2nd fill today- Lost 1cc?
ashmd2b replied to Tally23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same exact thing... I went back yesterday for another fill and a check and this time only .5cc was missing... he said he was okay with that as long as it wasn't 2-3ccs. I am self pay so I was very nervous it was a leak but he said if it were a slow leak he would just do more frequent fills on me so I wouldn't have to dish out cash for another surgery... He has only had one other person have a leak and she was a self pay too so this is what has been working with her. -
I was self pay and did not have to pay any extra for the hernia repair

close to onderland and just had my first fill- liquids?
ashmd2b posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor told me yesterday to do liquids for 2 days after my first fill. He put 4cc in a 9cc band. They also said I could do liquids and mushies a little longer if I wanted. Has anyone done this to get to a "goal" like 199lbs? Or, do you just end up getting stuck at your current weight because of lack of intake? -
Where are you in VA? I'm in Richmond and LOVE my Dr.... Dr. Elliott at Henrico Doctor's Hospital. I always get an appointment to see him and he does all of the bariatric patients... no PAs or NPs and his partners just do the general surgery type stuff. He does fills under fluoroscopy so he can see your restriction and I had my first one done today. It was cool to see it working because my band was REALLY loose and he had to put 4cc in. I have the 9cc Realize Band.

Vitamin water ZERO is my new addiction... -
What foods can't you eat?
ashmd2b replied to tle5000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I cook chicken in the crock pot and then chop it up in the food processor so that it is the consistency of like a bbq sandwich but smaller pieces. Then package it up in 1/2 cup containers so when I need it I can just pop it in the microwave. I've found that if you add some water to the chicken before microwaving it makes it moist and doesn't taste/feel gross. -
I had a "dils". He went in through the upper portion of my belly button and then did a small 5mm opening about 2 inches from my belly button. I'm very glad I don't have five incisions healing! These 2 have been enough!

Where is the avg port attached
ashmd2b replied to sherun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is just to the left of my belly button... maybe 1/2 an inch from it. I'm not quite sure how it ended up there because he had told me he puts them up higher when I asked pre-op. I'm guessing once he got inside my anatomy was different than expected and he had to put it there.... It feels so deep! -
Magnesium Citrate works well also

How quickly does pouch dilation happen?? I don't feel "full" after eating 4oz a lot of the time... sometimes I do. Is this just part of bandster hell or could I have dilated my pouch by drinking too much/too fast? :cursing:

Pouch dilation vs bandster hell
ashmd2b replied to ashmd2b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm just worried that it's more than just bandster hell... I'm a worrier though! Today was supposed to be my first follow up appointment and the doctor had to cancel because he was in a case that was going bad and had no idea when he would be back to the office. I'm glad that this happened AFTER my surgery though so I didn't have anything extra to think about beforehand. With my bf being a surgeon I know that things can go wrong and you can run into the unexpected but it just makes you think. -
still on mushies and craving chinese like crazy! The crazy thing is... all I eat is steamed broccoli with brown sauce LOL So, anyone have problems with broccoli or chinese food with their band????

I had my surgery on the 18th and I can tell you there were a lot of naps the next couple of days. It wasn't so much the pain as the being sleepy and needing rest and recovery. (I was taking Tylenol, only took pain medicine the night of the surgery) I went back to work on Monday the 23rd and had no problems. I'm a nurse and was in classes all week for a new job. Last night was my first 12 hour shift since the surgery and night shift so it was kind of hard to make it all night but I was fine.

I know a lot of people have a hard time with ground beef, but what about the imitation ground beef like smart ground or morningstar? Are they any different since they aren't meat and are more soy based??
-
I just discovered chinese in the last couple years lol I'm a late bloomer!

Oh, I know it's not mushy LOL I was just wondering if I can have it once I make it through all of this... I'm just craving it really bad right now LOL

My incisions came open after the dermabond came off. My boyfriend who is a surgeon said he tells all of his patients to clean with hydrogen peroxide and then put neosporin on it. I've been doing this the last few days and they are looking a million times better already. He said he rarely has an infection or problem with incisions since he tells his patients this.

I had a "hunk" of dermabond that kinda piled up in my belly button I guess and today it came off. The area is moist with some serous (clear) drainage and some light pink, yellow, and white areas. Did anyone else look like this when theirs came off under the dermabond? If you didn't have dermabond what did the doc use as a dressing?

I'm a nurse and luckily have only been in nursing orientation this week but I got the shaky feeling as well. How far apart are your shakes? Are you doing 3 a day or 4? I just had surgery last Wednesday and the first day of orientation was the first day I felt hungry since surgery. Lucky me!

When dermabond falls off???
ashmd2b replied to ashmd2b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The boyfriend cleaned it out for me yesterday and said it looks okay. He said it looks like maybe they just didn't clean it out very well before they put the dermabond on and that they probably stretched the incision which caused some of the discoloration I saw. He said just keep neosporin on it and clean out with peroxide. Today it's looking a million times better I think the dermabond was just keeping in the gook that needed to come out. -
When dermabond falls off???
ashmd2b replied to ashmd2b's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the belly button incision and a very small one next to it just for suturing down my port... I'm going to have my bf look at it tonight... he's a surgeon... I'm just curious what other people's look liked... He said small drainage was normal when I asked him on the phone but I'll make him take a peak anyway -
Does anyone get really sick after surgery?
ashmd2b replied to Ambroshaangel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My dr prescribes Emend to everything the morning before the surgery... he said it takes longer to kick in. Anesthesia also gave me medication. I had told them I had gotten pretty sick with previous surgeries and pretty mean/wild when I was recovering so they gave me a lot of good stuff and I was pretty gorked when I first came out of the OR but I was up and able to walk like 2 hours after I left the OR! I kept on walking too.... it felt way better than laying in the bed! -
3-4 days out were the worst for me as far as swelling. I woke up nauseous, hurting, and panic-stricken. I too couldn't lay flat on my back and it hurt to get out of bed but I kept on pushing through. Today I feel like brand new minus a couple of incisions on my belly

I had to sign a consent that I would not get pregnant within at least the next year of getting my band b/c it could cause complications. Have you had your band unfilled? I think most docs unfill it during pregnancy so you can eat more.

hiatal hernia repair and banded together
ashmd2b posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm wondering if the hiatal hernia repair is what is making it difficult for me to take deep breaths or if it was just the surgery in general? I'm using my incentive spirometer an getting to about 2000-2250 most of the time. In the mornings Im around 1000-1500. I've been walking like crazy and overall feeling pretty great! I was banded yesterday at 8am... took 2 percocet at bed time and that's been it. I took a tylenol today so far. I'll probably do percocet at bedtime again. I've not felt like eating/drinking much at all and I've started burping/passing gas so I am hoping that will all be out of me soon. Any tips??
