"If we aren't a country that provides for health insurance for all of our people then what are we?" Answer: If we do provide medical procedures and facilities for "All", then we are a communist state. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "If we tell a little 8 year old girl that her diabetes can't be treated because we don't have insurance or the money to pay for it and there is no government program, what does that say about us?" Answer: There is a program in place, it's called Medicare or Medicaid, or by the state... in AZ it's called Access. Want to guess who pays for this? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The republicans want everything to be about privledge - the haves and the have nots." Answer: This Republican would like it to be about accountability and choice. This Republican would like to see all the aid and money that goes to other countries stay in this country. Why feed starving kids in other countries when children in MY United States are going to school hungry, going to bed hungry, wearing shoes with holes in them? Too much to want? I think not!

I have to agree with Bob and Btrieger.... Does the quote "Nuke em' till they glow" bring back fond memories???? I still say it's true. Should have done it then, and should do it now. Period!

How do you feel about a mosque at "Ground Zero"?
Murpel replied to loserbob's topic in Rants & Raves
My two cents worth... #1, read the Koran. Anyone who isn't Muslim is an infidel and must be converted or "killed". #2, There are reports that minorities in European countries are the indigenous population, who are now behind Muslims in their own country. (I don't remember which reporting agencies, sorry) #3, the churches and synagogues close to Ground Zero were there Pre 9-11. Final words from me.... While freedom from persecution (not religion) was the reason for our founding fathers to come to America, our founding fathers rightly tried to keep us safe from infestations of "non" right thinking persons. Yes, they too thought of our current situation. (Pretty smart dudes) While all men are created equal, they must act in accordance with the laws and rule of the land declaring them equal. If they are in MY country illegally... can't speak MY country's language, won't work and continuously breed (which currently gives them the right to stay here, even illegally)... They need to be deported. I don't really care where they go. They knew when they came here, they were here illegally... I don't feel sorry for them one bit. A little cold? Consider the lack of jobs for my children and grandchildren (or yours) that these "illegals and non English speaking" people have taken, to support their population booms. Not to mention the taxes "we" pay so they can stay here and breed! Now they are trying to rub our faces in their "religion" at Ground Zero? Not! More than two cents worth, but I'm done. -
I started to get the Greek yogurt with fruit... however I saw the crazy amount of sugar in it and chose not to go there. I use Stivia and other alternatives to sugar, try to keep the additives from SF/LC down as much as possible, so I feel like I'd be back tracking if I started adding things to my diet that have that kind of sugar count. Just me. Also, I don't know how true it is, but I read on one of the WL sites I frequent that any amount of protein over 30g at one time is excessive, and doesn't get absorbed. Just what that WL Dr. of Nutrition said. Haven't had a chance to check with my nut yet.

Chest tightness/constant hiccup and burp after fill to 9.5cc...
Murpel replied to JoiaRox's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
good for you! Glad to see you weren't shy about doing what you needed to do to stay healthy and not ruin your band/stomach relationship. -
Wow! I really feel for you. My first thought is that you may want to spend some time with a Phyc. Most of us eat for emotional reasons, perhaps some time with a professional would help you find your triggers. I would then suggest you try to find a Dr. who would do all the tests to see if the band has been placed correctly, hasn't slipped (you said you spent a lot of time throwing up) that there is no errosion ect. Then you could make a plan from there. Please know that as frustrating and miserable as you may feel now, it can and will get better for you. Hang in there and take it one step at a time. You may be a better candidate for a different WLS, finding a local bariatric Dr. would help you SO much. Good luck, and let us know how you get on..pleaes let us know your progress.

