banded one week - no restriction

Hola, Well I am just over a week, and started on "soft" food on Friday, I thought I had no restricition since soup, yougurt, oatmeal, everything was flowing fine and then tonight I decided to try some chicken (roasted very moist) and let's just say found out I definately have restricion! I won't be doing that again anytime soon. I would say I had my first stuck food. Yes my Dr does have chicken as a O.K food for week 2, and I am sure I ate more than I should have. Let's just say I have learned my lesson, you do NOT want to do that! leave it up to me to test the waters ;0

    January Bandsters???

Nicknack, At day 2 post op you are very much in recovery mode, try to get as much fluids in that you can no matter what they are (besides carbinated) I had a really hard time at first b/c I couldn't get enough fluids in. If you have someone there to help remind you to keep sipping ask them to give you a nudge. Go get your favorite juice and make sure you have it with in reach all the time~ I found the sugar in the juice would help give me a little energy instead of just water and broth. Do NOT let yourself get dehydrated, that can become very dangerous, and once you get dehydrated it can go down hill quick. I'm sure Tommorow you will feel tons better and then up from there. Keep in touch on here, it will help get you through it. Sara

    newly banded in mexico

Hi Donna, I'm right there with you (even the 3 kid part) I was banded on the 12th in Mexico, and luckly have been given a pretty casual post-op diet, but I have already caught my self many times by spitting out a grape while making the kids lunches or spitting out Cake batter while making the Birthday cake!~ it's habit. Which got me in trouble in the first place I'm sure but still hard to break. I almost went with De La Garza, glad to hear it went well. If you haven't already done so join us over on the January Banded link. Take Care Sara

    immediate post op diet....help

I am post op one week today and was given the O.K for soft foods~ the list even said Chicken on it (??) but I am sticking with mostly full liquids, cream soups and yogurts in with protein shakes. I did just have a couple of bites of very watery oatmeal with yougurt hopeing that it will help get the wheels turning inside if you know what I mean. I have also noticed quite a range of post op diets, I personally feel you have to listen to your body (as long as you don't end up at a Mc'y D's) If you think you need something a little heavier than clear liquids ask if you can at least have one meal with a full liquid like cream soup or even a protein shake. Take care Sara

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hi everyone, I am on day 7 and feeling much better. Although I think that I am finally less restricted, which stinks b/c I was hoping that I would be one of those that doesn't need a fill for 3,4,5 months. I was aloud to move on to soft foods today, which I was going to try and put off for as long as I could but ended up having a couple of bites of yogurt and oatmeal (splenda and Cinnamon only) because I have had a horrible headach probably due to very low calorie intake (like maybe if lucky 500) and felt fine, I probably only ate a 1/4-1/2 C but didn't even get that lump full feeling like I have in the past with even soup. I also just realized that I am the giant amung all of you, most of you are hovering around 5ft while I am a good 6" (really 6"1). My BMI was a 35.5 when I started, I am not going to wiegh myself for the first couple of weeks but can tell that clothes I wasn't comfortable in just a week ago are now comfortable. (which I am sure is mostly water wieght) Hope everyone has a good weekend, Sara

    Taking Meds??

I am newly banded but, just wanted to say that you can still take meds, I am on an Antibotic that is cut in 2 for twice a day instead of once bc it's so big but besides that everything else goes down fine, you have to realize that your band is not filled right after the procedure so although banded, and probably swollen you still have plenty of room for things to go through~ hence why I am STARVING right now!~ O.K sorry that was just my head hunger jumping in. I just think I'm starving :scared: Good Luck, Sara

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hola, everyone I am back from band land down south. Only five days out and I'm finally HUNGRY! I was just checking in to see what everyone else is eating and feeling bad that I am such a loser I can't take the short time to the next stage since most of you have been on liquids for double what I was told to do. Also thought you guys would be amused that 24hrs after surgery they (the Dr and crew) encouraged us to walk at the local mall, for some exercise and said we were "aloud" to have a milk shake if we wanted to! I thought this was strange after reading so much on the boards about strict clear liquids only for weeks after. I know that we are to be on liquids to let the stomach heal but I'm now wondering how just as pre op diets varied that the post diet could be so different. Thankfully I really didn't want anything the first couple days after being banded and had to force myself to even drink h2O. Anyone else had such leanant POST op diet restrictions? Am I missing something that makes a milk shake a clear liquid?? Hope to be jumping in here now that I am on the "Band"wagon. Sara

I have read a couple of people who have been able to have fills through insurance and I'm trying to figure it out for the future. Also a big congrat's on the wieght loss I am about an inch taller and have the same goal wieght. Hope to be sittting where you are in a year or so. Thanks for the inspiration! SAra

    BC Pill?

Hello everyone, ~ Well I guess mostly Ladies for this question Has anyone heard that you shouldn't be on the BC Pill before surgery? I just read on a post somewhere that suggested that and I had not heard that before. Anyone know why that would be? Hopefully I'm wrong since I have my band to be done in 5 day's. Thanks. Sara

    The coutdown

Well 2 more days and we are off for Monterry. I am getting nervous but have so much to do that I really don't have time to think about it. (and yet I still seem to find enough to be on this computer and boards I have a list in my head that I am hoping I don't forget, such as; Getting heating pad, Sports Bra, make sure I ask for all of my Medical papers, including information on my Band, Size, numbers off of it. Remember to ask about a low profile port. Down load music to MP3 that is actually relaxing. and I'm sure more that I will remember as I lay in bed tonight. I am going to start another blog just for my Band expierence (still trying to come up with a name for it any ideas?) and try to detail things such as stages, pictures along the way. I have always hated pictures of me and I will probably still chop of my head until after I get to my goal, but I thought it would be neat to look back on. Well the kids need lunch and I have about a billion things to do before work.

