Desiree1972 replied to Herraven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Herraven - call your doctor! Paigey - your liquids should not be coming back up call your doctor too! I was having a horrible tight feeling in my chest post op, a hard time breathing, hard time swallowing... turns out there was air in my band once they adjusted it on day 4 - my existence felt so much better!! Please call your surgeons -

Jon what an inspiration - thanks for sharing your 109 lb weight loss! Butterfly - if you are not feeling it - why get the fill - this is your journey - you make the decisions you need to - slow and steady is good right? Missjoany hope you get back in bed soon - the recliner can be comfy for only so long Brian - sorry you threw up - that might be my least fave thing in the entire world! cicigirl - you have been cigfree for months - cravings are natural and i know you are strong enough to stay away from them. Maybe you can find a website to continue inspiring you - whyquit.org or com is a great tool congrats to everyone else I was banded on the 10th. I have so many different emotions about the journey thus far. I am so happy I did this! I thought about it for about 2 years before I began the actual process. I feel like I have more zing to my step - like I am moving faster. It is easier to put my shoes on and bend my legs back to sit in my fave chair in the living room. One of my goals is to (and has been since pre op) not obsess about the actual numbers (weight loss wise) but to focus on portion control and making good choices. However, the scale taunts me every time I walk by it. I asked my partner to hide it! I really want to weigh myself once a month - does anyone feel the same way? It is a big challenge - but I know my personality and I don't want to weigh myself everyday - too emotional and it could lead to some problems and failed expectations kwim? I find that I feel tight in the morning - anyone else experiencing this and better yet, anyone know why? Breakfast is hard for me - even a smoothie is a challenge. I am super heavy - and while I hear about others striving to reach onederland - I want to know if anyone is with me in reaching twoderland? :smile2: I am eating tons of pureed and soft foods and am so tempted by raw veggies and fresh fruits - honeycrisp apples are in season and I can't help but daydream about biting in to one. Lots of working on my relationship with food!!!!!!!!! Lots - what a challenge. I don't have a fill yet and I have no desire to get one anytime soon. Because I am so heavy - I think it will be a while before I need one? I eat about every 2 1/2 hours. I never found a Protein shake I liked so I am mindful of what I put in my mouth - tons of pureed Beans and scrambled eggs. Anyone have any other recommendations for this soft food phase? I haven't told my Mom yet either - I feel guilty because we talk all the time - but she is 700 miles away. She is coming to visit in November so maybe I will wait till then - so unsure. Anyone else dealing with this? Love this forum btw! -

call your surgeon and see him tomorrow! I ended up having excess air in my band and was miserable for 4 days - couldn't take deep breaths, couldn't walk for more than 2 minutes without becoming breathless - I didn't even sound like myself. It's better to be safe = good luck -
Hello Everyone I am having surgery one week from tomorrow!!!! I am trying to find vitamins and I would like to know which brand you recommend - also do you prefer liquid or chewables? One more ? - will I never be able to swallow a pill again? Thanks

Newbie Here! Banded 9-10-10
Desiree1972 replied to Cuppy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on the 10th as well. I am on week 2 of full liquids - today I made a split pea Soup and pureed some for dinner. It was sooo tasty. I don't care for Protein shakes, so I am doing my best to get it in other ways. I am finally sleeping - except last night I had a tightness in my chest - wondering if it is gas? Anyone else not going to the bathroom much? (I pee plenty) I haven't weighed myself- my personal goal it to stay away save for doctor visits I have a 4 year old as well (can't forget my 14 year old too) nice to find a band buddy! -
Congrats!!! How exciting - enjoy it and try not to become obsessed with that darn scale

Hi Everyone - Day 8 post op  welcome to the newly banded and the newly approved and for those of you a spit away from being banded - best wishes! MissJoany - i love your kitten stories  I am finally sleeping in my bed again and getting restful sleep. The last two nights I have eaten a crusty baguette with butter - mmmmm, but only in my dreams. the funny thing is while I am chewing, I am telling myself to spit it out. So for now, I get to cheat with zero consequences. I hope to dream of pasta this evening :tt1:. hee hee The hardest part right now is getting down my protein - I have yet to meet any protein that agrees with my taste buds. My taste has definitely changed. I ate some black bean soup today - and about after 12 bites, I somehow knew it was enough. I am getting my water in by sipping all day long. Tomorrow I hope to try a couple more protein shakes - we'll see. I did have a smoothie from smoothie king yesterday and it took me 3 hours to drink it and it was the tastiest thing I had consumed in days. My daughter and I went for a nice short, yet hilly walk and I made it - felt quite victorious. I am on the road to recovery and while I am hungry, I am not quite struggling. Those 4 days when I couldn't breathe really gifted me with the greatest reflection of my relationship with food. I don't want food to win! -

First and foremost a heartfelt thank you for all of your support and encouraging words - they brought tears to me eyes. After dry heaving and salivating all morning, we finally discovered that my band was too tight. This afternoon I went in for an adjustment (which was such a breeze) and they took out the nasty little air that was stuck in the band. I instantly felt better - my voice changed, I could breathe deep breaths and thank God I stopped spitting! By no means am I 100%, but the relief is 1000%! Now I can move more than 10 steps without losing my breath and talk with my people:thumbup: thanks again! -

Desiree1972 replied to CSinTX's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Everyone - 3 days post op here I have been hesitant to post my banding experience b/c I am one of the most positive people I know, and unfortunately this has not been positive for me - I am truly heartbroken about it. I love my surgeon - she is great - everyone in the hospital - fab. After several hours post op I started feeling a tightness in my chest. It threw me for a loop as I was expecting the shoulder/back gas pain - which never came. The incision pain is no fun - but easy to deal with - the tightness in my chest - not so much. I stayed over night in the hospital and walked the hall several times, but the tightness would not decrease. My surgeon called me on Saturday and asked how I was doing and i let her know where the tightness was - breast bone, she informed me that is where the band is - not to worry. After I was released and moving more the tightness was accompanied by shortness of breath. So I couldn't read more than one story to my daughter, or have a decent convo with my son. My neighbor convinced me to call the surgeon on call yesterday - he told me it was not normal and to head to the ER. I did. They scanned my lungs for a clot and i had to hold my breath - and I couldn't - the tech remarked on how shallow my breathing was. Then came the chest Xray and when he told me to hold my breath I couldn't - then coughed. It was no fun. After 7 hours in the ER they concluded that I didn't have a clot or pneumonia and that I needed to contact my surgeon on Monday morning to discuss the next steps as they only avoid catastrophic situations. I called my surgeon this morning and she was in the OR, but she had my paperwork and ordered an upper GI to see if my band was too tight. I actually cried this time b/c i hate barium and I felt sorry for myself (shame on me). Now I wait. I am frustrated. I don't regret the surgery - I just need answers and I need to know that I will be able to take deep breaths, read stories, walk more than 10 feet without sweating and catching my breath. Has anyone experienced anything like this? thanks for your support. -
I am on a pre op diet of clear liquids - and have discovered the BEST soup it is called Better Than Bouillon - it is with the rest of the stocks/broths in a jar - you just spoon it in I couldn't even smell some of the other broths - this I am HAPPILY ingesting :blushing: just an FYI

Hi Everyone - I just did some serious reading on this thread! You all are so supportive of one another. I met with my surgeon last week (a week after being approved) and got my surgery date last Thursday - September 10th. SO many feelings - but I am sure you can all relate. Looking forward to being on this journey with all of you! Thanks to the already banded as well as your words about the procedure have brought me comfort. -
