    Newbee, seeking lots of info

    K. Thanks for the info! Trying to get all the information I can. I'm on Weight Watcher's now. Hoping for the best! I'm assuming I'll probably be in the same boat with the liver needing shrinking.
  2. I'm new to the lapband process, don't even have my surgery date, but I want to obtain as much information about the before and after as possible. I'm really anxious about making sure I'm committed to the lifestyle change. I'm more worried about food getting stuck than anything else. A little worried about adjustments making my band too tight. This site has already provided so much information and insight. I look foward to learning more. I'll continue to post and update my journey. Thanks for the support Lapbanders!!!

    First Consult done today

I had my original consult on 6/30. The initial information session was in a group, but I was told that beforehand. I did feel that my wait was a little lengthy, but I went with someone, so I had company. After waiting in the waiting room we went to a conference (group of about 15) and the doctor talked with us about our bariatric options. We then waited as she took us back individually to answer any questions we had. We were able to leave after our one-on-one consultation. So it was fine if you were one of the first called back, a little lengthy if you were second to last (as I was!) I also have Anthem. From what I understand they are paying for everything except for the co-pay. My doctor is in-network. It's actually through the St.Vincent Bariatric Center of Excellence. Thus far, I'm satisfied. We will see... Best of luck to you!!! Look forward to hearing more of your journey.

Hello, I was wondering based off of your starting weight did your doctor suggest that you lose some weight before the surgery? I'm at 304 and I'm thinking this might be the case? If so, did you have to do a liquid diet? Thanks for the support!

    Newbee, seeking lots of info

Great news for me!! My psychologist called last Thursday (I was on a cancellation list) and was able to see me on Friday (7/9). So I'm one step closer to getting my band. I have to get approved by insurance (fingers crossed). After that on to meeting with a dietician and nutritionist. Really siked that this process is underway. My goal is really to lose weight before the surgery. I feel the doctor is going to ask me to do that anyway.

Thanks for the support. You hear so many different things. Everyone's experience is different. I guess I've decided to have the surgery regardless of the risks anyway. My trouble now is getting in sooner than Sept 11 to see a psychologists! Guess I'll continue to work on trying to shed pounds for my surgery while I wait...
  7. Glad to hear the surgery went well and that you are doing okay, minus the bloating.... I heard that goes away with time. Some people said they had gas real bad as well. I haven't heard anyone complain of the dreaded left shoulder pain that I heard about previously. Did you have any shoulder pain after surgery? Are you taking meds for pain? What have you been able to take in (eat, drink) so far? Did your doctor tell you that you can't take anything for the gas/bloating? Can you actually feel the band or port? Or just the incisions right now? Wishing you the best in your recovery. Please keep us posted.
  8. How did it go guys??? Any words of wisdom????
  9. Hello!! I'm fairly new to the site. I'm actually scheduled to have my first consultation on 6/30. I too am afraid that I might be one of those that fail or the band might erode or slip. I keep telling myself that while complications my occur, living life like this is so much more complicated. I just got back from my GP and was told that I am now a whopping 301!!! I was in shock for a while (why I avoid scales) and wasn't aware of how far gone I was... I'm so excited and inspired, inspite of the complications, that this surgery will help me lead a happy, healthy, and more fulfilled life. I must admit my main concern is the change in diet, as in how to eat what I want, eat healthy, and eat slow enough that I don't cause myself to vomit. Please continue to post and let us know how your surgery and post op journey goes. Best wishes in your upcoming surgery!
