I've been obese my entire life. Although I'm only 24 years old, I remember going on Weight Watchers when I was 10 years old. Even as a child I never fit into regular clothes. It's been diet ups and downs since I was 10 years old. I went on a low-carb diet in 2004 before my high school graduation, and I lost 63lbs. However, as a gradution present I went to Italy for 18 days and started to eat massive amounts of carbs. I gained almost all of my weight back before the end of that year. My sister had gastric bypass surgery in 2005 and lost over 140lbs. She has gained most of her weight back, and was a little mentally crazy. My parents didn't want me to have any type of weight loss surgery because of what happened with my sister, but I made my decision in November of 2009 and I wasn't going to change my mind! It was a long process, with a 6 month medically supervised diet, travelling to UCLA and Orange County (about 1hour plus drives), and many tests so that I could get approved by my insurance. In fact, I only knew 4 days before my planned surgery that I was approved. I finally had surgery Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 10:30am. I was Dr. Liu's only patient that day, and he said since I'm young I'll be fast and heal up nicely. He was done in about 30 minutes. I am still sore from the incisions, but a few days of pain for a lifetime of freedom from my weight is definitely worth it!