help!! no support from hubby
Murpel replied to bandongal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so you know, sometimes when our men are against us becoming healthy, they are actually scared that we won't want them when we are skinny. Cut them a little slack, not a lot, but a little. -
How do you cough after surgery?
Murpel replied to losethemess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
depending on which part of your stomach hurts... I used just my hand when it was only the port that hurt, but I used a stuffed animal to put pressure on my belly to roll over in bed and get out of my chair. (He was cuter than a pillow) -
I would suggest going to your nutritionist if you have one, or your Dr.s office for guidance. They would be the best source of information for you right now.
-
That is horrible. I hope the band removal is the answer. While I don't want the band to have caused this, I DO want you out of pain and discomfort! you must do what you must do! Should you need another surgery down the road... then maybe the bypass is your ticket. The sleeve would only insert another foreign object into your system. I wish you good health and a speedy recovery. Please let us know how you are doing.

did anyone cheat on the post op diet?
Murpel replied to dreamskin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Therein lies my problem...if I have one, i have to have them all... I'm better off not having any. -
It's not a problem. They just want the Dr. to document your weight fluctuation, your inability to keep the weight off once you lose it.
-
I don't know how close to correct I am, it was just an obvious connection to me. Hope all works out well for you!

What supplements do you all take?
Murpel replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take bariatric multi vitamin, bariatric Calcium chew, Bariatric B complex, just juice vegitable, just juice fruit and liquid L-Carnatine. They told me that I didn't need iron as I no longer have monthlies. -
your symptoms sound like the symptoms that women with leaking breast implants had. Perhaps it's the type of material the band is made of???? Just thinking....

DarkAngel, Just because you are full, doesn't mean you can't look at the menu. Having said that... as long as you love your husband and put your relationship with him #2 on your priority list (you have to be #1), you shouldn't have any problem being faithful. It's nice to think about extra attention, but it's SO much better to be loved. Your husband (I'm assuming) loves you big or small, that means he loves the person you are, not the package "you" come in. So fantasize away!

I add the non flavored benifiber to my protein shakes and use Chia seeds in anything i can add them to. They are fiber, no calorie, also help you stay full longer. I've read posts from others who use fruit for that purpose. My daily intake doesn't allow for fruit, hence the other options. Once you get things "moving" you'll feel like a new woman! Good luck with that.

Onderland is around the corner!

Congratulations... I am moving forward in fits and starts. A pound here, none there, then two! I can't wait to join you at the 50lb line! You ROCK! -
Back to work today...or not.
Murpel replied to JamiefromJersey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I frequently get an upset stomach. Sometimes its from the protein shake, other times its from gas I haven't passed. I start sipping as soon as I can (1/2 hour after protein shake) and it passes within an hour or so. It's not pleasant but it is tolerable. Hope you feel better soon. -
My seminar was 3/10, surgery 5/6. Insurance is BC/BS, as long as my BMI was over 40 or I had co-morbidity, no hoops. Surgeon's office made sure I qualified, and actually applied to the insurance company, not my regular Dr. I thought it was fairly quick!

I am so glad that your session went as well as could be expected. The fact that you acknowledge your issues and are wanting help is putting you in such a good place. Just try to remember that your issues didn't appear overnight, and you can't fix them overnight. You have friends and support here!

How can this be???
Murpel replied to LoserHeather37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That happened with my second fill.... a couple of days after my fill, I was hungry within a couple of hours of eating, and pretty much hungry all day. That lasted two weeks. I hung in there, and eventually, it got so I had to remember to eat. This third fill.... I don't know, it was .5cc, but it seemed like he took some out, not put any in. Almost a week later... I'm good. Maybe it will just take some time for your band to settle? Hang in there, and good luck! -
I feel bad that you didn't know what the surgery entailed. I am angry with your surgeon for not ensuring that you understood what the lap band was and how it would change your life. I hope that you find peace and a way to live with your band.

I have seen more that once on this board, folks who get cold feet the closer it gets to the day... All I can say is that you chose this path for reasons mostly known to you. Your health, family history, whatever.... those reasons haven't changed. The fact that you have been working toward this goal for a LONG time, just makes you that much more apprehensive. It is a big step. Just remember that you are doing this for your own good... and those who love you. As long as you follow your Dr.s instructions... and move as much as you can after surgery, you'll do great! even if you choose to postpone or cancel, what ever you chose, you will do good!
