food poisoning? flu? slip?
cb9094 replied to sharcorb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't offer you a lot advice. I have only been banded since 10-15. 1. Make sure you don't get dehydrated. I would go to a 100% liquid diet. Try some Isopure fruit punch, gatorade, warm broth. 2. Go to any doctor (Walgreens clinic etc) and get tested for the flu. 3. Call your surgeon's office and let them know. Partner with them, they are your best source for information for you. 4. Relax. Slippage is a very minor occurrence. Keep us posted. I am thinking of you!! -
Not sure I agree with wearing a med alert bracelet. Seems like overkill. Would you wear one for breast implants or hardware in your knee? I don't think so. I second elcee.

23 days Post Op with itchy, red bumps on stomach
cb9094 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Uuugh! I am an itchy mess. 3 days ago I started getting these little red itchy bumps. They are getting worse...spreading but still localized to my stomach & incision sites. I am calling my Lapband surgeon's office in the AM. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My incisions have been healing wonderful, with no other symptoms. Other than seasonal allergies, I have never reacted to meds/surgery adhesives etc. I've included a picture. I am taking Benedryl with little relief. My detergents have not changed, no new meds or lotions. No fever or body aches etc. Good grief, I am a hot mess! XOXO -
I am so glad that I decided to check out the forum this morning and read up. I was about to post on this SAME ISSUE! I started my pre-op diet Oct.1 at 190.6. I was banded October 15th. The morning of surgery I weighed 180.6. Last week I stalled at 172.6 for 6 days and yesterday I weighed 174.2. I want to cry. I am hungry ALL THE TIME. I can eat anything in any amount. I feel like I have not even been banded. Yesterday I drank two Protein shakes and had a 1/3 cup of Caesar salad and 1/2 cup of Lasagna for dinner. I chew, chew, chew (even thou I can swallow just about any amount). 174.2 on the scale this morning. I too have been suffering from diarrhea but I would get "bouts" before I was banded. Mine tends to be hormonal. I've thought about calling my surgeon to beg for an early fill before I gain anymore weight back. My 1st fill appointment is Nov. 17th. I am trying to breathe, be calm and carry on

Surgery was Friday. This was my day today: I was able to run a couple of errands. I don't feel great and at times would get this pale-cold sweat feeling. I am only taking OTC pain meds now and last night I was able to sleep on my stomach (big relief). The gas pain in my shoulder is all but gone. Now I have lots of bloating in my stomach - sternum area. My back is also sore (could be gas). I went to a small Vietnamese restaurant today and ordered beef broth and unsweet tea. It was heavenly not to eat something out of a bottle or can (& have someone wait on me). I probably ate 1/4 cup of Soup and was full. My Protein shakes are making me dry heave right now. I think before surgery I would drink them very fast with a straw and now I have to drink them much slower. My gag reflex is in full force  Most of my pain right now is when I try to "burp". Not only is it an unproductive feeling but it hurts. Any comments? One last thing...did I read something about not drinking with a straw?? Please comment... All in all this big baby is doing fine. XOXO- cb

It went smoothly. No problems with IV, etc. Felt great. I had to have a hernia repair that was unexpected so my surgery took 1 hour instead of 30 mins. Surgeon repaired and banded. He also filled my band with 4ccs. I have had no problems with drinking liquids. Yesterday I drank Water, crystal light and a small amount of chicken broth. Here is where I get honest. The pain for me has been bad. I have had very sharp stabbing pain from the gas in my left shoulder, neck and it radiates into my ear. I am walking, doing arm circles and stretches. I am also taking Gas-X. This pain has been the worst. I came home with a nausea patch behind my ear that causes really bad dry mouth. So, I have also been sucking on these little Nerd brand hard candies (I am using something small incase I accidently swallow before it dissolves). I still dry heaved several times (which scares you to death) but felt better afterwards. Last night's sleep was fitful at best but I am coping. Yesterday was rough but I mentally knew it would past, I just had to keep telling my body. Today, I look better but I am still dealing with shoulder pain (not as bad as yesterday). My stomach area is very sore now and I also feel it in my back. Rest is tough. I am going to try and not take prescription pain meds and keep it to only advil. I suffer from Migraines and narcotics have been known to trigger my headaches--I just don't want to risk it. So far, that's it. I am a big baby and this hurts. However, I knew it would and I am coping. Everyday should get better Good Luck- CB I've attached a picture of my incisions. Sorry for the quality, I took it with my blackberry phone.

Yes, I am nervous. Yes, I am tired of the pre-op diet (all 14 days of it!). Yes, I lost 10lbs in 14 days. Please say a prayer for me (& all of us getting banded tomorrow). Breathe, Breathe, Breathe.... -CB Houston,TX BMI: 32

Time to find another Doctor (one that is informed on diet drugs). Listen to these smart forum people. You will find your own path

So EXCITED! I found out during my pre-op appointment (yesterday), that my surgeon fills the band during surgery. He says that he has been doing this for 2 years now and has found that this more aggressive approach has several benefits: 1. Patients lose weight their first month 2. Less "trial & error" with fills when trying to find the green zone of weight loss 3. Does wonders mentally for a patient when they can control hunger and start losing weight immediately 4. Due to the strict 14 day pre-op diet that he has his patient go on, his patients are better able to handle the immediate fill 5. If on the slim case a patient can't tolerate the fill, it is very easy to remove some of the saline. Of course you are given a barium x-ray before you are discharged from the surgery center. I hope I wrote down everything correctly! I will also be getting a new kind of slimmer port with my band. I LOVE MY SURGEON (and his nurse, Nate (i think this was his name) was super sweet too). 10-15-10 can't come soon enough!! I would love to hear your thoughts- -CB

I am new to the forum, so please excuse me if I ever post in the wrong thread etc. Hopefully I will get the hang of this forum stuff :smile2: Today was day ONE of my 14 day pre-op diet: Starting Weight: 190.4 BMI: 33.8 Surgery Date: 10/15/10 Surgeon Information (Dr. Hollis / Houston) What I ate today: 1 20oz bottle of Isopure Punch 3 oz Turkey Jerky 1 Myoplex Low Carb shake 1 Crystal Light Focus Drink Mix (w/ Caffeine) 1 Crystal Light Pure added to Smart Water 1 Medium Sonic Unsweet Tea with Lime 1 sugar-free Jello (not pictured) Water, Water, Water Total: 520 calories / 113 grams Protein / 11 grams carbs Thoughts: I feel excited and nervous about everything (weight-loss related) right now. Today's pre-op diet pretty much sucked. In fact, I feel a little nauseated. I am not really hungry but feel a little unsatisfied. I am trying hard to stay focused on the big picture and not get bogged down in all the little details. My stomach already feels flatter - emptier. I have 13 more days to go. I am looking forward to meeting others on in this group! XOXO:thumbup:
