What vitamins are you taking?
emsbugbug replied to emsbugbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How often are ya'll having bloodwork done? I haven't had any done yet and was banded Sept. 2010. I am getting another fill next week, maybe I will ask about that. -
What vitamins are you taking?
emsbugbug replied to emsbugbug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I will try that to see if it helps! They are so nasty but they are the ones that my Dr. suggests. I compared what was in them to a regular multi-Vitamin and they have alot more than the multi. I just need to shop around. -

I take 2, but I easily forget because they are so nasty!!! I just chew them up real fast! Thanks for all the responses...I am really looking forward to changing up! -
What the heck!!!! Weight going up
emsbugbug replied to christina353's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Quit weighing everyday! You will drive yourself crazy. If you have to weigh on a regular basis, weigh just once a week and in the morning right when you get up. I use my Wii Fit to weigh. It keeps up with my numbers for me and is accurate with my dr.'s scale. Your portion question: I only eat white meat, but never a whole breast. Usually 1/3 to 1/2. Your Protein should be around 4oz. For eggs, it really just depends. I cannot eat 1 egg in the morning, but in the evening for dinner I could eat 2. Just make sure you are getting enough protein. I use sparkpeople.com to track my food. I also like livestrong.com. They have great tracking tools and also have apps for my phone. -
What the heck!!!! Weight going up

And make sure you weigh at the same time, everytime. I weigh once a week on Friday morning around 7ish. Anytime after that and the scales are crazy! Find a time and day that is good for you and keep it. If you can't get to it at that time, weigh the next day at the same time. -
Will we ever resume to regular vomiting if we have a stomach virus?
emsbugbug replied to kab1278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor couldn't stress enough "DO NOT THROW UP"! He told me that the very moment I started to feel sick or nauseated, I was to call his office immediately for meds. I have phone numbers for 3 nurses just in case that happens. Vomiting can cause your band to slip and that is the last thing you want. I have medicine on hand and a band to but on my wrist just in case. Vomiting is apparently a HUGE no no for bandsters! -

I cannot do salad very easily. The lettuce just doesn't cooperate very well. I know some people that eat it all the time though. We all are different. I like steamed broccoli and carrots. I just carry them to work with me in a container and throw them in the microwave with a little water for a couple of minutes. Chili is my go to food though. It is good for you and easy. It has carbs, but they are good carbs. It is just a process of elimination. I do have a general rule that I go by: Nothing with over 3-5 grams of sugar. Not for a whole meal, but for each individual item. This helps keep the bad carbs out of your diet, as well as high fructose corn syrup and bad sugars. I can really tell a difference doing that. Good luck! -

I would really put down the crackers and the potatoes. That could be what is causing the problem. Also, I think you weight gain has more to do with that is going on with your period than what is going on with your food intake. You might have noticed that weighing around your time of the month sometimes makes your weight higher/stay the same. Always take that into consideration. If you are losing inches, but not pounds, it probably means you have quite a bit of Water weight going on. Also, please don't let anyone convince you that not eating enough calories puts you into starvation mode. It doesn't. Starvation mode is a myth! http://www.weightwatchers.com/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=35501 Good luck and definitely talk to your gyno. He may have some ideas of what might be able to help. -
I am currently having some hair loss issues. I was banded in Sept. 2010. From what I have read, this is pretty normal due to the trauma of the surgery and should stop within 3 months. I get all my protein in and am taking my bariatric vitamins along with Biotin. Hopefully it will stop soon.

I went to the movies with a friend of mine and wanted an Icee so bad, so I got one, not even thinking about the carbonation or drinking out of the straw. About mid-way through the movie I started getting the worst pains in my chest and neck. The GAS WAS HORRIBLE!!!! I thought I was having a heart attack! The neck pain from gas after my surgery wasn't even this bad. I recommend staying FAR AWAY from Icees. The pain is not worth it!

I love my chocolate Protein, I have found so much to do with it, but the vanilla is giving me fits. I have a whole bunch that I don't want to waste, but I just can't find anything that makes it taste better. What do you add your vanilla protein to?

Hey! I was banded by Dr. B on Sept. 23 and have lost 60 lbs. I love my band and Dr. B's staff is amazing! Good luck and stay in touch! -
They are high in sodium and also tend to be pretty high in sugar. I generally stay as far away from frozen dinners as I can.

I have noticed in the last couple of weeks that my hair is coming out alot more than it used to. I had not been taking my vitamins like I should, I just always forgot. So now I am trying to be more consciencious about it. I think I will get some Biotin too, though. Whatever works!

How long should I take off work after surgery???
emsbugbug replied to jblady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think that is plenty of time. I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back at work on Tuesday. I know several who went back on Monday after Thursday surgery. It really all depends on how your body responds, but I think that 5 days off is a good idea. -
In 3 1/2 months my "girls" have gone from a 46DDD to a 42D and are still shrinking! I haven't been a D cup since high school (15 yrs. ago)!

Sorry, this will prob be TMI...(could my band have slipped?)
emsbugbug replied to Scoobie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
T ypically if your band has slipped, you will have nausea and it will be hard to eat. Reflux will also be pretty bad. It is probably just your body adjusting to the changes in diet. If you are still concerned though, I would at least call your dr. -
Carbonated drinks
emsbugbug replied to Stephanie702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I slipped up one day and drank some of my daughter's Coke Icee...I don't know why, I just wasn't thinking. I got the worst gas pains in and around my neck! Felt just like it did after surgery. I will never drink another carbonated beverage!!! -
What make/model of scale do you use?
emsbugbug replied to HezTri-s's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use my Wii Fit for a scale. It keeps all the information so I don't have to write anything down. Even gives BMI. Love it! -
Being too tight will not keep you from losing weight, eating too many calories will. Maybe you should look at your diet and see what you are eating. Slider food are typically higher in calories than what you should be eating. Look at your diet and make the changes there. If you still are not losing weight, then talk to your dr.

Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!
emsbugbug replied to Brian-LA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. how many cc's you have in your band - I have 4.25ccs in a 10cc band. 2. do you feel you have restriction- what does that mean for you? I feel restriction. I cannot eat alot AT ALL! I eat very small portions. I have several things that get stuck, rice, bread, chicken nuggets, but fritos slide right on down, LOL. Fritos are NOT allowed in my house anymore, I have no control when it comes to them. 3. are your calories tending to stay below like 1600 (or what are your calories generally.) I don't count calories. I watch my sugar intake (nothing over 3 grams) and eat pretty healthy. I can't eat that much, so counting calories is a moot point. 4. what is your weight loss like: I have lost 55lbs. I lost 18 lbs on the 3-week pre-op diet. I have lost 37lbs. since my Sept. 23rd surgery date. 5. are you hungry between meals. Sometimes. Typically only during the week between Breakfast and lunch. 6. are you exercising, and how much. Not really. I am looking forward to getting my XBOX 360 Kinect for Christmas and doing Zumba with my 12 yr old in the mornings before school. 7. how much Water are you drinking? Not enough. I drink hot tea and crystal light during the day. I should probably be drinking more. -

What do YOU do when your calories are too low?
emsbugbug replied to RandomRan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Starvation Mode is a horrible myth. I hate that people use it to justify no weight loss. If you eat fewer calories than you need to maintain, you WILL LOSE WEIGHT. Your metabolism will slow, yes, but you will lose the weight.
