No support, Traveling to Mexico, alone...
hbrhonda replied to Marie1120's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Mexico twice for surgery and never felt alone. It is very safe. You will be taken care of better than in the US. -
People are starting to ask me
hbrhonda replied to 4u2nvyme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am envious. I am 6 weeks out and not has soul has noticed. Even the girls at the bank. I went from a size 16 to a 12. You think I would get a compliment or something. I think I am gonna get my hair cut, that always draws comments. What I am most excited about is Cancun in December. My favorite Aunt is going with me. I was 215 the last time I saw her the day before surgery. I will see her again in December. She doesn't know about my surgery. My goal is to have a beach body by then. -
Spouse unable to deal with changes
hbrhonda posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't even know where to begin. My husband is not being supportive. He is grieving the loss of my stomach. He feels like our life as we knew it has ended. Apparently, we ate out a lot and drank a lot, so now he feels we have NOTHING to do. We sit and watch TV thats basically it. Every time I suggest something he shoots it down. Its making me crazy. We have been fighting non-stop all week and I see no end to his issues. I dont know if he is jealous, fearful or is just being selfish. 1) He is upset that I dont cook. I made spaghetti and BBQ chicken this week which I ate none of. There were plenty of leftovers. 2) I have been out to dinner with him 3 times since surgery and I watched him eat <BORING> 3) Last summer we did concert in the park and brought a picnic and wine. This time I packed the picnic minus the wine and he just sat there and stared off into space and played on his phone the entire concert. I felt so lonely. 4) He wants to go to Vegas next week and I hate to be a downer but realistically that means buffets, drinking & wasting money. We used to frequent Vegas a lot so now I am wondering. Did our life change too much? So basically what I am asking. What do couples do if they are not going out to dinner or drinking? -
I was told to stay out because of bacteria until my incisions were completely healed at 4 weeks.

Un-filling the band before revision surgery?
hbrhonda replied to lolarose13's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had my fluid out 3 weeks before my revision so my stomach would go back a little more and because my surgeon wanted to do a endoscopy before my revision. Had it all done in one surgery and everything is great one month post op -

Spouse unable to deal with changes

UPDATE: We stopped in Vegas on our way to Utah to go riding. Didn't drink alcohol because we still had driving to do. We had an amazing time. He laughs at my portion size. We did eat out just about everyday. We chose his meal together from the healthier options, then he allowed me to take my share. Commenting along the way that he won't ever miss 2 oz of his meal. I think the biggest part of my dilemma was I thought he wanted to lose weight with me and I was supper frustrated that he wasn't willing to change. I am coping much better with the advice that I chose this surgery, My life will forever be changed. He didn't have this surgery so he doesn't have to tool. I was getting all stressed out trying to help him eat healthy, reminding him to not drink. SCREW that!! He is a big boy, if he wants things to stay that way, why should it stress me out. I now say "I am heading to the gym" and off I go. If he tags along fine, if he watches TV fine. Eventually he may get on board but for now it looks like life as usual at least for him. I am down 30 lbs!!!! -

Thanks for the great advice. Maybe this is all just too much for him to take in. I will bring wine for him to the park Thursday and be his DD. He does have a physically demanding job being a roofing contractor. For the past week I have been taking it easy (being 3 weeks post op) and waiting for him to get home to walk together. Which doesn't seem to go over so well. Today I am gonna go to the gym while he is at work. Maybe I can do some things so he doesn't feel like HIS life isn't going down the tubes. Problem with cooking is its just the two of us. I always make everything from scratch that takes about an hour. Who wants to slave over the stove for an hour? Not me right now. I do have some cook books: 30 minutes or less, 5 ingredients or less, Crockpot meals... May be time to drag those out. -

Well originally he wanted to get sleeve surgery with me. He is 40 lbs over weight. He also is a quick loser if he pays attention to what he puts in his body. He is in construction and some days when he works hard loses 5 lbs or consumes 3000-4000 calories a day. So I asked him to wait on the surgery to see how my healing progresses. I really dont think sleeve would be a good option for him. Also, we made a pact not to go out to dinner and quit drinking to facilitate his weight loss to hopefully prevent him from having to get some sort of surgery. Thats where all the changing habits come from. Not really me being controlling. -
Researching doctors in Mexico

I used Dr Ariel Ortiz for my LapBand in 2010. He is amazing. I have seen him on TV 3 times since my LapBand. On the Doctors, on Oprah and Dateline. I follow him on FB. He has been doing live surgeries for the last month. OCC is amazing with follow up, nutrition and their WLS forum. That being said. I couldn't afford to use him for my sleeve revision last month. He was almost $4000 more than DR Fernando Garcia. I had my sleeve done at CER surgery center. I was very happy with my care and hospital stay. BUT if I had deep pockets I would choose OCC Dr Ortiz. He is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
First Time Out Drinking
hbrhonda replied to TYRey12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no soda EVER. Take a balloon put it over a soda bottle and give it a little jiggle. Do you want your new sleeve all stretched out? That being said, my first drink at 6 months will be a pina colada -
Are you eating real food? By now you should be tapering off shakes
-
Why did you have it so long? I had mine 2 days. When they took mine out I cussed out loud. Way more discomfort and weirdness than I expected.

I feel like I can hold too much..
hbrhonda replied to Mjohnson4631's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Make an effort to measure your foods anyways, even slider foods. Your new tummy is still healing. My favorite new thing is 5 oz dixie cups not quite full. I drink water, zero gatorade, protein shake, and put yogurt, measure out soup. Then Voila toss them out!! -
Vitamins/Supplements?
hbrhonda replied to LACRACRA2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I bought Barimelts and I get sick, dizzy and the aren't that good either. -
OK I have to chime in. Most Mexican surgeons recommend no protein for the first week. Only broths and clear sugar free clear fluids, second week add protein shakes and creamy soups, third week add mushy foods, fourth week chicken and fish as tolerated. I did feel as though I was STARVING the first week. I read on this forum US doctors were allowing protein shakes the first week. So at night I would mix 2oz shake with 2oz water and tolerated it well (at day 5) and I didn't die. LOL It sucks that some people feel like they are starving. I think those patients need to call their NUT right away. There are no hard fast rules. Its what your body can tolerate within reason without using food too soon.

Look what's on the Premier Protein website!

Also now on their site FREE sample. https://www.premierproteinpromos.com/sharegoodenergygiveaway -
Your stomach actually massages the food to break it down. You dont want any solids in there. It could damage the incision. PLUS Pasta, should be on your no no list till you are at goal.
