  1. Tab1975 - I've been pureeing chunky soups...That's worked the best...There were a bunch of Soups I stayed away from while doing liquids because there was too much stuff in them...things like chicken enchilada Soup, chicken noodle soup...The end result is just a thicker, nicer liquid soup...Think of a fancy bisque soup vs a watery liquid soup... I tried pureeing chili...didn't work so well. The flavors didn't blend well enough... I had made a homemade veggie soup with cabbage, bellpepper, stewed tomatoes, onion, carrots & celery...I lightly pureed that so there were no large chunks...Tonight I BBQ'd chicken and put some of the chicken through the food processor and then added that to the soup. Worked out OK. Then I've been doing malt o meal here and there...pudding...I've had no problems with either of those... The 'puree' week has been easier on me than the liquid week. Even though I'm still mainly doing just soups, they are heartier and thus make me happier.
  2. OMG, Dawn...that made me laugh...Don't poke the bear... It's day 11 for me...In my pureed stage...Def not as bad as the pure liquid stage, but I can't wait till Friday when I can have some overcooked mushy broccoli and maybe some mashed potatoes! Yum! My scale is showing I am down 11 lbs from when I first went on the liquid diet (2 days pre op), but I figure a lot of that is just your standard Water weight and when I start adding real food back into the mix, some may come back. I was told not to worry about weight loss during this first phase...that that would come AFTER the first fill (couple weeks from now). Have you guys allowed yourselves to get truly hungry? Holy crap that hurts! There's been a couple of times where I haven't been someplace where I could eat and man, my stomach just twists into horrid shapes!
  3. Sorry for the split posts...stupid 1000 character limitation!

  4. Today I waited waaay too long before eating lunch...It was 3:30 before I had time to! Then when I did eat, it hit my belly like that 4 ft drop you are talking about...My nurse (he did my checkup and will do my fills) said that we get that rock in our belly feeling because we are eating or drinking too fast.

I'm due to get my period in about 6 days...I had a HORRID day on Monday and sobbed on my husband and then when I looked at the calendar I figured out why! Since then it's been much better...

I had to do 1 week of liquid, now I'm on my week of puree (though I'm pushing it at times) and starting Friday I start the next week of mushies. I can't wait!!!

Tuna sounds so good...I couldn't have that water that it's packed in in it though! Man, I drain that stuff and then squish my tuna with a paper towell to make sure it's gone! It makes it too fishy too me...

    How are you today??

  5. I haven't been on for a few days...finally getting a chance to check in!

The pain in my side is almost completely gone and I'm trying to remember to use the Fibersure, so it must be working...I am a bit more regular than before (when I just wasn't going!)

My incisions are pretty good. Two have a little scab left...One of the small ones has no scab left and just is red like the scar tissue is starting to form. The one on my belly button is kinda the same...Reddish from healing/scar tissue, but no scab left.

I ate some lean chili yesterday. I couldn't help it. I had pureed some the night before and it sucked, so I just chewed it a lot. I did pretty good. It kinda felt like I had a rock in my belly, but not as much as EVERYTHING felt that way a week ago. I also took one bite of a roll the other day just to see what would happen.... I could kinda feel it I think, but I wasn't sure if that's because it was bread or because I was 'trying' to see if I could feel it. Haha...

  6. OMG - Isa, you are a CONCRETE woman! Tough stuff! There's no way I would have kept on in that marathon if I was in tons of pain! 2beskinny - you think the gym is an awesome perk? The best perk is that I work from home full time! I've gotten spoiled. Normally folks who are a good distance from an office WFH, but in all honesty, it would only be a 30 min commute for me...I love working from home. I need to just make sure I take care of my job as much as possible! It would be no fun to enter the real world again right now! I'm wondering how much loose skin I will have too...I guess that partially depends on how quickly we lose? I don't think I'll lose quickly...never have...There have been too many times where I have busted my butt at the gym for 2 hrs a day 5-6 days a week and avoided all sort of fun foods only to lose 10 lbs in 4-6 months. Ppphhhttt!! I was really strong though!
  7. I just sent you a friend request :)

I've had a pain in my left side below my ribs that's been bugging me for couple of days. I asked the PA about it and he thinks it's constipation, so I need to try to drink EVEN MORE fluid! Haha! I stared at him like, 'how can I possibly be constipated when I haven't eaten anything in over a week!', but I guess it happens. I have some Fibersure to throw in things, so hopefully between MORE fluids and the Fibersure, the issue will resolve itself. Can't wait to get to the mushies stage...so done with liquids! I officially entered purees today but even those are no fun! I want to chew!