    Starting to have regrets

I am not banded yet but it sounds like you are in the stage that everyone has been saying is the hardest. Stay in touch here on the board. Just think about the long run one year from now life will be much better! I am talking out of my butt right now but since I'm not in your shoes but will be in about one week! I'm off for my band in 2 days! If you need a band buddy feel free to lean on me, you can guide me along and hopefully we can keep each others head above water! Take care, Sara

    BC Pill?

Thanks everyone, I am actually on the Merinea (an intra utirine IUD) so I forgot about it when they asked what meds I was taking, because I don't ever think about being "on" it (Seriously the best BC EVER!) But they said it was fine. It has very low hormone levels and localized. 3 more days! yikes. Thanks for all the info though. Sara

    Pre-op

Hello, I am having my band done on this Fri the 12Jan and did not require a pre-op, my BMI is only 35 which may have something to do with it. But I have been trying to do it on my own so I am prepared afterwards~ not going so well since I just dipped a cookie in my Protein shake! Anyone found a good way to take protein shakes? Mine tastes like baby tylenol right now and I can't get it down. Take care and good luck, Sara

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hi Ladies, I am going to Dr Rodriguez this Thursday!~ ?Surgery on Fri the 12th, which is a change from what I previously thought. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I was just wondering has anyone ever heard that you should not be on the pill before surgery? Any body know why? Any one else going under on Fri? Glad to hear everyone is hanging in there that are newly banded. Take Care Sara

    Dr. Rumbaut or Rodriguez?

Hi Judy, Well I am using Rodriguez this coming Friday the 12Jan so I will have to let you know! Hopefully I made the "right" choice and if so I will be sure to let everyone know my expierence with him. Wish me luck I am having the preband jitters.

    Dr Zapata?

Has anyone used Dr Zapata on here? I am still in the searching mode and would love to talk to anyone that used him. Thanks in advance. Sara

    Dr Zapata?

Yes, I am in Cincinnati, and I was hopeing to have Dr Curry do my band but even though my insurance would cover it my husband's work has a no wieght loss surgery exception! I did go to a seminar by Dr. Curry and would love to stay local but unfourtanatly I am streaching to even pay for in Mexico. I am planning on going to him for fills though since he is only about 5 miles away! I know I'm luckey. Take Care, Sara

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

Hello everyone, I am also a lower BMI 36 (if I don't stop with my Last supper syndrome it may be higher here soon!) I am getting banded Jan 13th also in Mexico and love the Idea of a lower BMI group. It helps to have a group with people in the same spot as you. (We could even set it up as a Yahoo group to make it easier to read and find. Just a thought.) Well Happy Holidays to all! Sara

    January Bandsters???

Pinky who is doing your surgery in Monterry? I have been looking into both Rodriguez and Zappata in that area. I would love to go there instead of all the way to Tijuana. But feel pretty comfortable with Kuri also. I was looking at going the same time you are too to Monterry. Sara

    January Bandsters???

Hello Ladies, Well I guess I can finally jump in! yahoo. I am planning on getting banned on Jan 13th by Dr Kuri, as of right now. I'm still not sure how I am going to pay for it :welldone2: ~ and actually just made an appointment with a local Dr to see if it would even be possible for insurance to pay for any part of it if done here in Cincinnati, but I am not holding my breath. But no matter what I am getting it done in January! Here's to a great new year! Sara

Anyone have Dr. Kuri in TJ Mexico?

I have also been looking into Dr Kuri, you may want to search the Yahoo boards like Bandsters, many more Mexican Bandsters over there. Just an FYI. I have found many great things about Dr Kuri and am curently considering between him and Dr Rodriguez in Monterry (just because he is a closer and does free fills and) But I am still up in the air, and hoping that Santa will drop a big load of money on my lap to make the decision easier :grouphug: Good luck, keep us posted on what you decide. SAra
  25. Ok I have been lingering on here for months now and I think I have it narrowed down to either Dr A Rodriguez in Monterey or Dr Kuri. I have heard good things about both. But would love to hear if anyone has anything to add about either. Anyway my question is after reading and reading (and then reading some more even in my sleep I go from feeling extremely ready to wondering if this is the right answer. I like most people with wieght problems love food, (so much I even married a Chef) I have tried every diet and diet pill and have struggled with my wieght for over the past 14 years, yes I can lose wieght but then with in a year it is back along with an exta 10-15lb more. I am at the point that I am just tierd of playing the game of being obsessed with starting another Monday with another diet and sinking further and further out of my childrens lives because I am embarresed of my wieght. My worry is so many people on here stress that you have to change your way of thinking and eating (which I have done with every diet) or it won't work for you. I know this and accept this but my fear is just as it has in the past that it will fail . I know that sounds immature but I don't understand how the band can do what years of dieting couldn't do. Isn't your mind the same as it was the night before when you were craming in that last meal? I would love to hear real open thoughts on this and hope I don't get slammed for it. Thanks for letting me ramble. Sara
