When Can I Go To The Gym
1shauna1 replied to iriegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't push it....as mentioned you're still healing! Check with your doc as to when you can go back and what you can do. -
Just make sure you have your doc's approval before you start working out hard as you're only a month out! Your fill is soon, that will probably make a big difference!

First Real Meal Since My Surgery...
1shauna1 replied to tammyg1969's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard until you have a fill as you're still just relying on your willpower which many of us struggled with before this surgery (and wouldn't have needed the surgery if we had strong willpower!). Don't beat yourself up over it. Eat the rest of the time as you're supposed to and I'm sure this one meal won't derail you! -
I would say it depends how long it's been since that fill. Sometimes it takes my band a few days to catch up to the fill. But if it's been a while, then maybe you need another fill. I wouldn't compare yourself to others and where they are with fills, because every one is different. I can't see to get past 5 cc in a 10 cc band, but others have the larger one and are filled even more.

Spinach Wraps...or Any Wrap For That Matter
1shauna1 replied to phatkatblue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It depends on the time of day (before noon, it's out), and the type of day I'M having, but I'd usually say no to wraps. At least, the large ones that have to be folded over several times. If the wrap gets too layered, it becomes thicker. I think you have to try (carefully) and see. I was not told NOT to eat wraps, this is just what I've experienced. -
You gotta just keep those sliders out of the house! I know how hard it is believe me (have been there when being too tight and just trying to eat something....ice cream is amazing!). Maybe you should go back and see your doc too?
-
I still occasionally have a diet coke, but have usually switched to iced tea or water when out. I don't think I was told no pop ever...but the carbonation can be uncomfortable. It depends on the type of day I'm having.

When I'm "sick" it's always a PB (above the band). I was vomiting once from actually being sick, and man that sucked. I wanted to vomit but because of the band, it was very difficult. The band makes a very small opening for anything to actually come back up through, and I was doing a lot of dry heaving. Eventually I was able to....and luckily haven't had any stomach issues since.

I felt sick (nauseous) once but it was because I was too tight. I think once you get used to them they will be better. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I Dont Know What To Do Anymore
1shauna1 replied to dubsteppsycho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't really think about another surgery, but I liked the fact my anatomy was still intact. I can't say I'm 100% happy with the band as I haven't been able to find a green zone and am up and down with fills. However I know if I didn't have the surgery I"d probably be heavier than when I started, so I'm happy that way. I wanted to be one of the few that never PBs....but I do a lot! After the first couple of times, honestly it's no big deal. -
I am stuck frequently. Can't say if it's dangerous, but I'm fine....when I've been too tight after a fill I've been PBing several times a day (hence, unfills). It's just an unpleasant reminder to follow our rules more strictly!

Probably Common Sense...but My 1St Fill Experience
1shauna1 replied to ev1988's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm surprised they let you leave without drinking water in the office? Definitely bring water with you and wait for 15 minutes in the office after your fill. Drink some; I would say medium sized sips. You will know then if you're too tight. I remember after one fill, I had some water and was immediately feeling nauseous and like I was going to throw up. Too tight! They took some fluid out right there. -
I think it's pretty normal. You're probably still on liquids, right? So, really you haven't been eating anything. Also as mentioned, sometimes pain meds can stop you up. I think prune juice is good to try; if not then maybe try to the milk of magnesia.

I usually just have coffee when I get up, and have to wait a couple of hours before trying solids (but that's just me). You could try warming up a protein shake to drink, I've had that suggested to me also.

How Do You Know When You Need A Fill?
1shauna1 replied to kdalesandro7733's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This is good advice! You've done really great so far, so don't stress too much. I would say if you can eat more than you're supposed to, you may need a fill. From the amount you've been able to lose without one, I would be cautious and start with a small fill. You could be one of the lucky people who don't really need many to get to the green zone. Good luck! -
Need Your Advice To Figure This Out...
1shauna1 replied to Maddy1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Restriction is NOT being afraid to swallow food, it's just what the word means. You are restricted to eating smaller amounts (and yes, what you were told is right, 1 cup four times per day or thereabouts). I am always looser in the evenings. Mornings I can't really eat, and as the day goes on, I seem to loosen up. However, this is just me. I have always been this way. I have had several de-fills and fills, trying to find the right levels. it sounds like you're still not at your optimal level of restriction. Just try to hang in there, eat as you're supposed to (and it'll be a lot of willpower still now) and go for your next fill when your doc has it scheduled. As long as the scale keeps going down, you're golden! -
I am still not in my green zone and it seems to be hard to find it....I have 4.75 cc in a 10 cc band, but that was after my third de-fill taking out .25 cc. I was really tight there, and seem to be soooo loose in the evenings now.

Manybeards - good, follow your surgeon's advice! As for the OP, as mentioned you would certain know if you were stuck (I have been stuck on a pill before....yuck that was awful coming back up!). I would say crush them up though until you're onto at least your mushy food stage.

Had Lap Band Surgery 15 Days Ago
1shauna1 replied to endaann's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I wouldn't worry about the weight gain; obviously your body is trying to heal right now. I'm sorry you're going through this, it sounds awful. Just from what you're describing (and of course I'm no expert or doctor) you aren't drinking enough and it seems like you may need to stay with the clear liquids (water, broth) for longer than usual. Keep in touch with your doctors as they will be the best to help you! -
What Does It Feel Like To Get Food "stuck"??
1shauna1 replied to ktlynn447's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel this immense pressure in my lower chest (upper stomach?). It pulses sometimes with the contractions of your stoma trying to work the food through. Believe me you will know when you eat too fast/too much and you are becoming stuck. Often you can head it off you really pay attention and stop eating after the first warnings.....but ultimately if (when) you do get stuck you will get through it! (although the first time I was stuck I thought I was going to die....lol but now when I get stuck I just bend over and cough and it comes up). -
A Month And Half Post-Op, I Need A Guide
1shauna1 replied to TiffanySeacrest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It wasn't you! Sorry if it came off that way! There was a post before yours....seeming to push a program. It seems to be gone now....your advice was good! -
It seems every one is different with their fills! It could be right now your port is deeper, so when you go back in August (seems a long time away to me though?) it may be easier because you'll be slimmer and the port will be closer to the skin. My fills are always easy; they just put the needle in and inject it. I'm not sure if there are over the counter numbing creams? If so you could use some before your next fill, or maybe take a Tylenol? Hope it's better for you!

Congratulations! Good for you!

A Month And Half Post-Op, I Need A Guide
1shauna1 replied to TiffanySeacrest's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can give you some FREE advice Are you not able to get any guidance from your doc? If not there are lots of people here willing to help. I am guessing by now you are on solids? You should eat 1/2 to one cup per meal (trying to keep your calories around 1000 to 1200 a day). Eat 3-4 oz Protein first, then some veggies, then you can have a bit of carbs. It is a little trial and error as to what may be more difficult to eat. But make sure you CHEW everything really well. Rest between bites, and don't drink with meals. Don't worry if you haven't lost much since your surgery. That time after is a healing time, and many people maintain or even gain a bit. You will get there! You probably don't have any restriction yet either, so you're going to have to rely on willpower for now (sucks, I know!) until you get your first fill. Do you have an appointment for that yet? If not, give your doc a call and set that up as sometimes it can take a while to get in depending on your doctor and how busy they are. Most of all, don't despair! There are TONS of FREE resources here. Message me if I can help you more. Good luck!
