Can Not Getting Enough Protein In Diet, Lead To No Weight Loss??
newme0617 replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I emailed the nutritionist and she said that right now, the not getting to a certain level of Protein is not a big deal, as it will be moving forward...she said OK to the protein shots.. I am not waiting solids...I am full liquids...I try....but just getting maybe 500-700 calories... I dieted once before and lost130 pounds and I know that doing 800 calories a day made me feel awful at times. So how am I to be able to excerise and be active on 700 calories a day? Just having a "duh" moment.... I think I will email her back and ask about calorie count I should be trying to get in Thanks -

Healing Of Incisions At Two Weeks What To Expect
newme0617 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two weeks on 5-3. My incisions are a bit weird looking....the doctor said that he stitched the layer beneath the skin and applied adhesive on top, now the adhesive is peeling away. Some of the incisions are small and the adhesive is almost gone. the longer incision is a bit more pronounced and it looks like the layer underneath is healing but the skin edges have not come together...has anyone else had the incisions looking this way? Also having a pulling and pinching sensation near the port...I lean over and OUCH...is this common? Thanks -

Hello, I am ten days after surgery...I am having great difficulty doing Protein shakes.. I have tried Boost Walgreen strawberry Protein shake, this one has 23 grs of protein per bottel and 110 calories I am looking for a shake I can finish..I cannot seem to get thru half of bottle due to taste. Is there a shake out there that has a flavor and not the after taste I am experiencing.? I am just not getting my protein in due to the problem with the shakes I am having.. Any shake that you have found that gives you the ability to finish? Thanks

I am also sore still(banded on the 18th)...bending over seems to be the worst right now...the port is stitched to the abdominal muscle and when I bend over it can be very painful...it only had to happen to me once for me to be careful when bending over. I am still seeing brusing on my abdomen also...I had the port area is the slowest to heal and not be painful
-
I too was banded on the 18th. I have lost 10 pounds since surgery..i amnot getting in the protein shakes. I in fact gained from yesterday...I did walk yesterday and I am thinking it is all about not looking at daily numbers, but overall numbers...I gained 6 pounds overnight over surgery(due to IVS and swelling)...I also have added soups(creamy), mashed potatoes, etc. Losing any weight is a GAIN....hang in there....
-
I had that same issue.....I am burping again....do not know why I could not for a few days
-
I am full almost all the time...I have been "full" before and still ate and ate...this time around...I do not know if it is the fear of eating too much and feeling the wreath of Mr. Lap Band or what...I am not even had a fill and the lap band was left unfilled at surgery...while in one hand i am so grateful, but the next thought is what will happen if I cannot get in the calories...I cannot seem to get the shakes down in quantity needed...anyone else feel this way?

Port Pain After 6 Months Of Being Banded
newme0617 replied to mztmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My port is between my breat bone and lower abdomen...so mid abdmen. it is on the right side...I thought this pinching and pulling would go away with time... I cannot "feel" the port... -
I had no staples, I had stitches inside, then outside there was super glue(liquid adhesive)..LOL...I am ten days out. I have been reading all the posts I did not post much until the past day... I had all the gas, chest, shoulder, back, head pain.....the area around the port is sooo tender still....when I bend over, the port site is pulling and catching in the port area. I was told that the port is stitched to the abdomen muscles and the pulling and catching is the result of the abd muscles healing around the port. I have taken one percoset...that was on the day I left the hospital(I stayed overnight) I had a Q pump and that helped for three days after I came home. Right now I am fighting to get the required daily protein in....I find I have not found that protein shake that i can do the whole bottle..I am trying...but failing at that... I was not filled at time of surgery..will be filled May 18th...scared a bit as without the fill, I cannot eat much..I get discomfort to pain when I do eat...I am sure that is why they want us to go the protein shakes.. I have lost 14 pounds since April 18th, so that is good.. Best of Luck to all Marlene

I lost 130 pounds on my own back in 1996...went from 254 to 124 and stayed there for ten + years. Started the weight gain back in 2009. I know I needed help this time. LAst time I did 800-1000 calories a day, did not watch Protein intake...but then again did not have surgery... I was only on a Protein shake pre op for 3 days..then surgery.... i want to get the protein in, I am going to say that l need to get more protein, but the shakes for me are hard to take... One day at a time... I have found other protein sources of course, but have to wait till i can eat them..
-
Thanks for the suggestions...what about placing the shake in the freezer and then take it out frozen and spoon it down?
-
That is so interesting...I was told ONLY Protein shakes post op for two weeks...so here I am trying so hard and failing to do the three per day...I cannot even get thru a bottle..I have been trying to get it other ways... Like cottage cheese, oatmeal, yougurt, etc...but these add up in calories when trying to get the protein in...so like a catch -22...I am keeping a food journal and have been able to keep the calories down,, but the protein is suffering, greatly... I do not want complications... Right now, I have a shake sitting next to me...trying to finish as a breakfast food... The shakes also make me thirsty...weird or not? Thanks for your response

Band Filled Or Not Filled At Time Of Surgery
newme0617 replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As I have stated, I have no fill in my band. Today, I ate some grits(instant) and had major back, head, chest and abd pain. I waited about 2 hours and it got better. I decided to have some yogurt, one spoonful and I again had the symptoms. I also took a sip of Water to get down a pain pill, same pain...is this normal on a no fill lap band one week out? Yesterday I had no issues with eating at all..and I had grits for Breakfast also Thanks -

Band Filled Or Not Filled At Time Of Surgery
newme0617 replied to newme0617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also scheduled to have a fill in 30 days(well 20 days now)...Doc did not fill mine at time of surgery....I am getting able to eat food that if I was filled would be an issue... need to stay under the 1000 calorie mark...so far so good.. Lost 10 pounds so far in 8 days... I gained 6 pounds after surgery...but lost that, thinking it was swelling and the IV fluids.. So if we say that weight and I have lost 16 pounds.. I will take it either way... -
Hello, I was banded one week ago. I am having a pulling pain at the port site. I cannot get comfortable.Has anyone else had this type of pain..I move the wrong way and it feels as if there is a pulling and "catching" in the area. Is this normal? Thanks