Do you think tuna will qualify as a mushy?

I don't want to push my limits too much. My husband was talking to someone who's aunt had to have her surgery redone because she 'blew out' her band. I guess she tried to eat way too much and the actual band broke!

Talk to you soon?! Have a great upcoming Saturday!

  8. Hey Starsinmyeyes! I was told that I could start my cardio within a week and start lifting weights again after 4 weeks. I'm planning on doing the elyptical this weekend...Not all crazy hell bent like I sometimes do, but nice and steady. What is the 'dumping syndrome'? I have to look that up!
  9. Hahaha! Hopefully your popcorn will be yours again within a couple of months...Although I know someone who got a kernel 'stuck' and couldn't eat or drink till she 'aired down'! But I think her band is way too tight...

  10. Nicole, I'm so glad you went to the doc! I bet you'll be way more comfortable now! And your weight loss is awesome! Yesterday and today I've been very headachey. I'm a big old wuss when it comes to headaches. I was having some software installed on my laptop for work today and while that was going on ended up taking about a 4 hr nap. I also have what feels like a 'stitch' in my side...lower left hand side below rib area. It started a bit yesterday and is worse today. I've been looking at the forums and it seems like it's fairly common and often attributed to gas. I have my first post op check up tomorrow. Hopefully they tell me everything is fine... Still uncomfortable to breathe deep. Last night was my first true 'cry' night. The headache all day must have worn my butt down. My husband looked at me as I was laying on the couch and said, 'do you need a hug?' I answered, 'will you come to me or do I have to come to you?' Hahaha...He came to me and I cried for a few pitiful minutes and then was better. I may have to do it again tonight. I can already feel the lip extending, haha. It's the 5 yr old in me...kinda tired, not feeling great, pouty... Yesterday and today I haven't been as good about my Protein...Still got at least 40 g, but not as much as I should. Tomorrow is another day!!
  11. The Precor's are NICE! I had a cheapie elyptical for a while, but we didn't really use it because there wasn't enough resistance and it was too noisy. My husband actually enjoys the gym (I do NOT) and he motivates me to go. My company pays for my membership, so it's something I can't really complain about.
  12. I'm reading about all sort of folks who are suffering with not being able to be comfortable, not being able to eat or drink much of anything, having to sleep certain ways, experiencing nausea and vomiting very regularly, etc... I know that these are all par for the course, but if you are experiencing symptoms that are not dissipating, doesn't that indicate that maybe your band is too tight? If that's the case, shouldn't your doctor take out a bit of the fill? Shouldn't they be listening to you and saying, 'OK, lets try this then...'? My cousin's wife was originally banded in Dec and STILL can hardly eat any solids, can only eat a meal that's about the size of an egg (if that), vomits almost every day, etc. She told the person doing her fills about her issues and he basically nodded his head and said, 'yep, that's to be expected'. I'm a newbie so maybe I have no clue yet, but if the doc told me that after so long, I'd want to deck him! Shouldn't your band be adjusted so that you can live a fairly normal existance so long as you are 'good'? Obviously if you are overindulging then you're going to suffer the consequences, but if you are doing what you should be, shouldn't you be able to do it comfortably for the most part? Or do I just have a seriously rude awakening coming?
  13. 2beskinny - I want to start running again too! Actually, I was never a 'runner'...more of just a 'jogger', but I used to love it. Now it's physically uncomfortable because of the extra poundage...Prior to the 4th of July the hubs and I were gyming it and I was mainly using the elyptical...then on occasion treadmilled it. It's so hard to get back into...but when I used to jog all the time I loved losing myself in that rythym. A half marathon sounds pretty cool. That would be a great goal for you again.
  14. Yeah...I'm doing the Protein shake thing...sigh... I'm also taking a liquid multi vit which is actually rather tasty, addtl liquid B Complex and 'juicing'. I wanna make sure to get my vits in!

