June 2007 Bandsters

Hottytoddy--thanks for adding me to the calendar...I feel soooooooooooooooo special!!!!!
2. YEA, YEA, YEA GLORY TO GOD!!!! I received a call saying that my insurance approved lap band surgery. God really confirmed that this is right for me. I asked him to have the surgery on June 17th (not realizing that this was a Sunday). The doctor's officed said that June 18th is available....Isn't God good? I'm a teacher and He worked it so that I will be on summer vacation--no days missed from school!!!! There's only 1 down side--and it's really not that bad: I live in Dallas, and I insurace said that I have to go to Decater (1 and half hour drive) for surgery!! But, I'd drive 2 days to have the band if necessary!!! I'm inviting my "LAST SUPPER"---where did you eat? I'll be a member of the June Banster's soon......

June 2007 Bandsters

today is day 2 of my pre-op diet. Here's the diet: Meal 1: I can choose 2 (oatmeal, toast, egg, yogart, cereal, milk) Meal 2: Myocel Protein Shake (mixed with frozen fruit or yogart) Meal 3: 6-8 oz of lean meat and 1 cup of a green veggie Meal 4: Myocel Protein Shake Meal 5: (if needed) Myocel protein shake Day 1 was a real struggle. I am now working 10 hour days--AND NOT A MORNING PERSON!!!! I had a shake for breakfast, oatmeal and yogart for lunch. I was starving by 4:00 so I left work, ran home and made a shake for snack. I had broccoli and talapia for dinner. (about 9:00 p.m.) Today is MUCH better. I reversed the meals and put the heavier ones in the morning. Last night, I went to Wal-mart and purchased a hamilton-beach personal blender. It's a single-serving blender, so I made a shake at home this morning and brought it to workfor an afternoon snack. Today, I had oatmeal and toast for breakfast, talapia and broccoli for lunch and a shake for snack at 4:00....so now when I go home I will have another shake.

6. I have not been banded yet (waiting on insurance approval). However, I am trying to "change my habits now" by watching my calorie intake. :hungry: I saw on another post about counting daily calories using fitday.com. I found it a bit tideous because I could find nutritional values for food that I ate in restaurants. I eat out quite a bit--I may have to stop once banded---is there an online site that lends itself to counting calories of restaurants? Anxious to begin...

Black man

I'm a black woman. I'm not banded yet, however, I check various websites. You may want to try www.obesityhelp.com to chat with other black men. Obesity Help has a forum called Black America Forum. Hope this helps.
17. I don't know if it's a new product, but has anyone tried Gas-X thin strips. Rather than chewable tablets to relieve gas, they are small strips that you place on your tongue and they dissolve. If you've tried them, let me know if they are as effective as the chewable tablets.
18.
I am go glad to see those who have been banded by Dr. Benevides. I am not banded...YET!!! My insurance requires 6 months of managed weight care by a doctor--so Febuary is 4 of 6 months with AIGB. Did either of you go through AIGB? Does Dr. Benevides do his own fills? How aggressively does he fill?

Cindi--24lbs in 3 weeks is ABSOLUTELY SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE!!! Could you have lost 24lbs in 3 weeks on you own?

19. :help: I am going to a lap band seminar on Feb. 5.....Would you provide me with a specific list of questions that I should ask, but may not know to ask? Waiting.....

blue cross blue shield

While going through the 6 months of managed weight loss, how much weight did you loose? I don't want to loose too much and be denied and I don't want to not lose and they say that I'm not serious and be denied---UGH--WHAT TO DO????
21. :help: :help: My insurance BCBC-TRS requires that I do 6 months of managed weight care under a doctor. As of last month I have lost 11lbs and my BMI is 40. When the doctor wasn't around the nurse whispered not to loose a lot of weight because the insurance won't pay if the BMI is under 40 without a co-morbidity. (and I don't have any) Is this true????:cry Should I do the minimal and show only a little weight loss or should I really try? When I left, I went straight to McDonalds:hungry:
22. Thanks for answering.....I think that I'll try to sightly go up and down....eat what I want all week and then 2 wees prior to my appointment--try and diet.....
23. hello---does anyone have any experience with Dr. Benvides in Dallas, TX? I'm interested in your opinions of him/staff/surgery etc. I am trying to get approved by my insurance.
24. I know that many who read this site, are not yet banded, but are probably considering it. I am not banded yet. I'm currently doing 6 months of managed weight loss by an MD. I'm wondering if those who are not banded would share why they aren't banded yet. :bananapartyhat: I'm planning to do the Atkins diet to show that I've lost some weight. (not really trying). I think that for my next Dr.'s visit, I'm going to tell them to stop wasting time consulting with me--just write down whatever they want to get me approved----I'm just doing the visits to get approved.:nervous
