Sometimes you feel like a band; sometimes you don't
Ashly replied to Gardnergirl2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I feel the same way! I've had my band since November 2010 and have definitely fallen off the wagon after having my son in August. I've lost a total of 100lbs but now I'm stuck. I actually went in and found out i had stretched my pouch out and they needed to remove fluid so it would go back down. Now I'm at 7 cc instead of 8 cc and still don't feel anything. My doctor said you have to go back to the basics to feel it again. No liquids while you eat (so hard!) And take time eating your food. Also no slider foods and eat 3 meals a day with no snacking in between. It's hard to get back to the basics -
I drink HumaPro from ALR Industries and i mix their Chain'd Reaction with it most of the time. The HumaPro has no sugar at all, it is 28 grams of protein with one scoop, it doesn't have whey protein or soy protein so you don't get gassy or bloated and you don't get all the other bad effects from whey protein. It has less then 4 calories per scoop and it has a 99% absorbtion rate where all whey protein including isolate you only have a 17-20% protein absobtion and the rest is waste that filters through your kidneys. So when they say you are getting 24 grams you are really only getting about 17-20% of that. Thats why a lot of people get sick to their stomach or feel tired when they have to drink a lot of it or get gassy or diareah and bloating. I mix the Chain'd Reaction because thats where i get my callories and complex carbs from. It has 168 calories and 36 grams of carbs per scoop, the unflavored has no sugar in it and the watermelon flavor has only 5 grams. I mix apple cider humapro with unflavored chaind reaction and its awesome. Sometimes i even mix the humapro into yogurt or into pudding or jello to get even more protein. I get my humapro from vitamin shoppe and from amazon and i only get the chaind reaction from amazon, i haven't seen that one at vitamin shoppe yet.

Hey everyone, Ok so i've been banded for almost a year now and i am at a stand still. The day I went to my first seminar I weighed 352lbs. Today I weigh 295lbs. So i have lost a total of 57lbs. I am happy with that but i am getting upset and discouraged because i have been at a standstill for the past month. I talked to my nutritionist after i had surgery and she said no matter what i do to keep my calories at 1000 a day. So that is what i have been doing and it worked for a while but now its doing nothing. On top of all of this, i didn't exercise almost at all my first year. I would walk and do the treadmil a little bit but i was lazy and i only did it maybe 2-3 times a week and only for about 20-30 minutes. It wasn't enough effort on my part at all. Well this past month I have gotten extreamly motivated and started exercising for 2 hours a day 5 times a week and 1 hour of cardio on the other 2 days. So i'm pretty much exercising 7 days a week and i'm still eating my 1000 calories a day and i'm not losing anything! i'm yoyoing between 290 and 295 and i always end up back at 295. I have a clean diet so i really don't think that is it. I don't eat bread or Pasta or rice because it gets stuck. I keep my carb intake lower then 40 grams a day, my Protein is over 70 grams a day and my sugar is less then 25-30 grams a day. I drink Water, although i should drink a little bit more, i haven't quite gotten to 64 oz a day of it i'd say i drink about 40 oz or so. I don't drink sugary drinks either and i eat a lot of veggies and make sure they aren't the starchy kind like corn. I'm not sure what to do. i was thinking of adding to my calories but when i asked my nutritionist she said no to stay at 1000 and just keep doing what i'm doing and possibly drop to 950 or 900 and see if that helps. She wont listen to me when i tell her that i don't want to drop my calories anymore. I always thought that when you drop your calories too low then you are only going to burn off muscle and i dont want to lost muscle, i want to stay strong. I already feel so tired and run down. Can someone please give me some advice to help me out here. Thank you!

Thanks everyone for your advice! I think i am going to wait another week and if it doesn't come off still then i'm going to try increasing my calories slowly. Ive been sticking with my 1000 calories now and exercising for almost 2 full months now and i'm still getting nowere so like i said, i'll try it for one more week and then i'm going to increase my calories. I did stop working out 7 times a week. i still do strength and cardio 5 times a week but and i do only cardio once a week and have a rest day. Usually my rest day is on Wednesday so that it is kind of in the middle. That has helped with my energy levels slightly. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again for the advice!! Ashly

Hey I want to get in on this! LOL i'm Ashly and i'm 25 and from Ventura. I was banded 11/18/11, how are you guys liking it so far?

I wish i could but my husband and i are not able to afford a personal traner. I'll keep looking for something though. Thanks!

I have PCOS and that was one of the main reasons that I got the Lapband. I never heard of a Doctor denying because of that. It was one of the co morbitities that they listed durring the seminar I had to take before I could get the lapband done.

HELP! 7th Fill - Have Restriction, but is it too much???
Ashly replied to chriscott97's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The best thing i can suggest is to see if his nurse practitioner can see you and take out maybe .1-.2 cc of liquid. my last fill i only had .5 put in but it was too much and i couldn't swallow my water at the dr's office, so they pulled out .2cc and it was perfect. Tell them that its an emergency and they should be able to get you in. -
I have 9 cc's in my 11cc band and that was just with my second fill. The first one they put in 6 cc's and I didn't feel anything. Now I finally feel restriction, but i can also still eat bread. I dont drink sodas because my doctor says the carbination and caffeene can mess with my pouch, stretch it and the caffeene can give me an ulcer. But if i take very small bites and chew well i can eat bread. I can still eat a decent amount but much less then with the 6 cc's. And I get full way faster, but I also notice that I get hungry again in a few hours. Also, I got my fill done on the 9th and it took a few days to really settle in with the solid foods. So wait a week and see if it works better as far as hunger goes. Are you drinking a lot of water throughout the day? Water always makes me feel full in between meals.

Hey All, so I just got my first fill yestrerday. I have an 11 cc band and my doctor put 6cc's in it. I thought that I would have a lot of restriction from it but I actually have none still. I eat as slow as I can and watch the intake, but i always stop myself before I get full, otherwise i can eat more then 2-3 cups worth of food. Does anyone else have an 11 cc band or close to it? If so what has been a good fill for you to feel restriction?

So I was baded November 19th which would mean tomorrow I am 3 weeks post op. The thing that worris me is that I feel this hardness under my large incision but that isn't where my port is. My port is about 3-4 inches bellow the large incision. I was getting a lot of fluid in it before but that has stopped. However I still have a rock hard feeling directly under my incision. And only the large one. Any thoughts??

November 2010 Bandsters - post op
Ashly replied to DebWS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so I was banded on the 19th and tomorrow will be 3 weeks out. Although I get full easier i have noticed that i have zero restriction. Which I guess is normal since my band is 11cc's and it is all the way open. However I thought that i would still only be able to eat a little bit. So far I have been able to eat the same amount I was before the surgery, but I do limit myself so that i don't gain any weight. Im having some issues getting in all of the protein but i only get about 5-10 grams away from the goal on some days. The sucky part is my first fill wont be untill january 4th. I wish they would move it up but they told me I have to wait 6 weeks I just really want to feel some restriction so I can lose more. -
hardness under my large incision
Ashly replied to Ashly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No I spoke to my Doctor already and he never gave me a definitive answer on what the hardness is. I can feel my port and he showed me where my port was. So I know that it isn't my port. I'm just not sure what it could be though. -
i was banded on the 19th too and i feel the same thing! mostly when i am laying down on my back trying to sleep and when i inhaile deeply. i thought it was from sleeping on my right side and my arm being in a funny position at night, but it is almost all the time now. I'm going to my post op appointment on the first and i'm going to ask my doctor about it then. i've also noticed that on the large insicion they made it is very hard directly underneith it and the hard area varies sometimes. i've noticed that it is sometimes an inch hard all around and other times it is about 3-6 inches hard around. i'm not sure why this is but it hurts.

Ashly replied to Ashly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey MegaLoud! That is awesome that you are so close to me. How far have you gotten in the process? If you need help with questions or suggestions just let me know. Thanks, Ash -
Hey All! I'm finally getting my band done on November 19th. For me it wasn't horribly long. I had my consultation July 28th and was approved in October. I haven't gone to the support group out here just yet but I wanted to see if there is anyone in my area also getting banded or has been banded yet. I live in Ventura Ca and would love to find someone to work through all of this with. Thanks!!

November 2010 Bandsters - post op
Ashly replied to DebWS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was just banded on the 19th! Super excited for this process. I haven't had a lot of pain, but I did notice that if I turned wrong I got a burning sensation about 3 inches below my large cut. Has anyone else experienced this before or should I worry?? It hasn't gotten swollen or anything from what I can tell. And I go in on my post op on the first so ill have the doctor check it out then. I just wanted to see if anyone else had this happen as well??i -
I've made it!! I'm having surgery tomorrow at 10:15. I'm worried though, I had a vitamin D issue and took 2000 units of vitamin d3 for a month, but today was the first time I took them in 4 days. I ran out and had to wait till I got paid to buy anything. They havnt called me to tell me if anything is wrong with the new bloodwork so i'm hoping it is fine. I'm on all clear liquids today. Good luck to everyone getting their surgeries this week!

Ashly replied to DebWS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my surgery is on the 19th and someone had mentioned to me that the 2 days of clear liquid right before couldn't be certain colors like red. Did any of you have your doctor's tell you that you couldn't have like a red crystal light even if it was see through?? -
Taking Calcium & Vitamins
Ashly replied to Esorami's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr. told me to take my multivitamin and then 2 hours later take no more then 500mg of calcium and then the rest another 2 hours after that. he said your body can't absorb more then the 500 at a time and you need sufficent time in between for it to absorb. -
So hard to get the protein!
Ashly replied to anewlife10's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been banded yet, will be on the 19th, but i found some shakes that work pretty well and don't taste that bad. MET-Rx Protein Plus RTD 51. Try the vanilla because the chocolate sucks! it is 230 calories for the vanilla and it has 51 grams of protein in it, 6g of carbs and only 2g of surgar. I drink 1 and i am pretty full for atleast 2 hours. If i continue to drink water after i drink it then i am full for about 4 hours. Let me know if you try them and like them! I got them in bulk at vitamin shoppe -
Hey Sha, I noticed that you are in california. What hospital are you going to if you dont mind me asking? i'm in california too and am going to cedars in los angeles, I would love to find someone near by that is going through the same thing. My surgery date is set for November 19th!
