Hormone Grehlin Also Responsible For Memory?
BlackBerryJuice replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I fretted over this for a bit because in my field, I can't afford to have a poor memory, either. Has not been an issue, thankfully. I mean, it's not like I've done some sort of standardized test before and after the surgery where I could objectively compare the results, but looking at my marks/job performance and just remembering day-to-day stuff, I don't feel like my memory has gotten worse at all. -
Too Hot To Trot?
BlackBerryJuice replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm the only chick at my gym who's always cruisin' around in her sports bra. Well, not always, but if I'm overheating, I have no qualms taking my shirt off. Granted, I lived in the US for a long time and I've found that Canadians are a lot more uptight about this sort of stuff. But I figure, if half the dudes are dropping their shirts, why can't I? -
Help With Lack Of Energy For Soccer And Hard Exercise
BlackBerryJuice replied to GonnaLoseIt's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Have slow carbs as your last pre-workout meal (e.g. steel-cut oats) and drink juice or Gatorade during the game. Any time you are working for longer than an hour, you should be taking in some extra calories; drinking them would be easiest, naturally. -
College Students
BlackBerryJuice replied to MSVEEKAYWHY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't think it was too bad. If anything, we have more flexible schedules than a lot of people with full-time jobs, so while the total hours may be over 40/week, it's nice to have frequent breaks to hit the gym, have a snack, or cook. -
I Threw Cake In The Garbage!
BlackBerryJuice replied to Foxbins's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Good for you! I went through my pantry today and threw out quite a few unhealthy things. Post-sleeve, I throw out anything unhealthy that doesn't taste absolutely amazing. I don't want to spend calories on crap anymore. I kept the amazing peanut butter chocolates with Himalayan pink salt, but a whole bunch of licorice, old Cadbury fingers, and cake went in the garbage because they didn't pass the "amazing" standard. -

Here you go: http://www.fitocracy.com/profile/BlackBerryJuice/ The tough part will be remembering to track it all - I already track my stuff on a Crossfit website every day. -
Surgery? Overall Summary. Yes Or No?
BlackBerryJuice replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow, I didn't know you did that! Care to post about your experience? Just curious to know what that'd be like. -
"Pull-ups, vigorous." As opposed to what, "pull-ups, leisurely"? Is there any other kind of pull-ups besides "vigorous"?

Just joined! Still getting the hang of it, it's giving me all these weird points and levels, I am not entirely sure what to make of it. -
Ahhhhh Candy!
BlackBerryJuice replied to fluffylibra30's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I tried a few flavors before and didn't care for them, but yesterday my boyfriend got the Peanut Butter ones and they are REALLY good! I'll be stocking up on Easter candy once it goes on sale. I have some coupons for the big bags of Cadbury mini eggs and I'm pondering buying the bags and portioning the contents into Ziploc bags so I don't get carried away with them. -
A Sushi Nightmare,lesson Learned :(
BlackBerryJuice replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in Food and Nutrition
Sashimi is fine, you won't have any trouble with it. It's soft and goes down easier than any cooked meats. -

Wow, that's a great time! Even on a totally flat surface, let alone hiking uphill on a rough trail! -
A Sushi Nightmare,lesson Learned :(
BlackBerryJuice replied to Liliana Arleen's topic in Food and Nutrition
I eat sushi quite often. I prefer nigiri, though. I will usually cut half of the rice off - it still tastes good, but then it leaves me more room for fish. With rolls, it's definitely a challenge. For your average small California rolls, I can eat 5 at most; honestly, 4 is plenty. For these giant rolls, 2 is all I can eat. My favorite order is chirashi - assorted sashimi on a bed of rice. It's cheap per ounce of fish and I get to control the quantity of rice - honestly, a pinch is all you need. -
Need Voices Of Experience- Obsessing Over Mfp
BlackBerryJuice replied to Dooter's topic in Food and Nutrition
I don't log my meals on a regular basis; maybe once or twice a month at most. I found it more helpful early on, mostly because I'd think I was eating tons and then when I logged things, it'd end up being like 900 calories, so then I'd know I needed to eat more. Otherwise, these days it just makes me obsess with food. I also start figuring out how much junk I can get away with before my calorie count goes too high, and then I end up eating treats that I may not have even wanted that much in the first place, just because I know I can get away with it. Bad idea! -

Has Anyone Lost To Much Weight Or Cant Stop Losing Weight After Hitting There Goal?
BlackBerryJuice replied to Lucky Lady 702's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember worrying about this after I got my sleeve. The lowest weight I ever hit was 136 lbs and all of sudden I became VERY hungry and unable to control myself. But as soon as I let my weight climb 2-3 lbs, the hunger decreased. Whenever I tried to get down to 136 again, I would get ridiculously hungry again. I found it impossible to get below that weight. Yet I have no trouble maintaining in the low 140s (I've put on some muscle since, so I actually have a lower bodyfat % at 141 than I did at 136). I'm big-boned and I found that when I weighed less, I was quite bony, whereas with a few extra pounds of muscle, I look much healthier. -
Class Of 2010 Where Are You? And How Ya Doing?
BlackBerryJuice replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How did I miss this? Anyway, Aug. 2010 here and doing great. I had a funny moment today - I posted a picture of a cake I ate (without saying I only ate 1/4 of the slice!) on Facebook and a friend from the gym was like, "OMG, how do you eat all this stuff and stay so cut?" I just said, "I eat whatever I want....just in small amounts." People are jealous and it feels kinda good! -
Exercising With An Artificial Knee
BlackBerryJuice replied to Knee2010's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Honestly, I think you should see a physiotherapist or kinesiologist, as you have a unique situation and none of us are professionals who know the consequences of doing something with an artificial knee. That said, you could still lift upper body weights - you'd just have to use machines and benches. You can still do bench presses, chest flyes, seated bicep curls, tricep extensions, etc without standing. -
Week 5, day 1! Did well. I peeked at week 6, though, and I'm a little apprehensive. 8 minutes of jogging in a row is a LONG time. Mind you, I've done it before, but it was usually in a race setting, where there's more pressure and there are other people about to outrun you. It's different when you are alone and just training! I'm taking things a bit slower, since I can't seem to find time to run more than 2x a week - I try to make it to Crossfit at least 4, ideally 5 days a week, and I take 1 rest day a week. I should be done right about my 5K date (end of May).
