I was told to have protein drinks the very next day after surgery, as well as Greek yogurt and pudding.

    mmm.. PEANUT BUTTER

I did a search here for shakes and found someone who listed a bunch of shake recipes and on that list was Peanut Butter balls, they were so great. 1/2 c peanut butter 1/4 c honey 1 scoop vanilla Protein powder Roll them into balls and place in fridge till chilled. I'm going to try it with chocolate protein powder next time, I think it would be great, chocolate in my peanut butter, mmmm.

    It's Going to Hurt!

I'm so glad to hear that, just had surgery July 23rd and have been worrying about the fill. I look at my incision and just can not imagine a needle going in there, :scared2: Thank you for posting.

    Any Bandsters from Louisiana?

Benton, Louisana here, Merriman too, surgery this past Friday, July 23rd. After my first visit with him I almost didn't go back, he would ask me questions and then act like I talked too much for trying to answer. I figured it out by the second question, he didn't want me to answer, just listen. You don't really see him much, it is mostly his staff, and they are VERY, VERY NICE. I know that he is one of the most experienced surgeons in Louisiana and that counts for a lot, I want someone that has been doing this for years and has it down to a science. I'm happy with my choice.
  5. Had my surgery Friday, July 23rd, came home same day, pain wasn't too bad it was just so hard getting up and down. I had a hernia that had to be repaired so I have three small cuts and one 2-inch cut for the port, that one is the worst. Lying on my side is tough but I can do it. I'm only taking the pain meds at night so that I can get a good night rest. Walking around the house during the day I feel stiff around the port cut and it seems to be a little swollen but not red or hot like an infection. I've planned to go back to work tomorrow (Wednesday) but my husband and mother think I should take one more day. I'm a bank teller and I'm very short so my concern is how am I going to get on and off of my teller stool, it is much taller than me. I still nap a couple of times during the day since the surgery and I'm not sure if my energy level is ready for work.

July 23 (tomorrow) is the Big Day

Have to be at the hospital at 5:30am, surgery scheduled for 7:30. I am so excited but sooooo scared at the same time. I hope I can get some sleep tonight, normally I would have a couple of glasses of wine at night before a big day but don't think that would be wise tonight. I've gathered the things I need to take with me in the morning, got my comfy clothes ready, washing the bed sheets, have all of my liquids and protein powders, and have the house clean. What more do I need to do? It seems so weird to sit here and think that in 10 hours my whole life will change. Tomorrow at this time it will all be over and I will be on my way to the me I used to be.

    Any July Bandsters??

My surgery is tomorrow, going to the hospital today at 1:00 for pre-op stuff then to doctor for more stuff. I'm getting so excited but so scared I'm getting an upset stomach. Do they have you do an enima the night before, I don't want to have an accident when I am out on the table.
  9. Having my surgery July 23rd, post-op visit on July 19th. Just found out my blood work showed I was Vit D deficient, I'm sure they will go over this at my post-op visit but I was wondering if anyone is supplementing vit D after LapBand? Is there a liquid version? I know I could get it from the sun but I am very faired skinned and I avoid the sun like, well, like I'm a vampire.

To Support Or Not to Support

Once the surgery is over it will be easy to talk to my Mom about everything I will be going through. She wants me to do this, it was her that encouraged me to look in to it. She just knows she will worry herself sick knowing I am going into surgery so it is best for her to stay in the dark until then. I understand where she is coming from but it is just so hard for me not to keep quite. This is such a big event in my life. My husband and the people I work with are very supportive and are becoming so educated about LapBand because I tell them everything. Having this blog is also such a boost also, I love talking to you guys and every time I hit that "Post Now" button it is like release of emotions and stresses.

To Support Or Not to Support

Just got home from work, made myself call my Mom, not home so I left her a message to call me when she got in. She wants me to get banded but doesn't want to know when I do it. She agrees that this is going to prolong my life and keep me from suffering from many obese illnesses. So I have been avoiding talking to her just because it is so hard not talking about everything I'm doing without saying "...gotta do this because in two weeks I will have surgery" or "...need to make these changes because I've only got two more weeks" you know just the idle chitchat that you do without even realizing what you've just reveled. I am so excited about my new life that it is all I talk about at work, at home (poor husband), online, everywhere and anywhere. The 23rd of July can not get here fast enough for so many reasons.