    Stuck...UGHHH

Ohhhh, productive burps....got it! Thank you! You have been getting those hiccup things too? Damn those are NOT comfy are they? They feel like a reverse burp or something to me!
  16. I don't know how normal that is, Nicole...I could drink my Soups and Water and stuff the very next day...In fact I had a wee bit of broth that night of the surgery. I don't know if I'm one of the lucky ones or if you are one of the unlucky ones (depends on what is more common, I suppose). I guess it also depends on whether your doc filled your band a little to begin with. Maybe yours did and mine did not... You may want to call the doc just to give them an update. I don't think you are in any danger or are that unusual of a case, but they may have some suggestions for you...or at least alleviate your worries.
  17. That's exactly what I wanted to hear! Curious how common your experience is vs the bad experiences. I wanna be like YOU!
  18. I haven't even started counting calories. My doc said to just focus on liquids period so that my stomach could heal...that I could focus on weight loss later. I was banded on 7/30. I'm learning that things have gone pretty well for me compared to some other folks, so I've been fortunate so far. I hope I feel the same after my first fill. I'd rather not have as tight a fill and not lose as quickly because I can be comfortable and kinda eat normal than be filled too tight and deal with nausea, vomiting, etc. I'm a big baby. I figure if I just can't eat what I USED to eat quantity wise then I'm waaaay ahead of the game. I was a pretty healthy eater, but I could PUT IT AWAY!

    Stuck...UGHHH

OK, what is PB'ing? I've seen that one a few times in threads...Same with 'DH'.... I just had my surgery 7/30, so I have not experienced 'stuck' yet. Not looking forward to it. My cousin's wife had something get stuck on a Friday night and could not eat or drink ANYTHING till she was 'unfilled' and flushed on Monday morning! WTF?! How do you not die?! OK, I'm being dramatic...somewhat! No Water for a couple of days? What do people normally do in these situations? You just wait it out? I think stuck is going to trigger anxiety for me. Normally, I take xanax for an anxiety attack. However melting it on my tongue would be HORRID, but if you can't drink/eat, then that's kinda the only option!

