A strange request for all those who like myoplex!
BlackBerryJuice replied to groovearmada's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I know Myoplex sells both jars and packets of protein powder, I would presume that it's the same kind that they use to prepare their RTD shakes. Maybe stop by your area GNC or get a few samples online? -

Vietnamese salad rolls - light and healthy!
BlackBerryJuice posted a topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
This is one of my favorite warm-weather recipes. The prep's a bit tedious, but you can cut up all the ingredients at once and store them in the fridge in tupperware for several days to make fresh rolls in 2 minutes whenever you feel like it. You will need: grilled or boiled pork tenderloin, thinly sliced, with each slice cut lengthwise once again cooked shrimp - shelled and cut in half lengthwise cucumber - cut into matchsticks carrots - cut into matchsticks fresh basil - just the leaves fresh mint - just the leaves cooked rice stick noodles rice paper peanut sauce - you should be able to find this at any Asian grocery store or in the International Foods aisle at Walmart or other big grocery stores. You can also make your own, it's fairly straightforward, just Google it. Get a decent-sized working space, arrange all the ingredients within reach, and fill up a big bowl with warm Water. Put a sheet of rice paper in warm water for about 1-2 minutes until it's completely wet and pliable. Be careful handling them, they can tear easily. Spread the sheet of rice paper on the table and arrange all the ingredients (minus the sauce, of course) lengthwise. Example here: chicken and shrimp, just chicken, grilled fish, or you can make vegetarian/vegan options and add avocado or grilled tofu. If you are going to make a bunch ahead of time and store them, it's best to wrap each individual roll in saran wrap - otherwise, the rolls will stick to each other and tear when you pull them apart. -

It's amazing how the same height/weight combo spans from very lean and lanky to noticeably overweight on different people.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR GOAL WEIGHT IS HIGHER THAN WHAT MY BMI SAYS?
BlackBerryJuice replied to Godsfavoraintfair's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, you'll be hearing it regardless! My boyfriend starting singing to the "you're too skinny, don't lose any more!" tune around 165 lbs - just a few pounds under the "obese" range for me. My mother said I look amazing and shouldn't lose another pound when she first saw me post-surgery at 150 (just when I hit the overweight/normal weight cut-off). I sent her my photos at 140 and she once again said I look great and shouldn't lose any more. I'm sure if I lost 5 lbs more, she'd say the exact same thing! I think when you have a lot of extra weight on you, you don't really realize the sheer amount of fat you are carrying, and other people have a hard time picturing you at an average size. I couldn't really imagine going below 150, either, but now I can see that I could theoretically even get to 130 and not look bony, although I don't necessarily want to go down that low. -
Do you lose the weight uniformly ?
BlackBerryJuice replied to kemo46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same as when I'd lose weight before the surgery - from the top down. -
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome...
BlackBerryJuice replied to wendy1974's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't you wonder when you hear your doctor say ALL your problems will resolve when you lose weight? Most will, but I do feel that sometimes they are too quick to assume ALL your medical issues are due to weight. E.g. I expected my knee pain/tightness to go away after losing weight, but while it's a little bit better, it's definitely still there! That statement about carpal tunnel going away with weightloss seemed a bit fishy to me....I guess I could see how it might work, but it just seems unlikely. I do recall being taught that CP is more common in obese individuals. But here's what I found on Google: -
Did you develope Gallbladder issues?
BlackBerryJuice replied to kemo46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8.5 months out and no problems yet *knock on wood.* I pretty much expected to have gallstones, too, as I had issues with gallbladder sludge in childhood. And just like Tarain suggested, I was NOT trying to eat low-fat after the surgery, and my calories weren't crazy-low, either. I was definitely closer to 1000 after 1 month, and 1200-1500 later on. So maybe it IS true that eating more fat will help prevent stones from forming. It certainly makes sense to me, as long as your gallbladder is regularly contracting to expel bile so you could absorb the fat from your diet, you are taking away one of the 3 crucial elements of stone formation - bile stagnation. -
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR GOAL WEIGHT IS HIGHER THAN WHAT MY BMI SAYS?
BlackBerryJuice replied to Godsfavoraintfair's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with the above. And you could definitely weigh 135! I've got a big frame with a lot of muscle and I'm at 139 lbs right now - and I'm 3 inches taller than you. -
What do you plan to eat Easter Sunday?
BlackBerryJuice replied to sychadelic's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm going to my boyfriend's grandparents', so they will be making the dinner. I suspect there'll be turkey, at least I hope so - I've never liked ham, and after a horrendous food poisoning with food bank ham a few years ago, I can't even look at it without feeling sick! I'm making chocolate truffles to bring, so definitely some of those, too! I'm 8+ months out and can eat everything, I'll probably just have about 1/3 of what other people will. -
WTffffff- Esophogitus must be healed before doing surgery!!!
BlackBerryJuice replied to former_vbg's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, that's the one I was thinking of (couldn't recall the name at the moment). It's the same thing they use for asthma, except for you swallow it rather than inhale. But there are some potential complications, e.g. esophageal thrush, so it'll be up to your doctor to decide whether it's the right treatment for you. -
WTH?! I need to stop reading!!!
BlackBerryJuice replied to ybnormal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'd never get DS or RNY....no one's touching my intestines! The small bowel is a very complicated structure and we still don't fully understand how it works, and nutrient absorption and electrolyte balance is the LAST thing I want anyone to mess with. People can live without a stomach and without their colon, but they can't live without their small bowel. I'd never get an elective procedure that messes up with my small bowel - just like I'd never get an elective procedure on my heart or brain - these organs are just too important to treat them nonchalantly. -
Bfast: 1) pre-workout - Zone bar, half a cup of Bolthouse berry smoothie 2) post-workout - Protein shake Lunch: half a large chai (made with sugar) and a bit of chicken masala dhosa Snack: destroying an entire pineapple throughout the day....this warm (somewhat!) weather is making me crave fruit all the time! Also a large coffee with cream at some point Dinner: homemade Vietnamese salad rolls (will post recipe) Snack: Protein Shake with milk at some point Workout: 1-hr bootcamp, also walked a good 2 miles already

Don't do the frequent NSAID thing, it could give you an ulcer and make things worse. But do see if steroids could help, they are used for some types of esophagitis. -

Is. Dr. Aceves really THAT great?
BlackBerryJuice replied to Roudoudou's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I've never had surgery before, so I can't compare my experience with him to anything else, but I was pleased overall - no complaints at all. He fit the bill in several ways: 1) I wanted someone who's had a LOT of reviews on this board. Surgery is easy until something goes wrong, so if you've only seen 3 or 4 positive reviews about a surgeon, it doesn't give you that much information. 2) I wanted someone who didn't have a SINGLE negative review (I searched like 2 years back on the forum) 3) I wanted someone who ONLY does bariatrics 4) I wanted someone who's had North American training and credentials 5) I wanted to be operated on in a hospital, not a clinic, in case something went terribly wrong 6) I didn't want an assembly line surgeon who operates on 6+ people a day A big selling point for me was that one of his staffers (Dr. Campos) had the VSG from Dr. Aceves - that shows that someone who's intimately familiar with the man himself and his work trusts him enough to operate on themselves. -
I went from 38DD to 34D. They are kinda flat, but still look nice in a push-up bra!
