I was 49 years old, my son wanted to take me flying in the Cessna. I felt like a beached whale trying to climb up on the wing. I love to fly. Do you know how embarrassing it felt to have to tell him my weight so he could do all the preflight calculations? I knew then that things had to change. I had to change. I went to a seminar along with my husband. I was never overweight in high school. Once married and out in the "real" world, I put on 20 lbs almost yearly. I lost the weight after my son was born, but despite trying every diet (almost) in the book, I regained the weight. I gained 70 lbs during my 2nd pregnancy, and never lost an ounce after my daughter was born. My weight continued to escalate until that fateful day on the wing.I went to the nutritionist after the seminar. I thought "What can she tell me, I'm a nurse? I know what I should be eating."  I saw the required psychiatrist, who confirmed that I was not crazy :-}. But the psychiatrist gave me the best advice ever... not to picture me at my goal weight, but to picture me doing something I couldn't do anymore. I picture myself climbing in that plane without any hesitation, no joint pains, and no beached whale! And I would no longer be embarrassed to tell my son what I weighed. I continue to picture that along with many other wonderful activities with both children.I am 6 months out, 44 lbs shed and continuing. I'm exercising routinely, and I am feeling much better. The joint pain has already improved. There has been no change in my fibromyalgia yet, but I realize there may not be any. I am not tired all the time now. It is a great day.
