I was always thin in my youth, and like others, I followed the "freshman 15" tradition. Then I got married and gained more weight. I lost weight, had a child, and put on more weight than I had previously lost and thus began years of yo-yo dieting. I follow the very familiar pattern of those who wake up one day and realize they have become morbidly obese. And like many others, I am so ashamed that I have done so much damage to myself with my poor eating habits that I have to have surgery to correct it. I have so far lost 30 lbs from taking the required 3 month nutrition classes. I had contemplated going it alone and just continuing on with my new "meal plan", but I have hit a plateau and haven't lost much weight in the last couple of months and can see how easily I could continue on the same path I have been on for years. Every time I lost weight, I put it back on, and then some. Prior to taking the class, I had totally given up on diets because I feared getting even bigger. But, I feel so good from losing the 30 lbs and I am not ready to stop. I never want to look back - only move forward. I am looking forward to my surgery and continuing on this journey that I started in February. I am now married to the most wonderful man (2nd and final marriage) and my son is now 23 years old. They have both been so supportive of this decision and I would not even consider it without them by my side. Life is good . . . and about to get even better!
