New to the forum! Meeting my surgeon tomorrow!
Trazola replied to AmyLMoore's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Amy, and welcome. I was banded on July 27th, so tomorrow is 1 week. I am doing pretty good now, had some bothersome gas pains but they have almost gone away now. I am happy for you that you are getting this done at such a young age, I sure wish I could have! Be sure to read a lot of the posts to get a good idea what you are getting yourself into :-) The band is a tool and you have to be prepared to work at it, which means changing your eating habits and exercising. I also go to another newer lap band website, Lap Band Support, Lap Band Forums and Information and they are really helpful over there. The gals that run it have successfully lost weight with the band and kept it off for several years. Maybe I'll see you there. Good Luck on your journey! -
I think somethings stuck!

Good to know! Thanks for sharing :-) -
JMAW, good luck with the infection. My understanding about the coffee is that it can become an irritant, but if it doesn't bother you than I don't see why not! I don't understand how they can tell you to only have 4 oz 3 times a day and expect you to get your protein in. Doesn't add up. I can see later when you are healed and able to eat, but not at this point. Make sure to ask about about that.

Anyone going in to surgery, really think about taking a small pillow with you to hold against your stomach when you get up. I had this: Amazon.com: Homedics OT-TRVL Ortho + Therapy Memory Foam Travel Pillow with Carry Case, 15" x 11" x 4.5": Health &… and it was very helpful and continues to be (I was banded on the 27th)

I got my band! July 27th, so this is my 3rd day out. (counting the 27th) Went in to surgery @ 7:30 am, released at about 1:30pm. The 1st day wasn't too bad, but I slept most of the day. There was more pain yesterday, mostly gas. Seems like everytime I drink anything the gas pain comes back.I had water, vitamin water and sugarfree popsicles. I am having my 1st protein shake right now, and it is pretty good (after I blended it with a little ice) I've only been able to get 2 oz down so far. How weird is that?? From the stories I've read, I think I have had it easier than some and not as easy as others....right in the middle...which is ok to me :-) How is everyone else doing?

Hey everyone, I know I am late to this party but I was also banded yesterday the 27th. I went into surgery at 7:30 and walked out the hospital doors at 1:30pm. Went to my brothers house and after a couple sips of Water and pain medication (Lortab elixir) I was out for the rest of the afternoon. I also have been having some gas pains, mostly in my left shoulder and chest. Was up for a couple of hours last night but pretty much slept through. Today (went home) I walked some more and am expelling gas both ways (thank goodness) Shoulder still hurting but not as bad. I've just been sipping water and Vitamin water, but tonight has some chicken broth. I am somewhat confused about when to start full liquids.... Congrats to my band mates, our new b-day is July 27th! Take care and keep checking in! Tracy:thumbup:

I have failed my band - SUPPORT GROUP

Wow, there are some sad stories here. I have to say, my mother has always been sweet and non-judgemental. I can't say the same for some of my siblings though. My brother, (who had just been released from prison by the way) after not seeing each other for quite awhile said to me "So sis, what have you been doing, besides eating?? hahahaha" really? When I was a teen, there were some mean boys who used to call me "tank" I have a lot more too....driving along and looking over to see some guy puffing out his cheeks at me, and staying the same speed as me so he could be sure I saw him, he had another guy with him and they were just laughing and laughing... I have to say as a mother, I could never imaging saying something so hurtful to my child as some of the things I have heard on here! -
Hi all! I'm from Corona and due to be banded tomorrow !

Thank you, thank you, thank you Froggie D!! That is exactly what I needed to hear. I was personally going to go through with this anyways, but have been having a lot of worry & doubts. Your post helps put my mind at ease. Tracy -

Good Luck to all of us getting banded on the 27th! (and everyone else too of course :smile2:) I just feel a bit of a kinship to those who will be going through this on the same day. And remember, this is a TOOL, not a magic fix. Read everything you can and take note of the things the success stories tell vs the failures. Also, did you know there is a whole WLS community on youtube.com? Just go there and do a search on "lap band" and there are lots of video logs. There are some negative ones, but the majority of the ones I looked at were pretty positive. I found a few that talk about weight regain and this really reinforced to me that I have to take charge and really work this to give myself lasting results. Tracy -
What does your days menu look like?

Hi LovelyLady, I have to agree with MollyRN. I am 55 and have been overweight for 40+ of those years. I WISH there had been something like this for me at your age, I think it would have made a world of difference for me. I am also scheduled for my surgery on Tuesday the 27th and although I am also a bit scared, I will be there and see you on the other side! That said, you have to do what is right for you and if you aren't feeling it right now I'm sure you can push back your surgery date so you can think about it more. This is all up to you sweetie. Tracy -
What kind of protein shakes are you using? I am having a hard time deciding what kind to get, there are so many!
-
I'm going in on the 27th also. Scared and excited! Wish I could have done this when I was a lot younger.... Oh well, at least my health will benefit and that's really what it's all about! Tracy

Oh yeah, I think this is going to help me! Thanks for posting this

Im A Ball of Nerves
Trazola replied to Laylas grandma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OH YES! My surgery is scheduled for July 27th and I am having all of those feelings and more! I have been reading everything I can get my hands on, the good, the bad, AND the ugly, lol. I am also doing the whole "I'm going on a diet, I must eat everything in sight" thing. This must stop.....I want a safe healthy surgery. I have decided that I will go back on WW this week, and then go into a pre op diet that I got off these boards. (My Dr only gave me a diet for the day before surgery) We will do just fine, all of us and to Hal, thanks so much for putting everything into prospective. I have a 3 week old granddaughter and I am much older than Layla's grandma so that all really hit home. Good Luck to everyone Tracy -
NSV is Non-scale Victory, not sure about SLIMING

Good luck! I am scheduled for July 27th. :frown:

any late july bandsters??
Trazola replied to aphrab's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My first post :-) I am scheduled to have my band placed on July 27th. I'm very excited, but also a little scared that it won't work for me. I have a brother who had it 2 years ago and lost 90 lbs. He is now struggling a little bit to keep it off, but he's looking good, and when he goes back to the proper way of eating he is fine. I think what worries me the most is that I have always used food as comfort and kind of as my drug of choice, lol. I hope I will be able to comfort myself in other ways after the surgery. I know that there aren't many who eat way too much because of hunger after all, and I will just have to train myself to eat healthy and be happy with less....
