  5. I was revised from LapBand to sleeve on 10/18 and so far, so good. Just went back to work yesterday and other than some fatigue, it's going well. I was released to exercise at my appointment on Monday so today was my first real attempt at a workout. Went really well-couldn't do anything that used my core because it hurt, but I did a 20 minute walk/run! Not too many food issues, only a problem with an overripe banana that made me feel like I was going to explode. I won't be using any bananas in a Protein shake for a while. I've had two stalls but I'm down 21 since surgery, 26 since pre op. I'm glad that I took measurements though. I've been measuring myself every two weeks so even when the scale is making me unhappy, the numbers balance it out. I've lost four inches from my hips and chest, two from my waist! In six short weeks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Band vs Sleeve

@@bloomie85 Here's the deal. You are going to get diehard fans of both sleeve and LapBand on here. You are going to have those who believe that their WLS is the only and best. They can find all kind of reasons why they are successful with the band or sleeve and others have failed. But the reality is, only YOU can choose what's best for you. A decision made with your medical team. As I said earlier, do your research and trust what your surgeon tells you. I was the biggest LapBand cheerleader in the world, until things started going bad. I believed that I would not have trouble because I did everything that was asked of me by my weight management center. I had regular routine care, but in the end, my LapBand slipped and I had a prolapsed stomach. I had swallowing issues and couldn't eat most solid Proteins. Yes, in the end I had my LapBand removed and revised to sleeve and I don't regret it for one minute. I no longer have to worry about food getting stuck and feeling like I'm going to die. I no longer have to go I for adjustments and pay thousands of dollars over the years in co pays. I can swallow my food and it goes down my throat. So if the worse thing that I have to deal with is no more Band adjustments, big deal. I'm not going to pretend that the sleeve is perfect, but I'm relieved that my band is gone. I will never again be so smug as to think that my decision is the only right decision because it's not.

    Band vs Sleeve

I had a LapBand placed in 2010 and revised to the sleeve in October. Please do a lot of research before you make a decision. Many surgeons aren't even doing the band anymore because of known complications. I had issues for three of the six years that I had a Band. The last year that numbers were posted, LapBand had dropped to 5% of all WLS. Sleeve is now the most common of all weight loss surgeries at more than 50%. I wish I had known about all the problems I would have-in the end, my esophagus got worn out from the work of pushing food through the restriction of the band. When I swallowed, food would sit in my throat. This is all my opinion, but also my honest experience. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    How Was Your Thanksgiving?

I made it the whole meal for my family but ended up eating a couple ounces of turkey, a few bites of mashed potatoes, a few bites of stuffing and a couple of roasted carrots. I had one bite of a crescent roll, but didn't over do any part of the meal. I made a crustless pumpkin pie for myself and it was delicious! I'm almost six weeks out. Frustration

I also have a soy allergy and completely understand your frustration. Have you tried canned chicken yet? It's pretty tasty and you can use it in lots of recipes-chicken salad, chicken soup, straight out of the can. Also how about refried Beans? I also cook up a package of ground turkey breast with taco seasoning and add that to the refried beans (you can purée the turkey if you are still on puréed). 14. 1. I lost 72 pounds initially and had regained 37 before I started the pre op diet. 2. I had band removal and sleeve revision done in one surgery. I had started having swallowing issues last December. There wasn't much time from when I was told that my band had failed until revision surgery. Just a few months. 3. Only lost 5 lbs. on pre op diet on a four shake/one small meal plan (800-1000 calories) 4. I'm five weeks post op and have lost 25 lbs total, 20 since revision. Fitbit users?

Fitbit Charge 2 user here. I've had no issues with any of the Fitbit products that I've used-this is my 4th Fitbit. The only time I had trouble with the band separating from the monitor, they sent me a new Fitbit. Their customer service is tops! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  19. So my question is to all of you, how many of you are revisions from LapBand? I tend to get really pissy about people who haven't lived with a LapBand judging me for having revision surgery. If you haven't walked in my shoes, don't judge-you haven't experienced multiple "stuck" episodes where you feel like you will die because you cannot even swallow your own saliva. You haven't experienced the feeling of food sitting in your esophagus, not getting past the band, because the Band has impacted your ability to swallow. My request is that you not be quick to judge what you don't know. Don't make assumptions that band failure is strictly caused by the user. Don't judge my ability to be successful with the VSG because I had a device in place that did not work the way it was supposed to. Don't for a minute assume anything about any of us that are forced to revise-I was prepared for my LapBand surgery and I fully expected to have the band until I died. I was compliant with routine maintenance-saw the surgeon, bariatric Doctor, weight management center staff including dietitian and exercise physiologist for over six years and sought out therapy to address my food issues for three years. I don't need any of you to judge whether or not I was worthy of revision surgery. Bottom line is, if this isn't your journey, don't make assumptions about those of us who are. And while I'm on this, why does it matter to you WHY someone is revising?? Does it impact your life if I choose to revise and I am approved by my medical care team? Just saying... Happy today

The smile on my face is because I was able to wear the new size Large tops that I bought at Kohls this week. I had some kohls cash to use and figured that I would buy some warmer tops since its that time of year. Imagine my surprise when I tried one on and it fit!!! Revised from LapBand to sleeve on 10/18. 21. 1. Full feels different now. I'm four weeks out from revision and get full very quickly-I'm on soft foods and can usually eat about 1/4 to 1/2 cup to feel full. Don't overeat! It's not like the band where you can eat a few more bites-if you think you are full, STOP! It will all come back up. 2. Did your program give you a food progression program?? I was two weeks full liquids, two weeks puréed, two weeks soft and then ease into "regular" food. I just moved to soft foods earlier this week. 3. You had surgery on the INSIDE of your stomach. There is a food progression to allow the stitches and staple line inside of your stomach to heal. It didn't feel good because your stomach has an open wound. Call your doctors office or go see a dietitian. You can mess up your recovery if you don't follow the rules. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  24. Had my revision surgery on 10/18/16 from LapBand to sleeve due to esophagus issues from the band. I was banded in 2010. If I can answer any questions, just ask away. Recovery wasn't easy, but it wasn't terrible either. I haven't had any problems with drinking or getting my Protein in. Still off work but that's only because I want to make sure I've got a good handle on food before I return to my job. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    New liquid ideas ! Please

I made a black bean soup that was posted on BariatricEating and it counted as full liquid. Purée one can of drained black Beans, 1/2 salsa and 1 cup of chicken broth and heat. I have a Nutribullet and it was smooth as milk. It kept me full and made me feel like I was eating something. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
