First off...Good Luck to all you that are going in this week for surgery. I went in for a post-op check today, and they did an unfill. Seems that not being able to "eat" yogurt and liquid Soup is not normal. I guess I'm having a duh moment. The unfill wasn't bad, and I go back on the 23rd for a fill. Get to start eating mushy foods today, and I can't wait to chow down on some tunafish. Never thought that tunafish would sound so good. I have lost 11 pounds in the last 2 weeks, so I'm not complaining.

Driving restrictions?
tylee72198 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can drive 24 hours after being off all pain meds. -
Depends on your insurance. I have Tricare, so my timeline was quick. Met the surgeon on June 17. Got approval from Tricare on June 22. Met with the nutritionist and counselor on June 30. Had surgery August 2. My head is still spinning on how quickly things happened. Would have had surgery sooner, but Tricare only allowed surgery at 1 surgery center where my doctor only gets 1 surgery day a month.

What is your favorite non carbonated beverage?
tylee72198 replied to ladybug on a mission's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Crystal Light's pomegranate lemonade is so good, and I'm not a fan of artificial sweetners of any kind. -
I'm having issues with getting my energy levels back. Don't think I'm getting enough protein. Need some ideas on how to up my protein levels doing the post-op full liquid.

Need some help with pre-op diet
tylee72198 replied to Almica88's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are going to end up with a million different answers because all doctors require different types of pre-op diets. Mine was 2 Protein shakes (allowed to have 3 because I'm tall) and Soup for dinner. It was any type of soup as long as it wasn't high in calories, fat, or carbs. I was allowed to have yogurt, sugar free popsicles, and cottage cheese. -
Had surgery on Monday. Monday I would say the pain was around 5. The incisions hurt and the gas pain wasn't pleasant. Tuesday was around a 4. Wednesday and Thursday I managed to not take any pain meds at all until bed time. Moving makes the incisions hurt. Got up this morning, and I only have a twinge ever once in a while at the incision site. Now, I did notice that I was over doing it (4 kids and was trying to do laundry), I started hurting. Decided that maybe I should just try and relax. Over all though it wasn't any worse than the tubal I had done in December.

What are you most looking forward to after banding?
tylee72198 replied to spoiltmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In all seriousness though, I can't wait to ride on rollercoasters again. Looking forward to the Seabee Ball in April, and knowing that I'm going to be looking good in a formal dress. Playing with my kids without getting tired. -

Right now, I'm looking forward to a pickle. -
Afternoons were hard for me during the pre-op diet. That is why I switched my protein shakes to lunch and afternoon. They would fill me up enough to tide me over to supper. Yogurt, cottage cheese, and popsicles seemed to work for me.

Can you have cottage cheese or yogurt?

Stitches, Staples or Glue?
tylee72198 replied to merrywait's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stitches on the inside that dissolve and glue on the outside. -
Water (room temp), juice (usually have 1 glass a day) don't want to waste empty calories, and crystal light. I've had a couple of protein drinks also, since I was able to go to full liquids on day 3.

Surgery Friday and I'm terrified of the pain/pain meds...
tylee72198 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the liquid Loratab (hydrocodone), and I had surgery on Monday. The worst of the pain is the gas pain or if you hit your port site. I'm on day 3 of post-op, and I've already switched to children's liquid motrin. That seems to be all that I'm needing right now. Praying that you will have a quick recovery. Make sure that you walk, walk, and walk some more after surgery. That will help you the most with the gas pain. -
Also wanted to say that I actually cried when they woke me up after surgery, and I asked the nurse if it was done. She said yes, and the tears started. It was such a huge relief. I don't ever plan on going back to my start weight ever. It is going to be a huge number in my rearview mirror as I get smaller and smaller.

Day 3 after surgery, and I'm feeling good. Day of and the day after weren't so great. The gas pain is the worst. When they tell you to walk, walk, and then walk some more they mean it. It really does help. My stomach is still sore where the port site is, but otherwise I'm feeling good. I don't have any gas pain, and I get to start on a full liquid diet as of today. Good thing has been that I haven't been hungry at all. I just opened up some applesauce, and I could only eat about a 1/3 of it before I was already feeling full.

I was banded today. Pain on a scale of 1 - 10 is about a 3 or 4. Pain meds don't touch the gas bubble pain which is what is the worse. I'm having a very hard time trying to stay hydrated. It took 2 nurses and 4 sticks to get the IV in, and the heprin shot burned like the dickens.

I cheated! Please help! :(
tylee72198 replied to vflores919's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it makes you feel any better, I was banded today. I also did a 2 week liquid diet, but I was allowed to eat Soup for supper. I hate soup with a passion. On Wednesday, I ate 2 tacos. I checked the carb info on them to see if it would be okay to eat. The doctor told me my liver was perfect. It was nice and small, and he could tell I had done good on the diet. I have a high BMI, and I was worried about it. Just make sure that you get back on track now, and watch what you eat. -
Tomorrow is surgery day for me too. I'm very excited and nervous. Told the people in my Sunday school class, and I was happily surprised by all of the support. Hubby was told that he has to keep his Facebook updated tomorrow with surgery progress. That other wise they would hunt him down. Had a few wives tell me that I was an inspiration, and that I have made them want to lose weight too. That made me feel fantastic. I've lost 15 pounds (haven't weighed today) since I started the pre-op diet 2 weeks ago, but still worried that the doctor will get in there and my liver hasn't shrunk enough.
-
Yea! I'm ready to join the banded club. Monday can't get here soon enough.

The next time my husband comes home from a deployment, that he will be able to pick me up and swing me around.

To be able to ride the rides at an amusement park. I love rollercoasters, and I haven't been able to ride one in 9 years.

I switched up when I drink my Protein shakes. I'm never hungry in the mornings, but I know that I have to have something to eat. That is when I eat a yogurt or some cottage cheese. Then I have a shake for lunch around noon and another one around 3 or 4. Then I can have Soup for supper. When I feel like I'm getting hungry, I will grab a sugar free popsicle. I've found that doing my liquid diet this way has kept the hunger at bay. I also drink so much Water, that I feel like I'm going to float away at times.

Tricare...friend or foe?
tylee72198 replied to d1marie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have Tricare Prime South, and I was approved within 1 day of the surgeons submitting it. I was actually shocked I got approval that fast. I have high blood pressure and am pre-diabetic. From what I could figure for the 200%, you take the ideal weight and multiply it by 2. That should give you the 200% number. If you are over that, then you are over 200%.
