How easy or difficult has it been to lose weight with Lap Band?
speck replied to photo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions

Do you ever have problems with the band though? Like being stuck or any other complications? Do/did you follow an exact eating plan as given by doctor? Anything you want to add is appreciated.

-
Are you completely happy with your lap band decision.

Thanks for your reply. Especially to those of us who are going to have it done and then think "what did I do". Sandra -
Yogurt, mayo, butter, salad dressings, etc. ? I've heard that lap banders should eat low fat but full fat always keeps me fuller longer and keeps my sugar levels more stable. Just curious if anyone does indeed eat full fat products. TIA
-
Thanks everyone. I learned something new today. Full fat has nothing to do with the band itself. Thanks
-
So with being banded and eating real butter and mayo it doesn't bother you with the band? I'm not quite sure what the reasoning is about the fat free. Is it because of weight issues or the band itself?

Swimsuit pictures!!! For all you daring bandters

I'm a newbie here. All I can say about some of the post on this thread is WOW! Sometimes people ask, do, behave in a certain way that I absolutely don't understand or agree with. And because of that, it's best that I leave people like that alone. I don't consider what they do wrong because I don't have authority to say who is right or wrong. Self righteousness never got me anywhere. I'm just saying. -
This is a spinoff to most agreeable foods. What foods do you find you must stay away from?
-
I thought this would be a great way to possibly help others. I am new to Lap Band and of course I know we are all different but it does help to know what seems to be agreeable foods to all bandsters. What are your sure bets?

Did U Have 2 Have The 500+ Psychological Evaluation?
speck posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I went for my psych test today and she asked questions for an hour and at the end she said we will do the testing in a few days and then we're finished. I was like I have to have more testing and that's when she explained the 585ish questions. She said it's mandatory. I went to someone locally here so I wonder if it would be different if I would have went to someone the Dr. recommended.(which the dr said I could go to whomever) Anways, disappointed about that. Dang, 585 questions??? -

Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate all the great information. Sandra -
Hi, I'm just curious if after you were banded if you were afraid to exercise, bend over etc. I see where several posters had a tummy tuck. That just amazes me. I would think the port would move to much or something. TIA Sandra

Slip out of place, come unstitched, etc. To give you an idea---- think of someone who just had a tummy tuck and they go to the gym for the first time when the Dr. gives clearance. I would guess that some people might be afraid to do that first pull up. My question has nothing to do with not wanting to exercise- it's just having a foreign object in my body and then doing normal things. Again, I think I will be walking around stiff for a while. -

Actually that never crossed my mind. (excuse not to exercise) It's the fear of having a foreign object in me and worrying that something might happen to it. I have a feeling I will be walking around very stiff for a while. :wink2: -
Thanks everyone for the replies. Sandra

did the surgery help you with that or do you still struggle with it. I know several people who have had the surgery but because they are binge eaters they still struggle with the weight. Any feedback is appreciated.
-
How did/are you coping with that? I am in the process of trying to get approved with insurance. This surgery is something I have looked into for a little over a year now. I know this isn't a cure all. I know I have to do my part. I do plan on going to counseling because I am a binge eater and I dont' believe it just goes away. What about you- how do you handle this? TIA Sandra

I'm still pondering this surgery. I keep thinking about the seminar I attended. I know this won't be a miracle cure but I am doing it because everything I have tried has failed. On that note, the Drs. said I will have to make a lifestyle change. I will need to exercise and completely change eating habits. Well if that's the case I won't succeed with the surgery anyways. That's why I've never been able to do it anyways. Hello? Anyways, just sharing thoughts.

I've been seeing a commercial on television about the Lap Band. Does anyone know the 800 that is given? Thanks
-
Well today I went to the seminar to the two Dr. I had decided on. I will have to say I came away thinking I will probably not have the lap band. I'm not sure that I want to commit to the on-going dr visit for life. (3 hrs away) Also, the physicians in my opinion are more for the bypass surgery instead. The Dr who performs the lap band said in the past the lap band was not good in the US and basically most Dr's stop doing it. It was only when the Austrialian Dr's came up with a different way and started training American Dr's did it improve. Only problem he said it is only 13 years out and no,one knows the long term affects. Soooooooooo after hearing both sides (lap vs. gastric) I decided I am undecided and will not do anything at this time. I realize that my ins may decide not to cover the surgery in the future but I will just have to take my chances. Also, I found it interesting that if something went wrong with the lap band and it was removed, I would gain the weight back no matter what. I asked the Dr how that was possible since over time the stomach would shrink and therefore would adjust but he said that is not the way it works. Anyways, thanks for listening and now I am back to where I was. I really thought I would be doing this. Disappointed.
-
Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it. I decided I AM going to go to another seminar by two different Drs.(same practice) and see what happens. If I walk away thinking the same thing I will just stay put as is. If not, I will proceed forward. Thanks again, Happy Holidays.

I'm not trying to stir anything up but-------- I'm really not sure where you picked up the Disillusion from except the fact I didn't know you would gain ALL weight back if the band was removed. I went to the seminar to learn because I'm not a Dr and I don't have the expertise about the surgery. Also, I'm not looking for a quick fix---- never worked before-- I sure don't expect it now. What I was looking for was something to help my sugar levels. (diabetic) The Dr. explained while it will be great for my diabetes to lose the weight, I would still be doing the math as far as carbs etc. With the bypass, the diabetes goes away 90% of the time. The Dr. mentioned when the patient leave the hospital they are no longer on insulin which is wonderful. Thanks for the imput.

by having the lap band surgery. I have learned so much from this board it is amazing. However, I really didn't think about all the incisions that are going to be made over time with the fills. How do you feel about that? (scars) Yes, it's better to have scars than fat hanging but----------

If this is for a lifetime how often do you have to go to the Dr
speck posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm asking because I live 2 hours from the dr who will do surgery. (that is the closest place)
