  1. That made me laugh. I have a social butterfly of a dog as well. She's small so it's easier to keep her away from people but she sure complains

    Anxiety with the scale

I cleaned my closet out last weekend I would say about half got pulled out to go to charity. Most of the rest are still too big, but look OK so I kept them for now. I have started to question if I'll get to wear my existing work clothes again -- I'm in CA and working from home for the forseeable future. It's entirely possible when that lifts up none of them will fit. AND I'll be good with that

    Anxiety with the scale

Thanks all for answering. My weigh in today was actually really good - my best since week 1. It seems the anxiety isn't really related to the number, it's the "what if" from a life time of dieting and failing and feeling like the scale didn't reflect my effort. Hopefully this is something that will go down as I continue to stay on track and make progress with this new tool. I do also take measurements and pictures, but only 1 time per month at the end of the month. I'll look into a scale that does body fat as well.
  4. I have my 3 month follow up this coming Wednesday. They do a group session with the Internist and a dietician. I've been waiting for them to cancel, but instead I just got an email they've moved it online/video conference which is great.
  5. I've never gotten into podcasts but it's something I can look into. I don't think I can do true crime (I don't like to focus too much on the bad things people do to each other) but i know there are a lot out there. Anyone, please make recommendations
  6. I can relate, I'm 5'9.5" and I always carried my weight pretty evenly v. just in my belly or hips. I was also wearing mostly stretchy clothes for the months leading up to surgery (trying to avoid buying more "big" clothes). I was probably down 50+ pounds before I really started to see anything. And where I see it is in my clothes. My weight is still evenly distributed. I made a point of taking before pictures and measurements, and now do them at the end of each month to help.
  7. My dr had me take stool softeners proactively for the first 6 weeks. I switched to adding fiber to my protein shake after that and its worked for me.
  8. Thanks all. I just sign up for a Business Analytics course which starts in about a week and that should keep me busy. Maybe I'll also start a second language if I need something more as well. I JUST did my closet but my kitchen could use some cleaning and organization. Maybe that will be my weekend project this week I've been thinking of painting the front door so when it stops raining I'll add that to the list. (good news is I have some of the color I want left since I don't think paint stores are open now. I've tried adult coloring books, puzzles, etc.... and they just aren't my thing. I do love to read though, so appreciate any suggestions on great authors or series.

    Clothes?

This thread encouraged me to clean out my closet (last time I went through it was right after surgery). It took 2 hours and I ended up pulling almost half of what I had in there. I did keep a bunch that were big but didn't look bad so I should be good for a bit longer.

    Clothes?

Like others, I am donating. I started in 24 pants (should have been 26 as they were all getting too tight) and 2X (and probably would have been in 3x shortly if I hadn't made the decision to have the surgery). I had 1 tub of smaller size clothing down to 1X and 20 that I am now in and that for the most part are getting too big. I am trying to keep wearing them until they are WAY too big to keep costs down. I have also bought just a couple of items: my jeans were all 24's and literally falling off, so I bought a pair of 18s and I bought a few XL shirts as my options were getting limited. I did keep 1 pair of my larger dress pants. Just for the before and after.
  11. I'm about 10 weeks out and last night was the first time I had a bad interaction with food. I don't know if I ate too fast, ate too much or my stomach just didn't like what I ate but wow, I felt terrible. Immediate heartburn then a stomach ache and chills for about 2 hours. I'll definitely be more careful about what and how I ate for a while.

    Carbohydrates

It's so interesting how different everyone's plan is! At my 6 week appointment my nutritionist told me: Protein first: 60-70 grams a day No more than 50-80 grams of carb (I am generally much lower because I just don't have room No more than 35 grams of fat (again, generally lower) We are told to eat 3 times a day. No snacks (Unless you need a protein shake to meet protein goals). I'm eating about 5 oz of food at a meal, although some days I portion 5 oz (usually ~3 oz lean protein plus veggies) and end up eating much less.

