29Feb - losingjusme's plastics day
She Smiles replied to losingjusme's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
LJM your new belly button is awesome!! -
This was happening to me when I was running. I went and bought some good quality running socks (that cost me and arm and a leg!) rather than just wearing "sports socks" I got at a department store. Problem solved immediately.

Try them tomorrow morning, my surgeon actually saw me on a Saturday morning, perhaps yours will be in his office for some reason too. Failing that just call them first thing Monday and explain the situation. Try not to stress yourself out about it all weekend (I know, easier said than done!), it will probably all work out! Good luck!

Changes to Private Health Insurance

Thanks I'll look into it. I've got top hospital (12 months ticks over in August for that so I'd have to wait until then anyway). I thought I might have to wait the 12 months because it would be something my previous cover with the different fund didn't cover, so was a new coverage, so to speak. Worth looking into, when I have time! -
My only regret isn't specifically band related. I wish I had of planned ahead for the cost of plastic surgery. Its too much out of my financial reach right now and had I started saving on day one of my band, I'd be in a better place to be thinking about it now 17 months out when I feel I need it. That said, I would never give up my band. I'm happier and healthier 100+ pounds lighter.

Mines not quote as ridiculous, but I was telling a friend the other day the foods I can't eat and she was all "what?!?! you can't eat lettuce??" I responded with "well it suits me, as does not being 115 kilos anymore".

Changes to Private Health Insurance

Thanks, I'll have a look into them. I'm getting desperate! -
I'm with Chickie. Maybe get a month membership at a gym and try out the various classes they have, then you're not locked into it for the long term if it doesn't work out. I definitely felt like a clumsy elephant my first little while at the gym, in fact I am still not the most co-ordinated of people, but I learnt quickly that I had to get past that "people are looking at me" mentality. Other people there are there to do what you are - exercise and get fit, they're not there to people watch (and if they are, they're freaks and need help! haha). I didn't love running (which is my exercise of choice) straight away, but once I saw the effects it had on my body, it made me want to get out there and do it to continue the weight loss. Perhaps you might feel the same in time with something you try out. Start slow, give yourself time and you'll get there. Good luck!

Changes to Private Health Insurance

Hmm what/where is R&T? I ask because the PS I went to see gave me item numbers for the body lift he quoted me for but NIB (the fund I am with now) only covers plastic surgery if the surgeon will do it under their medigap scheme, which the surgeon wouldn't (more details on my blog below if anyone is interested). Perhaps I should change funds and wait out the 12 month waiting period, because I'm almost never going to have the $20k to pay it out of pocket. And well, I REALLY want that darn surgery. -

How long have you had your lap band?
She Smiles replied to dejageel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm at 17 months, so not an old timer really. But I've passed my surgeon's goal and am almost at my own (his was 80 kilos and mine is 65). I've not had any major problems, I had a minor incident where I had a stomach bug and needed an unfill, but other than the VERY occasional PB, I'd have to say its all gone to plan for me as far as my band goes. (I still struggle with my food issues though, I'll be honest about that). My Dad has had his band almost 3 1/2 years though. He has had some problems with reflux and finding the right fill level, but he still says its the best things he ever did. He no longer has sleep aponea and is on reduced medication levels for other things he'd had for many years (and is even off some medications all together). We love our bands! -
Fantastic news! Best of luck Lauren.

My hair continued to fall out for about 8 months after banding, which was when I lost the majority of my weight. I have really thick hair though so it didn't bother me much. The annoying thing was when it grew back and I had all the little different lengthed hairs sticking out all over the place on my hair line and in my part. Looked ridiculous!

Will I end up needing cosmetic surgery?
She Smiles replied to Brinabrina77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree 100% with what Losingjusme has said. I also think "needing" is open to intepretation. I feel that I need plastic surgery to feel like my weight loss journey is complete (I won't be getting it, but thats a whole other story), but I can and will probably live with my body the way it is. I have lost over 100 pounds and while I don't look like a bikini model because of my loose skin and residual fat, I certainly could look a lot worse. I guess it just boils down to whether each individual can live with the end result - some people can't because it impares their ability to live a normal life. Luckily I'm not one of them (I'd still LOVE to have a body lift though!). -

What would you do different??
She Smiles replied to yourowndestiney's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would have started saving for reconstructive plastic surgery the day I was banded. Other than that, nothing. -
I couldn't have driven myself the half hour drive home from the hospital the day after surgery, even as a passenger I was a bit of a mess still and every bump in the road hurt. I think I drove on about day 4 or 5 to the local shops, walked around for about half an hour and was too exhausted to drive home. Luckily hubby was with me and drove home. I think a 4 hour drive straight after surgery (even as a passenger - unless you have GOOD pain meds) might be a bit ambitious.....

The PS I saw a few weeks back said there was no problem really, just that I might end up with a bit of a pudge/sagging skin after a pregnancy, but well, I'd have a baby to show for that. He said I had as much chance of looking perfect afterwards as anyone else, it was really down to genetics/my skin and how well I looked after my skin/body during the pregnancy.
