I am with some of the others here, too few calories actually shuts down your metabolism. Your body thinks it's starving to death and conserves everything. Insufficient protein will also keep you from losing. Good luck!

I have a Gold's gym eliptical from walmart. It was under $200 (can't remember the exact price). I also have a Bowflex revolution, but do not recommend it if you have financial struggles. Zumba videos also are quite fun even if you don't think you like dancing. I love them.

Don't give up. I have wanted to have mine removed at times too, but only if absolutely necessary, I have nightmares about having surgery, I sure won't have it unless necessary. Are you exercising? I know it's hard. I am still struggling. I had my band 3/29/06 and still have 35 lbs to lose. I hope you are feeling better and reconsidering. I can't stick to a diet for more than 2 1/2 days then I fall off the wagon and feel like giving up.

Pretty Darned Tight, Too Tight?

as long as you're not vomiting, I'd give it a few days. Unless you start getting everything stuck and vomiting it up. -

Sorry, I don't know that Dr. Argotte did mine, but moved to Illinois without notice. -
Anyone else having difficulty getting motivated to exercise?

In March, I will have had my band for 2 years. I have lost 40 lbs. That is great, except I want/need to lose 35 or 40 more and am having great difficulty getting exercise accomplished. My knees hurt, I'm tired, there are a million reasons I don't go. Anyone have any words of encouragement? I tried Curves for a while, loved it, but it's 30 miles away. I joined a place closer, but have to pass by the road to my house on the way home from work to get there, I tend to want to go home instead after an 8 1/2 hour work day. I am feeling really discouraged and don't know what to do. I thought I would make a new start with the new year, but maybe I'm trying to start too many new habits at once? -

Thanks for the ideas. Anyone besides myself get food stuck several times a day? We went out tonight to eat at O'Charley's with friends from work for a late Christmas party and I don't think I was able to keep one bite of my food down. I wasn't trying to eat horribly disallowed foods. Tried grilled chicken, baked potato. There were some fried potatoes under the chicken. I was in the bathroom 3 times in the 2 hours we were there with painful stuck food. It is so aggravating. I worry that people will think I have an eating disorder or something. -
I had my band placed March 2006. Dr. Argotte in Paducah KY did it. The Lourdes weight wellness center has an awesome support team.

I also have Anthem Blue cross/shield. They covered mine except minor copays for the operation itself and a couple of the tests.

first timer questions about pain/pressure

Hey, I saw that no one had answered you yet, so I thought I'd try to help. You may be trying to drink too much at one time. I think the popsicle is going down more slowly since you have to eat that or let it melt so it kind of trickles down. I get pain when I drink too close to eating. This morning I ate some breakfast and needed to take a drink big enough to take Motrin for a headache, I wish I hadn't. I couldn't even talk to people in the parking lot at church, I had to head straight to the bathroom and got sick. I knew better. Once on solid food, they are NOT kidding, don't drink and eat at or near the same time. IT HURTS bad! Feels like a heart attack. I read a posting earlier that said 3% have slippage. I had my lap band last March 2006 and haven't had much trouble, other than getting food stuck, the problem described above, and not losing fast enough for my liking due to insufficient exercise and giving in to food cravings. IT is so hard to fight this mental battle. I tried to get my daughter to eat the last small piece of chicken so I wouldn't eat it tonight, it is like some overwhelming drive to leave it alone and throw it away. I remembered a sign on the wall at Curves (where I need to get back to exercise) It says, "never let the fear of waste affect your waist" I threw it away. Good luck. -
I sometimes get food stuck 2-3 times in one day, sometimes I just give up eating for an hour or so and then try again with a different food. Breads and slightly dry meats don't go well. I have low blood sugar problems on top of all other lap band restrictions, I tried eating peanut butter last night to stabilize my blood sugar, who would think you could get peanut butter stuck!? I did. We just have to eat slowly, chew a million times and avoid what seems to cause problems. You might try cutting the meat into really small pieces and chewing really well, or try adding some broth or a small amount of gravy to make it slide down easier. Too much would include too much fat of course and defeat our purpose in trying to lose weight. Have you lost much? I have gained 8 lbs since my Dr. said I should only take my fluid pill as needed instead of daily. It is truly depression to see that number on the scale. I haven't been exercising like I should have either. DO you struggle with food cravings? I wish I would stop wanting to eat fried foods and sugar. Good luck!! Misty

The gastric bypass support group in Paducah KY organized a clothing swap among it's members. If you have a support group in your area, maybe you could organize a swap. I get more compliments on weight loss when I have bought a smaller size. It's difficult to tell the difference in the same baggy clothes that hide the loss. I am so excited to be able to wear Large scrubs instead of 2X!!! :clap2:

Sorry to hear some are having such difficulty with insurance coverage issues. I have Anthem BC BS and did not have much trouble. I had lap band on 3/29, have only lost 34 or so pounds, but mostly my fault. It is so hard to watch people eating all kinds of goodies in front of you and not want to eat them. Especially around the holidays. I went to the Dr. Thursday and had gained 1 pound since last month instead of losing. Last time I hadn't lost any, I cried. I am embarrassed at being a nurse and knowing I need to exercise and follow the strict diet and don't always do it. I hope all goes well for each of you. MW
