    Hiccups

When I start to hiccup, it's a reminder that I need to start paying attention. If I continue eating, it can get pretty messy! I've heard it called a "soft stop" reminder on one of the other lap band sites and I think thats a great way to see it. You aren't in a "stuck" situation, but you could be headed for trouble if you don't slow down or even stop eating. Just my opinion...
  2. Finally!! Someone who is seeing this thing in the same light as me! I have been stopping in here less and less because it's too much doom and gloom. I find it frustrating that the same threads get started over and over and over and they seem to all be focused on the bad stuff. Let me tell you, even when I'm saddened by the loss of my old comfort-namely food!-i appreciate that the band is giving me my life back-one pound at a time. I have followed the same journey as you all have. The ups and downs, the "testing the band" and now finally-the sweet spot. I guess you can take this journey a lot of different ways but if you keep focusing on the negatives, it's going to be negativity all around you. Keep up the good work-all of you! Let's promise each other that we aren't going to join in on the negativity because we have been blessed with a great opportunity-NOT punished-and we need to celebrate the journey...:blushing:
  3. Like all of you, I also have hypothyroidism. I also have Hashimoto's. My weight loss has been much slower than many of those who were banded after me. I was banded on July 13th and have lost 31 pounds so far. I have had three fills so far and am at 4.5 cc in a 10 cc band. I try not to look at many of the posts on here because I get disappointed that my loss has been much slower than others. But...I am still VERY PROUD of what I've accomplished so far! My endrocrinologist says the only difference between before and after surgery is that my levels need to monitored closer now since I absorb my synthroid differently now. All of my doctors are thrilled at my rate of loss, so I need to just accept that this is the way my journey is going to be. Just know that your thyroid can impact your rate of weight loss, but don't let it drive how good you feel about the progress that you make-Whatever your rate!

    Am I being greedy?

I was banded on July 13th, so about four weeks after you. I'm now down about 31 pounds. My doctor keeps reassuring me that he doesn't want more than 1-2 lbs a week. I keep focusing on how much better I feel and other non-scale victories-the pants that are huge, the smaller face I see in the mirror, the dr. taking me off the blood pressure medication. Keep up the good work!

    Not drinking while eating

Me too! I just had my third fill not quite two weeks ago and i am very tight! If I try to drink, I end up with that "urpy" feeling...
  6. I guess i'll put my two sense in on this too. I was banded on July 13th and I have NO regrets. For the first time in my adult life, I don't feel like food is running my life. I've had three fills and get full with a very small amount of food. Like some of the others said, I had to learn how to deal with emotions and stress in different ways-I was extremely emotional for about the first six weeks after surgery, but once I spoke to my doctor and she reassured me that it was completely normal, I was able to move ahead! When I look in the mirror, no regrets. When I don't have to take any blood pressure medication anymore, no regrets. When I've dropped three sizes in pants, no regrets. When my sleep disorders doctor had me schedule a sleep test to see if I might be able to go off the CPAP (for sleep apnea completely related to my weight!), NO REGRETS!!! If you are ready to start on an incredible journey, make the appointment and move ahead on your new life!
  7. Hey Shonette, You sent me a message and I just wanted to let you know that my weight loss is good. I am down 31 pounds since pre-op, 20 since surgery. VERY SLOWWWWWW... Doctor is happy, and I have to admit, I am happy even though I feel disappointed when I compare my loss to what others have done. That's okay though, this is MY journey and the way I'm choosing to lose, is MINE to own!

    Mashed Potatoes and Eggs?

Try scrambling one whole egg with an added egg white to increase the protein. I scramble mine with some added milk to thin out the texture and I've been eating eggs since i graduated to pureed. Just mush them up a lot!

    ideas ofr mushie stage

I made some split pea soup and pureed it in the blender-lots of protein and even got some sweetness from the carrots. I also sauteed a chicken breast with lots of seasonings-salt, pepper, garlic, herbs and then pureed it in the food processor. Also roasted a turkey breast in the oven with lots of seasonings (I was so desperate for flavor after the week of liquids!) and pureed that. I had a couple tablespoons with mashed potatoes and pureed roasted carrots and fat free gravy made from broth and i was in HEAVEN!!! Good luck.
  10. My dh didn't get "behind" the idea of Lap-Band until we had the appt with the surgeon. I don't think he could support it until he understood it. Surgeon explained everything about the procedure and made my husband see how it would work and why it would work. Has your husband been involved in any of your appts yet? After 25 years of marriage, my dh has seen my weight range over 100 lbs so he understands my struggle to lose weight and be healthier. He is supportive as much as he can be-he has never had a weight issue so it's hard for him to understand the struggle of being obese but he loves me and wants it all to be better! He was right there beside me before and after surgery and is trying to be helpful. I was banded on 7/13.

    Bragging Rights Time

Great Job! I got goose bumps when I read your post. I was just banded on 7/13 and my first major goal is to break the evil 200's! I cannot wait to see Onederland and you give me hope...

    Help!!

Kerr4Jenn-Hang in there and don't expect perfection from yourself. I was banded on 7/13 so I know what you are talking about when you say you were hungry. I joke that I was hungry enough to eat a cow, but I didn't. I kept having small amounts frequently so I didn't let the hunger get out of control. My doc says full liquids for the first week so I just used protein shakes and yogurt and chicken broth to keep my stomach "full" and stop the growling. I have to admit, there were a few times that I went to bed because I was so hungry. I started on pureed foods yesterday and I cannot get over how much better I feel. A friend of mine who was banded several years ago says to keep it in perspective. The three or four weeks of liquids, pureed and soft foods is such a small time period in relation to the rest of your life. Try to give your band time to heal though and don't go on a binge that will ruin all of the work you've done to get ready for this! Sorry for the novel, but I know how "hungry" can change your mindset so much.
  13. Thanks! I need all the positive support I can get!

    Any July Bandsters??

I got released at 3:30 yesterday and you are right-the ride home was pretty hard. My belly doesn't hurt too much now and I'm starting to figure out what I can drink. I was glad to see in your blog that you had a weight gain also(not in a WEIGHT GAIN way!) because I was pretty concerned when I stepped on the scale this morning and discovered that I had gained 2 lbs. How is that possible??? I didn't have any food for over 2 days and I gain weight? It must be all of the IV's and anethesia. Good luck to all of you-this is a whole new uncharted territory for us.

    Any July Bandsters??

I was banded on July 13th and I have to say, so far, so good. I'm not in much pain and I really don't have much appetite. Only four 1/2" incisions and one 2" incision all up pretty high on my abdomen so not suffering too much. Feel like I did a few hundred crunches (yeah, like that will happen!). Had a little nausea post surgery, but it went pretty well. I even took a little walk outside last evening with my dh... Hang in there! It's only as scary as you make it out to be. (My starting BMI was 40.4 and I'm 46 yrs.

    Any July Bandsters??

First time posting but am so glad to see how many of you share tomorrow as surgery day. I'm glad to see my stocking up on liquids and cleaning the house isn't all that strange. I am also a little worried and anxious but feel like the program I went through prepared me for what's coming. Hoping for all of us to have a quick and easy surgery that we sail through and meet on the other side later in the week. Good luck to all of you tomorrow...
