    Can someone help me understand

I am glad I found this posting. This is something I've been struggling with. I try hard to stick to 3/4 to 1 cup of food, sometimes I do a little more than that, but my PA said that it was ok to drink with meals. I don't eat more because I have a drink, it just helps me feel better. I don't have problems with my restriction. I can normally go 4 1/2 - 5 hrs before eating. If you measure your food by weight, how much is ok to eat? Some things weigh more, but don't take as much room and some things are light weight and take up a whole cup and it's like maybe 4 pieces of broccoli for example.

    Sleeping with the band

I was always a stomach sleeper. After surgery however, I slept in a half-sitting position and have just kind of gotten used to starting out like that. I usually am still on my back when I wake up, but I'll be more reclined. It took me a long time before I felt comfortable sleeping on my side, now I do sleep on my side sometimes.

Everyone says only eat if you are hungry, but...

Sometimes I'll eat something at 5hrs after a meal, even if I'm not hungry, because I need to get something in to me. I am a serious clock watcher. I usually have my meals at about 8:15a, 1:15p and 6:15p. When i'm off that schedule, I'm a mess.

    sonic food

If I eat something that probably isn't a good food choice, I try to make up for it through out the rest of the day. I don't like to eat salads anymore and I'm doing really good at staying away from french fries and cheeseburgers. If I eat a cheeseburger, I don't eat most of the bun. I love chicken nuggets/strips, so I would get those if I went to Sonic.

    Need some encouragement

You're doing great, so hang in there. I wish mine was coming off a little faster, but I know it's healthier to lost about 1 lb a week (that's my average). I have lost about 47 lbs since my pre-op diet in August. That's good for 5 months, so I try not to worry about things too much and I keep on exercising.

My Biggest Fear Is Coming True . . .

Give it some time. My weight loss slowed down a bit, but it's not too bad. It's healthier for it to come off slower. Hang in there. Try just walking at first. I started off slow myself. ...and walking is actually a really good exercise. You can do it.

    3rd Fill & Dog Walking

I got my 3rd fill today. Just .8 cc and it freaked me out when the PA said I might have a bruise, because she had trouble finding the port. She clarified this by saying she meant the part where she actually places the needle. I totally did not like how it felt today. Each fill, I've been a bit sore for awhile. Does everyone have this issue? Am on liquids for a day, then soft/mushy for a day and then back to regular food. I'm going to be working on eating 3/4 cup of food instead of 1 cup. It is depressing, because it doesn't seem like you can enjoy your food, when you're only eating such a little amount. ...but, I know that this band is working. I've been getting in the habit of walking my Lab at night. ...and I have to say I do talk to my animals.... So, last night I told him that sometime this year, I'll only weigh a little more than him. He's about 100 lbs and my goal weight is about 110-115. I'll just see how how like that weight, but that should be good, because I don't want to be bony.

    Discouraged...

Hang in there. I mentally have to remind myself that I can't eat more, even when I really want to. It is a struggle sometimes, because sometimes I just want to eat and eat. Make sure you get enough protein and that should help you feel full for longer period of time. I get worried about the possibility of stretching my pouch, but I'm guessing that long-term overeating would cause that. If I feel like I've eaten too much, I have something to drink to wash it down, but I don't let myself eat anymore.

Preop diet to get back on track?

I agree. More Protein at meals and no Snacks. I will sometimes have a small tidbit of something in between meals, but I don't snack between every meal. By the way, I have considered doing liquid/soft food diet for a couple of days or more, to see if I can jump start a little more weight loss.

I got the lap-band because of it being the least invasive. Good luck to you.

    My baby utensils...

I have a Winnie-The-Pooh toddler plate that has one bigger section and two little sections. I try to use that or a salad plate.

    Major NSV's today!

    How awesome. Congratulations!

    First fill on Thursday!

I've had 3 fills. The first one was weird. The second one didn't hurt. ...but the third one did not feel good. The PA said she had to 'find' the port. She knew where it was, it was just finding the spot to stick the needle in. I normally feel a little odd following a fill, but it's not horrible or anything. Good luck to you.

    Down Time

I sit at a desk, but I wasn't telling anyone I had the surgery, so I wanted to play it safe when I went back. I think I only took about 7 days off after surgery. I could have taken another day or so, but we had a big meeting that I didn't want to miss.

    NSV!!!

Awesome!!! Congratulations. I'm looking to take a trip in March and am interested to see how much more comfortable I'll be in the seat.
  20. I need to know if it's 'safe' to use these. I had bought some, thinking that because it is drinkable, that it would be a good way to get some Vitamins. Especially, Vitamin C with the cold/flu season going on. ...and i just realized that (duh) it says fizzy right on the box. My question is whether or not there is too much fizzy (gas/carbonation) in these little packets, to be safe drinking with the band? I have had no apparent side affects from when I have taken a packet, so just need to know if it would hurt the band.

Feel like I could eat non stop today

Ladies - I am right there with you. I have had many days like that also. Like tonight, I had some Charro (mexican-style) pinto Beans I had made this afternoon, but even though I had eaten my portion size, I still felt hungry. I didn't eat any more though, except for one bite of something sweet (to satisfy that craving). I'm still hungry right now.

    The Long & Winding Road

Awesome that you have all that support. I was banded on 09/08/10 and have lost almost 45 lbs. I wish it was a little more, but realistically, it is pretty good. Good luck to you.

    Deskercise

I do leg lifts to the side and the back (contracting the muscles). I also stand on the balls of my feet and raise my ankles. It works the muscles in my calves and thighs.

    Drinking during meals

I was doing pretty good with not drinking during meals and waiting a 1/2 hours afterwards. ...but, I told the lady that does my fills that I may take a sip or two if I felt like I really needed it and she said it was okay to drink with a meal. So, I have been drinking some more with meals, but when I do, I do not let myself eat more. I still stick to the amount of food I've measured out. I am however trying to get back to not drinking during meals.