    My first blog ever

I have never blogged before, heard a lot about it just never had anything to write about. I like the idea of having something I can look back at and see how I was feeling. I just had my EDG, EKG, chest x-rays, blood work-up, and nutritionist appointment on Wednesday and Thursday. I passed all test, hurray! I have to call the surgeons office on Tuesday, not sure why, I guess for them to tell me the actual results. Still have two weeks until my surgery. Nutritionist said to eat a high protein very low carb diet, she gave a list of what to eat and not. As I write I am having strawberry Greek yogurt, very high in protein. Strawberry is much better than the vanilla. Was told I didn't have to lose weight just not gain any, but losing some would be beneficial to the surgery. In the past two weeks I have lost about 3lbs, haven't put a lot of effort into it but haven't been over eating either. My mind keeps reminding me that I should be eating all of my favorites because it will soon be over but I'm going through one of those spells where there is just nothing I really want, I'm kinda blah right now. Which is a good thing for my diet right now, can't say how I will feel next week. :smile2: Okay that's enough for now.

    10 Days Till BAND!!!!!

I'll be banded in 11 days, and like you I am so excited. Been making plans for all I need to have done within the next two weeks, like getting the house in order, liquids stocked up, proteins ordered. Deciding what I will wear home. I feel kinda like a pregnant woman, nesting and planning for the baby to come home.

    My first blog ever

Thank you to everyone for your kind words, I am so exciting about getting banded. And so exciting about being part of such a great group of people. And...excited about finally being a blogger.

    Any July Bandsters??

I'm scheduled for July 23rd, had all of my pre-op testing done yesterday, passed with flying colors. Waiting for blood work to come back, should be fine. I was told to stay on a high protein very low carb diet (Atkins) for the next two weeks. Don't have to lose weight but it wouldn't hurt, mostly just maintain. I'll be using the next two weeks trying to find the liquid protein supplements my doctor office has suggested. What is everyone using, anything better than others? Amazon sells most all of the ones in the list they gave me but they come in such large quantities that I'm afraid I may not like them and then what? This is what my docs office suggests: Pro-Stat 64 LiquaCel Profect Protein Shot Nectar Pro-Pudding I'm so worried about getting plenty of protein, I've read that you can start losing hair and my hair is too thin now for me to lose any.

    Cravings

I have wondered the same thing, my first appointment is July 1st, so I'm not dieting as of yet. With all other diets I've been on it seems like I start to crave foods I normally don't want. Like chicken fried steak, I never eat that until I'm on a diet then I want it BADLY. I know that I will get deathly ill if I eat certain things after the lap band, but how do you get past it. I like the brushing you teeth thing I have done that in the past and it cures a fleeting craving but some of mine become obsessions. How do you deal with those?
  18. I have told everyone what I am planning on doing, I need the extra support. I'm even considering making YouTube videos for a couple of reasons. One for myself so I can see where I came from and two so that I maybe can offer some help or info for others. I've been watching other peoples vids and they are giving me so much more insight into what I'm planning on doing. Are you afraid you MIL will discourage you or make you feel bad about your decision?

    TV commercials

Chili's handmade hamburgers get me every time, so thick and juicy, mmmm!!
  21. I'm in Shreveport, LA and have decided to see Dr. Merriman. I have given them my insurane info and of course my insurance doesn't cover anything. So I will be self-pay, I am shopping for a loan, does anyone have any suggestions? Also, I'm thinking of starting a blog of my adventure, mostly for me to reflect back on. I've seen some people's YouTube video blogs, while I love watching them I don't know if I'm comfortable enough to be seen on video. If you have documented your course either by written blog or video let me know how and how it has worked for you. I'm just so excited about this I have been researching everything I can. I'm looking for something to do so I feel involved and a part of the group before I actually get started.