    Dehydrated And Low Blood sugar

You need to drink even though you aren't hungry or thirsty. I forced myself to drink every time there was a commercial on TV or someone on TV took a drink. I also set goals: Get X ounces in before 10, etc... You may also want to call your surgeons office if you are feeling jittery, etc... Some people have to go get a round of IV fluids if they aren't getting the fluids in they need.
  14. Hi all, I am just heading into stage 3 food and am curious how much sugar caused you to dump in the early days. My plan allows for some fruit but I want to be careful... thanks, lori
  15. Glad you are both doing well. Im doing ok without food as comfort for the most part- just a couple of days where I really wanted to just eat and had to find something productive to do instead. I also just cleaned my closet and had to move a bunch of stuff to the donation pile as they were way to big. I’m trying not to buy too much new but I did have to go pick up a few things. I bought a pair of new jeans in an 18 and they are just a little too tight. Hopefully in a few more weeks they’ll fit.
  16. Hello surgery twins We are officially 2 months out today so I thought I'd see how everyone is doing? Overall I'm doing well. Recovery was fairly simple and I've had no issues with any foods or getting in my protein/water. There are still lots of things I haven't tried (bread, pasta, rice, sweets, etc...) as I'm following the protein first recommendation from my team but within those guidelines all is well. I'm walking over a mile almost every day and am getting ready to join a local gym to add some weight training. My energy is still low so I'm hoping if I increase healthy carbs a bit this week I'll have the energy to do that. Weight loss is a little slower than I had hoped (down 29.8 post surgery: 16.8 and 13) but I recognize I never would have lost almost 30 lbs in 2 months pre-surgery. I hope i continue at at least this pace. In addition, I am losing inches - almost 14" total from all over. So---how are you all doing?

    Turmeric?

Hi all, I have an email in to my surgeon, but curious if any of you take turmeric or other natural anti-inflammatory post surgery? I know we can't have Ibuprofen or other medications that are anti-inflammatory, just curious if any of the natural ones have worked for you. ~Lori
  18. No drains or catheter. My surgeon actually had me swallowing pills (even my fairly large multi-vitamins) on day 3 (first full day home). I was shocked and asked multiple times if they were sure but it went fine.

    Turmeric?

Thanks all! I am looking at the Turmeric capsules with Bioperine. I heard back from my surgeon and he said its fine to try and to just watch out for any gastrointestinal side effects. My knees are already feeling a lot better, but my left knee still won't bend fully so I'm hoping this will be a good boost as I continue to lose the rest of my weight. Hopefully it won't be required forever but at least it sounds like an option if it is.

    Eating 8weeks out

I'm 7 weeks out and at my 6 week check up with my nutritionist she said most patients she sees are around 750 or so between 6 weeks and 3 months. I was sitting at around 800 and she wasn't worried about it at all, but after checking my macros did recommend I try to keep my fat a little lower (I was using both cheese and avocado during soft stage).

    Hunger

My DR allowed greek yogurt and cottage cheese for RNY patients that early out. Only 2 oz at a time, but I pretty much lived on those the first week (in addition to protein shakes).

    Mix collagen into protein shakes?

I've been taking Collagen since early last year (long before surgery). I started when I was diagnosed with arthritis in my knees in the hopes it would help and I think it did. I also noticed it helps my skin and hair feel better in general. I'm still early out from surgery so not sure if it will help with loss or not, but if nothing else, it's an extra 10 G of protein for only 40 calories and it dissolves with no taste in protein shakes or my decaf coffee. (It can make drinks sticky if the ration of powder to liquid isn't right).

    9 weeks post-op

I'm almost 7 weeks out and like you I haven't had any issues with any foods so far (I had some raw spinach today after my protein and it went down fine). I haven't had red meat yet so no clue how that will go. I also had a long stall (3.5 weeks) which seems to have broken. During that I had days where I went up and days where I went down so I finally stopped weighing daily.. I thought I could handle it but apparently not so much Overall I am feeling good, exercising daily and just following the plan.

    NSV

I'm tall and carry most of my weight in my legs. I'm ecstatic about this NSV but will say the pant sizes are going down much slower 😕 We will get there
