A Little Unclear
BlackBerryJuice replied to trudad's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everybody has different diets, it sounds like yours is one extreme, whereas the 1 month of liquids is the other. Most of us here were on a post-op diet that was either 7 or 10 days of clear liquids followed by 7 or 10 days of full liquids and then 7-10 days of mushies, and then free-for-all after that. -

It's Time For Your Flame Free Friday Confession!
BlackBerryJuice replied to Lilee84's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't stress about it. While there's no way you'll gain 2 lbs of muscle in 2 weeks, I do find that heavy weights seem to bump up my weight by a pound or two, whereas, say, running makes me drop the same amount overnight. It must be water weight and I guess weightlifting does something to make your muscles retain more water - maybe to help them heal after injury or something. It's just a pattern I've become quite aware of recently as I added running to my regimen. On days I skip Crossfit and run instead, I'm always 1-2 lbs lighter the next day, and once I do Crossfit that same day, the morning after the 1-2 lbs are back. -
Do you take NSAIDs at all? Most common cause.

Trust me, I went through the same thing! I think 90% of us do!

Strange Stomach Noises?
BlackBerryJuice replied to jenn298's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm, I can't be too precise, but I'd say like 6 months post-op, it was definitely all gone. It was definitely worst in the first 3 months. -
Apparently My Body Can't Live Without Carbs
BlackBerryJuice replied to minaleigh's topic in Food and Nutrition
I never counted carbs. I remember I tried to do Atkins years ago, before I had the sleeve - I spent all week on edge and ready to rip out people's throats, then found I GAINED a pound. Screw carb counting! -
Wise And Successful Sleevers Please Give Me Your Input
BlackBerryJuice replied to windycitymom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't cook an awful lot, either, maybe 2-3 meals a week. I'm pretty diligent about breakfast, though - I whip up something quick like oatmeal with protein powder and peanut butter/raisins, or make a whole bunch of oat pancakes with blueberries ahead of time and just heat them up. Otherwise, we eat out a lot, so I'm always packing leftovers. Even sushi and sashimi is fine the next day - I just put the leftovers in an airtight container and stick an ice pack in the bag in the morning, I just make sure to eat it no later than lunchtime the next day. I try to make healthier choices when we eat out. For example, tonight I opted for grilled fish tacos with dressing on the side - so it was mostly lean protein, veggies, and a corn tortilla with like a teaspoon of mayo-based dressing. Not unhealthy at all, IMO! And now I have another taco left over for lunch tomorrow. I also pack healthy snacks to have throughout the day - I like fruit, veggies such as baby carrots and edamame, and Oikos single-serving yogurts. When all else fails, there are always protein bars, although I try not to eat them too often. -
In 20 mins = 9 200 m sprints, 50 14-lbs wall balls, 40 20" box jumps, 50 95-lb deadlifts, and 25 burpees...not bad

Numbness In Right Leg And Right Hand
BlackBerryJuice replied to betterthanbefore's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Could be from vitamin B deficiency or diabetes. There's a pretty massive list of possible diagnoses, this is really something for a Dr to investigate, as you'd need lab work. -
Strange Stomach Noises?
BlackBerryJuice replied to jenn298's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, mine would make ridiculously loud, prolonged, high-pitched noises. I'd have to bend forward and put my arms over it so that the other end of the lecture hall couldn't hear it - otherwise you could honestly hear it from 100 ft if it was quiet! It's calmed down since, thankfully. -
Vocal Problems After Surgery? Any Other Singers Out There?
BlackBerryJuice replied to CodenameSpivey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LOL @ "chime in" There are 2 things that could've happened: 1) Reflux damage to your vocal cords. 2) Minor damage to your vocal cords during intubation. If the first issue is not the case, you may pursue this further if you desire. -
Just to make sure I understand this correctly, it sounds like you are wondering if these new acquaintances would've bothered to get to know you back when you were big? If so, I can totally relate, although more in the context of male attention. It's weird for me to notice guys checking me out a fair bit, and I certainly went through a period where I wanted to say, "where the hell were you 70 pounds ago?!" because odds are, that same guy wouldn't have given me the light of day.

Yes, if you read closely, the reflux and increase in weight follow very closely. Being overweight is a big risk factor for GERD, so this totally makes sense.

Met Someone Who Gained Back Half Their Weight After Vsg
BlackBerryJuice replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can totally regain weight with the sleeve, although the pace would be slower than if you had a normal stomach. Exercise regularly, plan meals, always have healthy Snacks available. And generally, have some sort of game plan that you can adhere to - for example, you will only eat out 3x a week OR you will not have dessert more than 2x a week, etc. -
Met Someone Who Gained Back Half Their Weight After Vsg
BlackBerryJuice replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
50 lbs is an awful lot of weight - even though it might not seem like that to someone who lost 100+ or 200+. She'd be back to being obese at that point. I could never get down to a reasonable weight when I was 50 lbs above my current weight, either. So tbh, I think you are kind of screwed if you get to that point. I don't let my weight go up more than 2 lbs. The second the scale hits 144, it's no more Desserts, booze, and healthier choices when eating out. The more weight you put on, the harder it is to take it off. It's totally possible -

Coffee .... Back To That Again
BlackBerryJuice replied to yecats's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think half and half is fine in moderation. I definitely wouldn't be drinking 5 cups of coffee with half-and-half every day, though, but if you are only drinking 1 or 2 cups, it's not that bad. Just watch how much you are pouring in - maybe use a 1/8 or 1/4 measuring cup. -
They are going to be red or dark - depending on your skin tone - for the first few months, and then they'll fade. The only scar that's still visible to the untrained eye is the drain scar, but that's gotten a lot less noticeable over time. Here's a pic of my stomach from just a few weeks ago - try finding 5 scars! http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/gallery/image/7423-frontpose/
