I have a history of obesity on my Dad's side of the family. 3 members of my family lost their lives due to health complications that stemmed from being obese. I did not want the same to happen to me. I was diagnosed with ESRD (kidney disease) Aug. 11th of 2004, 2 months after I got married. I heard of this procedure maybe 2 years afterwards, but I was scared. I had gotten as heavy as 440 lbs as of December of 2007. Eventually, I succumbed to the idea of obtaining "help" in losing the weight. I was motivated for myself and for my daughter. I aggressively pursued the dream of being healthy again by contacting my kidney transplant coordinator who directed me to Dr. Michael Bilof early in 2010. I had lost a few pounds by then and was able to get my weight under 400 lbs (only 398) and I was stuck. Thanks to the lap-band surgery, I will reclaim my health and hopefully not need dialysis any more after I qualify for a kidney transplant!!!!
