can you feel your port?
Jessydtx replied to tle5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I went for my post op I didn't see the doc only saw the Physician Assistant. Is this normal? I have only seen the surgeon at my preop and it was a group meeting and at surgery. The PA told me that she could feel my port and if it was okay with me she will do my first fill on 9/27 without xray. I said that was fine as long as she knew where it was. I can't really feel it there. However below my largest incision I feel a bump that also feels uncomfortable when I bend. I am worried that she is wrong about where my port is. I think I will call the office and see if we can change my appt to be done under xray.....thoughts? -
I am using myplate.com I found it on livestrong.com. It is free. I still eat to go food alot and have found that they have most of the nutritional information on there. I really like it.

Hello everyone. I am 12 days post op. I was on clear liquids week 1 and full liquids week 2. I can have mushies on Friday. I am sooooo Hungry. I do get full fast when I eat. I absolutely hate cream soups. I can tolerate cream of mushroom but I am tired of it. Yesterday I ate some baked potato soup. It was a little chunky but I chewed really good before I swallowed it and I did fine. I am only able to eat about 1/4-1/2 cup at a time. I am going to cheat and try some chili tonight. I am a little scared of getting sick but I am so hungry. I am going to hope for the best. :blushing: It is so crazy how different docs put people on different diets....

I wish I could but I bought it at a restaraunt named Cheddar's. Best baked potato soup ever. Probably not too good for you but I am not eating much else now so I figure not that big of a deal. Anyone else have a good recipe for baked potato soup?

Looks like we were banded about the same time. I was banded on 8/27. I was on Clear liquids until today. Now I am no full liquids. I can't have mushies for another week. I haven't really been hungry until yesterday. I ate a 1/4 of cup of baked potatoe Soup today and felt stuffed. I am not sure if the doc put any Fluid in my band at surgery or if it is just from the swelling but I can't eat more than 1/2 a cup of anything without feeling stuffed. If is great! I have been walking about 1/2 a mile daily. Yesterday I walked a mile and a half....but paying for it today. I am pretty sore. My stomach is really sore! Just starting today I am getting alot of air in my chest everytime I drink. Feels pretty bad. I bought some gas x strips and I am going to try those. I have lost 18 pounds total but 12 of that was on the pre op diet. I have been loosing about a pound a day since surgery. Not sure if that is normal or not.... Glad yall are doing good!

Thank you all. I have had a week off of work. I go back next Tuesday. During this week I have becore a Lapband forum Junkie. LOL. So much useful information. @ Sandy, I am on clear liquids for 1 week. My surgery was last Friday so not sure is yesterday was the last day of clear liquids or if today is....anyhow I am onto full liquids after today. Yes I know 40 grams is alot. I drank 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening. I certainly felt full that is for sure. I can only sip it and after a couple of sips I feel full. @ Sandy. You are right about the soreness. I think it is from moving around so much. I have a two year old. She is 39 pounds so I know I can't pick her up but I am still bending over alot doing stuff with/for her. I am pretty sure that is where the increased soreness comes in. My belly is pretty swollen. I have 5 incisions total. One about two inches above my belly button is pretty large about 1 1/2 inch long. I was really surprised as I was not expecting any of them to be that big. The others are pretty small though. I am guessing this is where my port is??? I never saw the doc after my surgery. I just saw nurses and they sent me home the same day. I was pretty out of it so there wasn't alot of opportunity to ask questions.

I posted the below on another thread but really didn't get any feedback. I am hoping starting a new one will work. Thanks! Hello my fellow August bandsters. I was banded on Friday 8/27. I was in alot of pain the first couple of days. It eased up on Monday and Tuesday. I haven't been nauseated at all. I am on clear liquids for week 1, full liquids for week 2 and then mushies for 2 weeks. I have been eating popsicles and broth (actually the broth strained from campbell's chicken noodle soup). I am able to eat a full popsicle at a time and spoon 1/2 cup of broth at a time before filling full. I have a few questions that hopefully you guys/ladies can help with. 1. I am not drinking protein shakes yet. I have tried a couple and can hardly swallow them. My partner had a gastric bypass and the best protein shakes she found was Jay Robbs. I tried the vanilla ones (mixed it with water since I am supposed to be on clear liquids). I got one sip down and got nauseated. Yuck. Am I supposed to be getting protein now? I have read over my post op diet and it doesn't mention it during the clear liquid phase but I am worried. 2. Today my stomach is very sore. It seemed to get a lot better and all the sudden there seems to be more swelling and soreness. Is this normal? How long did yall stay sore? I really appreciate your help. I have spent the last 3 days on this website constantly. I have got a lot of positive encouragement by reading peoples stories/seeing their pictures. It is amazing. I am looking forward to this journey. I am down to 199 today. Whooohooo. I haven't been under 200 in 11 years. I am so happy!

