as far as tools go, I am utilizing my band as best I can even if I don't feel the restriction like I did in the beginning, I am utilizing the QuickSlim 30 as a tool and the South Beach diet as a tool! I see the more tools I can combine the better. So, next is the working out tool!!! I get my clearance to work out tomorrow so I will do my elyptical or Salsa dance tape! This is what I have had today: Breakfast: 1 cup soy capuchino; 70 cal. 7 grams of protein, Carnation good start breakfast; 130 calories, 5 grms of protein; Gano Mocha coffee 108 calories. Total for breakfast=308 calories and 12 grams of protein Liquids: Drank 20 ounces of crystal light taking the kids to school Supplements: 1 tbsp. Glacial Milk liquid vitamin and 1 QuickSlim 30

Well, I am going to post my menu daily, calories, protien, Water, supplements, exercise, mood, etc. Not everyone has to do it daily if they don't want to. Some people may want to check in every few days or once a week. I will have a place to keep track of everyone's weight loss too. I think I will measure myself 1 every two weeks or so. I finally weighed myself. My husband really wanted to know! I started pre op at 190, surgery date at 186 and tonight I am 175!!!! 15 pounds in 4 weeks!!! I wonder if I will weigh less in the morning??? Here I go with the scale!!!:faint:
-
Okay girls! My husband was dying to know how much I lost since he says I look a lot thinner. I started pre op at 190, surgery date at 186 and tonight after eating and drinking all day, I weigh 175!!! I didn't want to weigh because don't we weigh more at night? I can't wait to see how much I weigh in the morning!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: So, from my pre op I lost 15 pounds in 4 weeks!!! I am doing the happy dance!
-
I think I read egg drop soup and hot and sour without the chunks were okay?
-
He was dying to know too because he says that I look so much thinner. I told him no because don't we weigh more at night??? He told me he wouldn't tell me unless it was really good. I got on the scale 4 different times and.................. I started my pre op diet at 190, went down to 186 surgery day and tonight I am 175!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: So, does that mean in the morning I will be less!! I just ate and had a bunch of water too!!! I just thought I'd let you know! Thanks BikerGirl for the suggestion!!!

I am like you, I love HUGE portions! Thank God the band has taken care of that. I don't have a fill but I can only eat 1 cup of liquid/puree at a time. It sounds like the Nutra System foods are more like mushies. You will do good being on NutraSystem. You may be like me. I feel better having some type of structured program, not a restrictive one though. I like guidelines or else I tend to lose control.
-
