I'm trying to appeal to BCBS of Oklahoma for the lap band & am interested in BCBS's coverage of it in other states...anybody out there know???

I was also self-pay, & went to Dr. Nelson of Oklahoma Weight Loss Options in OKC. I paid about 17,500....but it was totally worth it & the office staff rocks!! How much is it supposed to cost in Denver?? Also, just so you know, whenever you need fills or have rechecks, Denver is a long drive, & I know for a fact that Surgical Associates won't fill your band unless they did the surgery on you! I'm not sure about Dr. Gorospe...they might do fills...good luck!

Thanks for the info, I'll see you there on the 2nd! I was banded on 2-21-07 in OKC by Dr. Nelson...I've lost 50lbs so far...only 100 more to go!!! Was your experience with Dr. Gorospe a good one?? I was going to have him do mine but had problems with his staff...

Hey there, I'm from tulsa also but got my band in OKC...I need a support group here because it's totally inconvenient to drive all the way there for a one hour meeting, if you know what I mean. Anyway, I'd love to come to the meeting at Barnes & Noble, but could you tell me which one?? Thanks so much & maybe I'll be seein' ya!

I had the band "installed" on 2/21 & I keep breaking out in this weird rash...it's like raised waves that itch really bad...it comes up in one spot for a couple of hours and then moves to another spot. I've really had a hard time recovering from surgery & now I'm concerned that I might be allergic to the band! Does anyone out there know of someone who was allergic to it?? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts....thanks!:help:

getting banded in Feb?
kindredspirit replied to timeforchange's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm getting banded on the 21st and thought I was holding up pretty well as my 10 day diet date approaches (starts sunday)...then I heard the song "dust in the wind" by Kansas on the radio and it launched me into a complete frenzy! I started thinking about everything that had to be taken care of prior to surgery...clean house, pay all bills and teach husband how to handle finances...make sure he knows cremation not burial...do they burn you with clothes on or not? 'cause I'd like to chose an outfit if they do...write letters to my son, or everybody for that matter!! I had to pull over and call the Dr.'s office to see if there was some free sample of Xanax that was left out of my orientation packet--there wasn't. Mark, a great nurse at OWLO calmed me down and reassured me the best he could...said they have not lost a bandster yet....but that makes me feel like they're probably due to lose one and it's gonna be me! I'm trying to stay positive but the truth is that it's been a long time since I've done anything for myself and I'm still trying to think about everybody else...ok I'll stop for now. :violin: -
I'm 29 and getting my band on 2-21-07 & I'm nervous too!! Whenever I start feeling scared I just think about how many new things I'll be able to do soon. I think about how many pounds I will have lost by next christmas, spring, and so on...that gets me excited again!! To me nothing is more scary than living the rest of my life this big and unhealthy, so I say bring it on!! Good luck with your surgery and congratulations on doing something positive for yourself!!
