  1. I am in my 4th week banded now and consider myself to be doing good. I am trying to eat mostly proteins: eggs, beef, ground turkey, beans, etc. I'm content doing this, but, I have noticed multiple posts of "more experienced banders" that mention that they eat pasta, rice and breads. These were "taboo" according to my surgeon and the nurse at the weight loss center. These were all foods that they said are likely to get stuck, so for now I am staying away, But I am wondering if someday I may be able to have a little pasta now and then...Pasta is a passion. I am staying away for sure right now to avoid a trigger:unsure:, but, is it safe to try a little now and then? Thanks in advance for any and all comments

    Confused Re: Foods

Sorry...read two messages and combined content =) Decision has been made, however...no pasta's breads or rice until I am Much closer to goal...don't want to risk the temptation or possibly getting stuck. Will get my carbs from my veggies for now.

    Confused Re: Foods

thanks melissa =) yes I am eatting my veggies. raw as well as cooked and have tried raisins in salads and apples. I eat my protein (meat generally) first and then any veggies and last any carbs if there is room. there have been a few times I have wanted a cracker or a sugar free ice cream sandwich...but was afraid to have anything that was "breadlike". I know we are all different, I will probably try a little something like you suggested a little down the road. For now, since I am loosing, I guess I'll stick with what I'm doing. Have a wonderful daY! Thanks AGAIN

    What do I do?

hi Auddie, I'm still new to the band, so may not be the best person to give advice, but, I wanted to tell you that you can overcome whatever obstacle is holding you back =) Are you maxed out on fills? I was wondering how you would do to go back to a diet like immediate post-op (liquids for a few days, then high protein?) just a thought. Whatever you decide know there are people here that are supportive. God Bless!
  6. Call your insurance provider and see what they have to say. There may be some hoops to jump through, but there may still be hope, especially if your pcp is on board. Good luck!
  7. Talome, Straws can cause gas...try drinking your liquids without the straw. Also, the gas from surgery can last for several days. Feel better soon. Good luck with your band

    Is this normal?

This sounds like what I experienced and so did a friend that had her band 3 days after mine. It lasted about 8 or 10 days and would sometimes come back when I ate, but is gone now. Certain things will cause gas/belching now that didn't used to bother me, but, I have found if I walk around that seems to help. Hope this helps. Congrats on your band! hope all goes well. God Bless:smile::thumbup:
  9. Tomorrow I will be 3 weeks post op. This past week I had a minor family emergency and had to drive 4 hours to my home town, spent a lot of time on the road once I got there, then did a lot of bending and lifting (Tried to assure I didn't lift more than 15 to 20 lbs) then drove back home 4 hours. I am really, really, sore now. I feel like I did the 2nd or 3rd day after surgery or worse. I had planned going back to work tomorrow, but, since I am a massage therapist, I'm not sure I can, being this sore. Has anyone experienced this kind of intense soreness after resuming some activities? I feel as though I am going backwards:ohmy: If anyone has "gone backwards", how long did the soreness last? Thanks for any words of wisdom:smile2:

    A little advice pleeeze

Thanks for your replies. Even though I hate to do it, I'm considering taking the week off, just to be safe. My clients have been calling the office and my cell to check on me, and have all told me they want me to come back when I am well healed...I was feeling sooo good. It is frustrating to seemingly go backwards, but as you both pointed out, not taking care of myself surely helped me get where I am now.

    today is day 5

Hi Monday, I also was banded this past Monday. I had one brief episode of nausea during recovery, but none since then. My post op orders say to notify the MD if vomiting...that vomiting is not normal. PLEASE contact your doctor again and insist on some answers or on being seen. I did notice I was more likely to feel "yucky" if I sipped to much to fast. MAybe try some ice chips. I hope you feel better soon. Hang in there:smile:

    August 2010 anyone?

Hi Kurby, I'm hoping for late July or early August. My insurance/weight loss clinic has required 6 month physician supervised weight loss and multiple tests, including a psych test. I have completed all but one dr's visit and a meeting with the dietician...my next hoop will be to get an appointment with the surgeon. Depending on how long it takes to get in to see him will decide when I get a surgery date, and this is still depending on if I get approval from insuarance. The road has been long, but has given me the opportunity to thoroughly think it through and given my hubby time to get on board as well. I have felt confident about the surgery and results since my decision back in Dec 2009, but, recently have had a few friends express concern, which I must admit has me a little nervous, but, I'm not ready to reconsider. This forum has helped, somewhat, and I'm sure talking with the surgeon will help too. I am 5'4 1/2" tall begiining weight was 310# Weight today is 285# 45 yrs old....46 on Tues. Look forward to sharing the journey to a thinner us!

    Any July Bandsters??

Hi Espresso, I am hoping to see the surgeion in July and band late July or early August. Little apprehensive, but am glad I have found LBT to help answer a lot of questions and know I am not in this boat alone. I noticed you were having your surgery yesterday. Just wanted to wish you well. Hope everything was easy for you and wishing you much success in the future.