Thank you all so very much! I found a protein drink today that is tolerable. It is called Cytomax Protein Pure Performance Drink. It is 20 ounces. It has 0g carbs, 0g sugar, 160 calories and 40g of Protein! It is a clear liquid so it works in the clear sugar free liquid diet. I drank the watermelon flavor and it was pretty tasty. Below is the website if anyone is interested. I would definately recommend it. CytoSport | Driven By Science. Inspired By Performance.

I woke up today with an upset stomach. I have done well until now. I haven't felt nauseous until now. I haven't got sick yet. My stomach feels really empty. I have been keeping up with my fluids to stay hydrated. I am not drinking any Protein shakes yet. Doc said not a big deal until I am on my full liquid diet (1 week post op). I was on the atkins diet pre op and lost 12 pounds. I have only lost 3 pounds since surgery on 8/27. I see some of you have lost more. How much walking is everyone doing?

August Rush in bandland!

Hello everyone. I just got banded on 8/27. I have spent all morning reading comments on here so I know what to expect. I am not really hungry yet. I am on clear liquids for a week and then full liquids for another week. What type of vitamins are yall taking? -
I am only having that issue with burping if I drink too much or too fast. As long as I am just sipping that doesn't happen. I am drinking through a straw cause I don't seem to swallow as much air that way.... I pasted the ticker in my signature line to get it to work. Let me know if that helps! Are any of yall taking any Vitamins yet? I haven't started and I am curious what everyone else is taking.

Hi, I was banded the 27th also. Same as you said it was much more pain than I expected. I am feeling much better now. Still taking the pain meds though....scared not too. I will probably stop tomorrow. I haven't really been hungry yet. My tummy growled a little...I have been eating 1/4 a cup of broth about 3 times a day and eating the popsicles/jello in between. I can't stand the broth so I took chicken noodle Soup and drained all of the juice out and have been eating it. Tastes much better. I also got some chicken noodle soup from chic fil a and drained the juice out. I added a little Water but it was a treat for sure. Today I am going to get some hot and sour chinese soup (of course just eat the juice). I am on a clear liquid diet for 1 week, then a full liquid diet for another week. I am so excited for this journey to begin. My partner had a gastric bypass a year ago and has lost 150 pounds. I see the difference it has made for her and I can't wait. Wish you the best. Stay strong!

Banded Yesterday...in quiet a bit of pain
Jessydtx posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi my name is Jessica. My process for getting my surgery was very fast. I had already done lots of research. My partner had a gastric bypass in 8/2009. She has lost 150 pounds in 1 year. I did not have near as much to loose and I thought the band was more suitable for me. I am so thankful I have her here to support me. Most people I have mentioned my surgery to have said I am not big enough. I realize I am not as big as others but I have been overweight for 10 years and I have not been able to loose it in the past. I saw the difference the weight loss made for my partner and decided that I wanted the same. So here I am! I started the process only about 45 days ago. I went through True Results and they were really fast and efficient. My surgery was yesterday. I have never had surgery before so perhaps I am being a big baby. I am hurting pretty bad. I feel the pain medicine is barely taking the edge off. I haven't felt nauseated yet, thank goodness. I have been able to sip water/crystal light all day. I sipped on some broth from a can of chicken noodle Soup. I have run a low fever a couple of times today, nothing over 100 though. -

Pam, Thank you for the encouragement. I am trying to do a lot of walking and sipping. I almost got down my 64 oz of fluids today. That is a lot when you can only sip. I am scared to drink too much at one time cause I am very fearful of being sick. With that said I am probably being too careful....Not sure how much chicken broth to eat at a time either. I kinda got the shakes earlier and assume it was because I needed some food in my system. The chicken broth seemed to do the trick. Jess
