It took me 5 years to finally get my band!! Every time I was close to getting approve by my insurance, something would happen and I would have to change jobs, then the new job wouldn't cover it at all. So I finally found a great job as an RN at Scottsdale Healthcare. Luckily, we had one of the best bypass/band doctors around! And one of the best and most thorough plans I have ever seen (and I've seen alot!). It was pretty easy dealing with Scottsdale's insurance, since they fund their own, not like a third party like BCBS. I chose the band because I have seen devastating results from the bypass. I am an ICU/PACU nurse and used to work in recovery for another hospital who did ALOT of bypasses. What I saw scared the living hell out of me. Soooo many patients were coming back for redos, leaks, strictures, etc. So, I did my research and decided on the band. My mom died at 51 years old from Congestive Heart Failure and COPD, she was 5'2 and weighed close to 450. All the females on her side of the family are big. I didn't want to rely on just diets, they fail anyway. I wanted a little insurance for the future. I was 330lbs when I went in on July 16th 2008, today I am 231lbs.