    Unflavored Protein

I am using Bob's Red Mill All Natural Whey Protein Concentrate. 12 oz cost about $14. A 1/4 cup has 15 g protein, 1 g carbs & 80 calories. I've been putting it in my Soups. Sometimes it clumps a little, but you can whip it in or something using the blender if you want...Just be prepared for it to get 'foamy'. I found mine at a local heath food store called Lassens. If you have any local health food stores, they likely have similar options.
  21. I'm thinking that an average of 10 lbs per month is a safe, somewhat conservative guess, but you can see that many people responding seem to lose more. If I could lose something like 40 lbs after 2 months, you can bet you'll see me doing the happy butt dance!
  22. OK, I keep seeing the reference 'DH'...what does that stand for? Damn Husband? ExternalX -Oh, Little Honey, I feel bad for you! It's hard enough being a teen in general, but then feeling powerless to control things because you have to do what Mom & Dad say, eat what they eat, etc. makes your situation hard. I know there's never enough time in the day, but maybe you should learn how to cook some healthy options and then 'treat' your Mom to a cooked meal a couple times per week...Maybe she'll see how good 'healthy' can be and start migrating over to your side of the kitchen. That, or ask her to not make food for you and tell her that you will make your own food so that you can be more successful in your battle. She's gotta realize that fast food, greasy food, etc. is horribly unhealthy and MUST want her child to be as healthy and awesome as she can be, so remind her that you don't want to deal with health complications such as High BP, High Chol, Diabetes, etc. That YOU want to be healthy and live a good life so that your Momma can be proud of you! It would be hard to feel powerless when it comes to food choices...The rest of us feel so limited, but at least we can select what we are purchasing at the store and what is being prepared for us. I'm sorry, Hon...You stay strong...You are going to need to ask to be more independent when it comes to meals so that you can succeed...
  23. LovelyLady, you may want to pick up some of the Protein powders from a local GNC or something. I'm using AMPLIFY and they aren't bad. I HATE diet drinks, etc. because of that aftertaste and though these are low carb/high protien, the aftertaste is pretty minimal. I've tried the Cookies & Cream, the chocolate Cream & the vanilla Cream. I like vanilla because it's versatile (you can throw peaches or whatever in it to make it different each time), but the cookies & cream isn't bad by itself. I've been using my organic 2% milk with it. If I use 1 1/2 scoops of powder, 1 c of milk and a handful of ice, it makes a pretty large shake and I get 40 g of protein in. The shakes will just take forever to drink once I have had my first fill though. I had also picked up some unflavored whey protein concentrate at a local health store (I had to have them help me...not normally my kind of store). I am throwing some of this in my Soups to get 10-15 g of protein here and there. It mildly changes the taste and texture, but I'm just being careful not to taste the Soup BEFORE I throw the stuff in so that I can't do the 'Ewww, it made it gross' thing.
  24. Isn't it funny just HOW different the instructions are from different docs? I was told that they were going to do my first fill at 3 wks...some people are waiting so much longer...6 wks, etc. (aside from the lucky person going on the cruise, I wonder what the docs' differences in opinion on when to get the first fill are due to?) I'm kinda bummed that I am supposed to get my 1st fill after 3 wks because that's just when I would be introducing solids again. I suppose the 3 wks can be pushed out based on when an appt in my area is available (does anyone else's docs seem to do a circus circuit, travelling all over?)...but then I guess it would be good in a way because it won't give me much of an opportunity to go hog wild before I'm heavily restricted again. Today is the roughest for me so far. I woke up headachey and not wanting to bother with another dang Protein shake. I made myself one...a larger one so that it has 40 g of protein...I wanna get the 'pressure' to get in the protein over with earlier in the day so I don't have to think about it later. The Water is much more appealling to me though. All in all, the first 1/2 of the day is way easier than the last part. The latter part of the day would be when work is done, I'm starting to make dinner for myself and the hubs and then we get to enjoy it together in front of a favorite show. I loved that. Obviously I can still make him dinner, but it's not near as much fun when I don't have a full plate of delicious food vs him having one and me having...soup...again. But alas, we will make it through this period...Think about how quickly time goes...Heck, we're well over half way through 2010 already...The next few weeks will soon be a dim memory...a 'remember when that sucked so bad?!' thought. I remember when I got my braces when I was about 36...Thinking about how horrid it was (I had to have a tongue guard so I talked like Elmer Fudd forever)...and now they are off and I am so happy that I have nice teeth that I'm not so ashamed of (mine were truly monsterous)...In retrospect the time went so quick...but in the beginning it was hard...All things 'worth it' are hard for a while. Just makes us appreciate it all the more later. We can be proud of ourselves later...That we DID this...That it sucked at times, but we DID IT. We'll be healthier & happier in the end... And our asses will look better in jeans.
  25. I have to change my username...My name is actually Klisa, but my email addy has always been 'lisa with a k' (get it?). People understandably keep calling me Lisa and I keep thinking they are talking to someone else. Duhh...I just put in a request to change my username so I stop getting myself confused! :blushing: My whole family knows (aunties, cousins, etc.), and my closest friends know, but I haven't told all of my co-workers and extended friends. I mentioned it to someone during a conf call (they were inquiring about me being out for surgery and hoping everything was OK and I'm not the best liar so I told the truth) and I could tell by their response that they didn't really know what to think about someone purposely doing this to themselves. It's my assumption that people who have never had a weight problem themselves or been really close to someone who has had one would never understand why we wouldn't just shut our mouths and stop eating so much. I wish I was one of those people who could do that! My hubs has the will of steel and I am often envious of that. That's just not my strength though! The glued incisions remind me of the cheesy Halloween wounds that you buy and put on your forehead or wherever. I always thought they looked so fake, but now my incisions look just like them! Ha! I made my Hubs dinner again tonight...crisp, green salad, mac n cheese (going for easy) and a filet mignon. I thought I was going to die cooking the steak. I always freeze them in 2's so I actually cooked 2 of them, though one was tiny. I took about 3 bites of the steak, just enjoying chewing/tasting them but then spit each of them out rather than swallowing them. Kinda gross, I know, but it got the 'need to chew' out of my system, gave me a bit of the steak flavor & my dogs enjoyed the leftovers (I know, once again, gross). :cool2: I left my hubs to eat alone and I worked for a bit and then when he was done I heated up some of my soup. Just think, y'all! We've made it through another day! Whooowhooooo!
