Day 4 post op and feeling a little down today
newbeginningmama/wife:) replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sending a virtual hug your way, Amber!! I was banded on 7/21, and I felt the same way a couple days after surgery. I was soooooo sick of Protein shakes- the thought of them literally turned my stomach! I had no energy and felt so weak. It will pass- I promise! As soon as I had my first soft food, I felt so much better. I felt like a new person! Just try and hang in there! It will pass, and you will feel back to your self. I know what you mean about kind of mourning the loss of food, too...there was more emotional stuff in the beginning than I expected. I still somewhat wish I could eat certain things, but once you pass to the soft food, that eases up too. Just keep reminding yourself that you did make the right decision for yourself and your family. Hope you feel better soon- I'm always here to talk to if you need someone! -Hayley P.S. I'm from Cincy- GO BENGALS! Enjoy the game! -
Cincinnati Weight Loss Center=awesome!
newbeginningmama/wife:) posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had originally had a consultation with Journeylite two weeks ago. I am at 370, and my goal is to lose 230 pounds. Granted, this is a major amount of weight to lose, but I have a strong drive and motivation to succeed. I am also a self pay patient who is very cheap, so the thought of spending 14,000 without getting results is beyond me! When I met with the surgeon at Journeylite, he asked me what my goal weight was. I told him 140. He scoffed and said, "It's not going to happen, babe." He was trying to talk me into bypass or the sleeve. He said the band would not get me below 265, and the sleeve or bypass would get me to 200. It is not shocking that these surgeries are quite a bit more expensive and do not require aftercare. He was arrogant, rude, and was obviously trying to sway my decision to make him more money. I was disgusted and left upset and frustrated. I then stumbled across Cincinnati Weight Loss on the internet. I called them immediately, and I spoke with Kristin. I told her the story of what happened at Journeylite, and she was as horrified as I was. In less than 5 minutes, I had my consultation and surgery scheduled. I spoke with Diana, who is so friendly and awesome, and I had my pre-op diet instructions and anethesia consultation scheduled. They were efficent, accomodating, but more importantly kind! They seriously turned my day around. I went for my consultation today at Cincinnati Weight Loss Center, and I could not be happier. Dr. Watkins, Diana, Kristin, Cookie, and Tonya were the nicest people. Dr. Watkins never told me that this my weight loss is impossible. He is confident that this surgery is a good fit for me. Not only was he informative about the surgery, he was very personable and kind. I highly recommend Cincy Weight Loss Center to anyone considering this surgery. I feel so much more confident about my surgery because of the people that work at the center. I can not wait to begin on my journey when I have my surgery 2 weeks from today! Until then...this darn liquid diet! It will all be worth it in the end...right? If anyone wants to know any more information, please feel free to send me a message. I want to pass their good name to as many people as I can- I would hate to think that anyone had the same treatment as I did at Journeylite. Yay Cincy Weight Loss- you're awesome!! -

Can I join the club, too?? :scared2: I had my surgery 7/21, and I was just saying I would love to have someone to talk to about it that totally understands. My email is hayleylantz@yahoo.com if anyone wants to chat! (I usually check that more frequently than the board) -

LOL- it's so interesting to read all the different information people get from their surgeons!! It is so funny that we all have the same procedure, but have such a variety of care instructions! I guess as long as what we're doing is working, it's all good!! Best of luck to everybody! P.S. I am also soooooooooo sick of liquids!! -

Hey, RobynB! My surgeon did tell me not to take ibuprofen prior to surgery since it is a blood thinner, but he specifically told me to afterwards b/c it has an anti-inflammatory in it that tylenol does not. It truly made a remarkable difference overnight in the port incision. You might want to check w/your surgeon, though, if he told you not to. Hope this helps! :smile2: -

Hello! I had my surgery 7/21, and I'm feeling pretty good! I was having pain from my port incision, but ibuprofen REALLY helped that. I am not taking pain meds anymore- just the ibuprofen. Can't believe how much more that has helped! Getting pretty tired of liquids- can't wait until Wed. and hopefully I'll be on soft/pureed food. Mostly, I'm just sleepy. I think that was a lot from the anesthesia(sp.) and the fennegren, but all in all, doing good. Nice to meet you all and best of luck on our continued recoveries! :smile2: -
First Consult and the Hard Sell
newbeginningmama/wife:) replied to sara31's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had almost the exact same experience! Very frustrating!!! I am at 370, and my goal weight is 140. I told the surgeon that, and he literally said, "It's not going to happen, babe. The band will get you to 265- bypass will get you to 200. You're not getting close to 140." Needless to say, I am having my consultation with my new surgeon tomorrow! So infuriating. I think this surgeon was pushing the bypass because it is more expensive and there is no aftercare. Like you, I am dead set against the bypass, and I was not going to be talked into it. I am sorry you had the same irritating beginning that I did! Hope things are going well for you now!
